Battlefield 1942 Status Report

EA's Battlefield 1942 Website has a new update thanking those who are playing their World War II shooter for making their launch successful, going on to outline outstanding issues and their to do list of what they are working on. Here's most of the post:

To Do List Update
For those of you who have shared your thoughts on where we need to go next with BF1942... keep 'em coming. While we can't answer everyone's feedback personally, we are taking notes. As it stands our "To Do" list is pretty big.

At the top of the list:
- Linux Server
- 1.2 Patch
- Map Editor
- Mod Tools

We also have some updated information about the top list items. The Linux Server is currently going through the debug process and we're working hard to get it out as soon as possible. The 1.2 patch will address many of the issues which have been brought up on the forums and boards concerning bandwidth optimization, client prediction tweaking and general stability (sorry, Digger, we're not going to add a grappling hook!) The patch will also deliver the highly anticipated Map Editor. As for other mod tools, we're looking at what it would take to modify the existing dev tools for the mod-community. Stay tuned for more updates.

The copy protection is pathetic. The CD Key Serial should be enough anti-piracy protection IMO. Quake 3, Half Life, RTCW etc.. dont require the CD at all to play online because you need a unique serial to play.

It just annoys the piss out of me when I refresh a server in ASE and it says 30/32 players so you join it only for BF1942 to take a minute to load up because it scans both CD Drives for the game cd, checks its original, and then starts to load the game. By the time I get in to the server its bloody full!

And I aint using the in game browser because the menu is locked to 60hz which would make my eyes bleed after a minute on this 21 inch monitor. Its damned painful just setting the keys up.
