Umm...I think that I will pass.
I have never been a fan of the energy/caffeine drinks because of how terrible they taste. I never liked the taste of things like Red Bull and even something like Mountain Dew I am sure is urine in a bottle. I will try Bawls if/whenever I see it, but I am not expecting much...
My "crack" drink of choice is, strangely enough, Lipton bottled iced tea, the sweetened variety. Otherwise, there is nothing like a good Jamba Juice orange juice.
Keeping things simple :), Ray

Yeah, that's actually a whole book. It's really interesting. He meanders through a bunch of different subjects related to hive intelligence. Interesting guy.

Wow... that's the best straight up OOTB in a while... (not that I was complaining before) Complete with Blue getting better access to Bawls, being the influential Gaming God (TM) that we've known he was since the good ol' days of the rag, and not discussing Dogs/relatives/yardwork/Peoplebitching ... Yeeha!
Thanks Blue. I needed that.

I think the shareholders ought to be the ones who vote on which prison their former ceo goes to. I can't think of a better way to make the bastards behave themselves.

I got used to drinking Diet Coke 12 years ago while on a competitive "diet challenge" and even now regular Coke tastes like syrup to me. Good thing too since I pretty much drink nothing else - except for Miller High Life (which has also had the "need to vomit" effect on me, but that was a volume issue).

I can not stand diet coke or any other item with the name diet in front of it (meaning sugar-substitute). I get intense headaches, and generally feel the need to vomit. But for some reason penguin mints do not have this effect on me.
They're great company while warming up before a match, or even to keep alert during a lab. My favorite combo (I call it the "super-slam") is 3Penguin cinnamons; 1Penguin peppermint; and 3 peppermint warp mints. Not only do you yearn for the "soothing” burn of listerine, you become a fraging powerhouse
In the spirit of caffeine I came across this: http://www.thinkgeek.com/stuff/caffeine/5a65.shtml . Wow! Caffeinated shower soap

"the stuff tastes great"
Damn straight. I've had Amped, Adrenaline (Sobe's drink) and Red Bull - I think they're all crap compared to Bawls. A friend and I downed a Red Bull and an Amped each on the drive to a LAN party. Our thots: "Red Bull tastes like cough syrup. Amped tastes like flat, syrupy Mt. Dew. Yuck!"
Having Bawls at CompUSA would be one of the most fantastic things to happen to my gaming life. I will not have to settle for lesser drinks any longer. Is there any way I can write CompUSA and tell them to bring that shit to Minnesota!? Maybe it's already there. I will have to check this weekend.
Perhaps it is there.. and just in time for UT. Everything is coming together.

Is that similar to nutrasweet? No, Nutrisweet is Aspartame, truly nasty stuff, which, among other things, forms formaldehyde (which is toxic) when stored at warm temperatures. There is good reason to think that this is the most unhealthy of all the artificial sweeteners that people use... In fact, there are many adherents to the theory that Aspartame is the root cause of "Gulf War Syndrome."
Sorbitol, on the other hand, is natural product, the alcohol form of sucrose. But it is indigestible, hence its use as a low-calorie substitute for actual sugar. It has a couple of health concerns associated with it, including associations with irritable bowel syndrome, but also helps fight (not just prevent) tooth decay, is thought to reduce the risk of ear infections in children (something that almost cost me my own hearing as a child), and is considered less of an immuno-suppressant than "real" sugar.
In fact, there is good reason to believe it is less bad for people to consume than sugar is.
Trouble is, I can't stand the stuff.

The stuff doesn't just contain Sorbitol, it is Sorbitol Is that similar to nutrasweet? That stuff is migraine in a bottle/pill whatever for me. I get all out, mind blowing, nearly go blind headaches from that stuff. Nothing worse than eating/drinking something unaware that it is in it. OUCH!
edit - nope, not the same stuff. I should look before I post.

Regarding highly-caffeinated stuff:
One thing that is not usually apparent from stories about Bawls is that the stuff tastes great (I mentioned this to the lady from The Post, but it was not included). Sort of like bananas, but not exactly... if it were only about the kick, you could dissolve no-doze in Dr. Pepper.
Which brings us to Red Bull... I've grown accustomed to it from trying it a few times, but honestly, doesn't it taste a bit like carbonated cough syrup?
As for penguin mints... great in concept, poor in execution for those of us who can't stand artificial sweeteners (c'mon, not all geeks are fat). The stuff doesn't just contain Sorbitol, it is Sorbitol with some flavoring, and of course, caffeine. Blech.

Ray: you owe it to yourself to taste this stuff! They were selling truckloads (ok...well almost truckloads) of this stuff at quakecon, so I had to buy a case Wow! This is good stuff. You might just want to order a case from thinkgeek cause you're gonna have a lot of gaming coming up soon (hitman, nolf, UT) . Here is the link http://www.thinkgeek.com/stuff/caffeine/2818.shtml .
BTW: Has anyone here been hooked on penguin mints for the past 1.5 years like myself?

Don't leave the Lego harpsichord site without listening to the mp3. It's quite something, complete with more action noise than notes, and the instrument drifting out of tune within a few seconds. Marvellous.
