UT2003 Demo Definitely This Week (Maybe)

A post to the Infogrames Forums by Epic's Mark Rein has word on the UT2003 demo, saying it: "is nearly ready to go. It should be out sometime within the next few days. Keep watching this space (the stickies) for an announcement. When it's ready we'll just be releasing it randomly to a few major sites so that hopefully it will spread like wildfire and everyone will be able to get it from their favorite games site. There won't be any special exclusives or anything like that. We want everyone to be enjoying it the minute it goes live." Thanks MattyD. Meanwhile, Unreality has posted a brief chat log with Mark discussing this on IRC, talking about what still needs to be finished and what will be included. Finally, apparently realizing the dangers of making such an un-hedged statement, Mark made another post to the Infogrames Forums clarifying this is not all carved in stone:

I'm expecting the demo to be out sooner than 5 days but things have a way of cropping up and biting us in the ass so you never know. It could be as early as tomorrow or as late as the weekend but I'm pretty confident that it's this week.

So its evil if people have to face the consequences of their actions or inactions? As for WTC, it happened because the Quron tells its followers to lop off the heads of the infidels. They where just obeying their religion. But thats another topic.

From my memory, Stalin had sacked the Scooby Doo gang in '42 because the Brits had tortured them into becoming triple agents in late '41, leading to high losses of "Captain Caveman" assault troops at Stalingrad. It was this, suprisingly, that lead the the Millenium Falcan bieng used in a secret "Republican Cover-up" operation to extridite Martha Stewart from a prison camp deep in the Angola Jungle where none other than Julia Childs was torturing her for her secret recipes, all unknown to those "in the know" on Sesame Street.
Jump forward, and here is where the real conspiracy begins...you see, my "agents in the field" inform me that none other than Ronald Reagan was seen in Texas at a secret Rendevous point meeting with Milli Vanilli, lip-syncing the theme song to "dukes of Hazzard" while driving down the main thoroughfare in Waco, only to be under the secret surviallence of Deputy Dog and his posse.

Something is Afoot, I tell you, and it doesnt look pretty.

Sadly playful puppy, the double jump is still in. The double jump is terrible, you will see when you play it. Unfortunately, the double jump makes the player do flips and all kinds of fancy movement. Really, movement that should be done with something more complex than a simple double press of the jump button. Newbies are gonna be everywhere! x|

What if the Empire came over from the deathstar and took over Africa? What then Zamweasle? Would Luke Skywalker be able to stop Hitler from stealing the atomic ray gun from Ozzy ozborn? Would Gordan Freeman be able to get the milk away from the babies titts so they could eat M&Ms or would that defeat the purpose of Yoda's Nighthood. I think Duke Nukem would have to fly over in his Zero and bomb John Mullins before those Africans could partner up with the jawas. What I don't get is why the French and the British saw Scooby Doo in his van by the river after the KISS concert? Could that be because of the African Cobra Commander or did I just kill a kitty when I maturbated this morning? By the way... where is that silly UT2003 demo at?

It's impossible to exploit a country unless a lot of the population is helping with the exploitation. They are their own worst enemy.

"Africans could've have bounded together and kicked Britian out if they wanted to, just like America did. "

Ummm... comparing the American Revolution to resistance to British Colonialism over in Africa is pretty sketchy. LOTS of economic, political, technological, and cultural issues that made those two very different situations.

The point still remains that we shouldn't have fucking been there exploiting them in the first place.

And American's kicking the Britain's out? You're all British originally anyway.

But fuck it, this isn't the place to discuss this so I'm going to cut this short before we get flamez0red. Time to agree to disagree I think.

So it's the West fault eh? The people of Africa had nothing to do with the state their in today? Surely you don't believe that? Got them in debt, No my friend, the only thing that puts you in debt is yourself and personal greed.
Africans could've have bounded together and kicked Britian out if they wanted to, just like America did. But they didn't, they killed the one man that tried to do it,
Shaka Zulu. No matter what you think, people really are responsible for thier own actions and choices they make.
Africans made the wrong choices and didn't act when they should have.

if Mark Rein hadn't use the phrase "more than two weeks away" then this would end all the whining in the world...
but he didn't he had to entice this kiddies for more publicize..afterall that's what e3 is for right?

a better approach is to give no definite time period (don't use the word week/month/quarter)..just say it's out when it's done or simply say..

"NO!" --> then "GO!" ---> then "TELL!" -wordtoyamama

No, no it doesn't. They just didn't push for the same culture that the Western world did. They lived just fine that way for a long time. Just because it's not the same as our way of life doesn't make it wrong or mean it "stinks". And the fact of the matter is we have now exploited them and have got them into so much debt that they don't really stand a chance.

You can't call it their fault just because they chose a differnt, seemingly more primitive, way of life to the Western world. And you can't say we didn't fuck them up.

There is a poster on the wall to the right of my computer with the Cree Indian Prophecy on it, which says a lot about this kind of thing. The prophecy is "Only after the last tree has been cut down, only after the last river has been poisoned, only afer the last fish has been caught, only then will you find that money cannont be eaten." Basically, while we're all pushing for the great capitalist ideal the world is getting fucked and we are going to have to pay for it in time. The African's, Native Americans, and other "primitive" people haven't pushed for that kind of thing, and I'll wager they'll cope a damn sight better than us when the world's oil reserves run out. But hey, that won't matter seeing as good old GW is fucking up Alaska and trying to invade Iraq to get more oil for when that happens.

Thank you, and goodnight. I'm here all week.

88. This ISNT UT. Sep 11, 2002, 10:02 PlayfulPuppy

Okay, why do so many people seem to think that UT2003 should be UT with better graphics... and that's it?

Christ, if you want all the old stuff they had, GO PLAY UT.

Personally I'm looking forwards to all the new stuff like double-jumping and wall-jumping (Are these still in? I damn hope so, they sound like they'd be fun as hell!), new weapons and new twists on oldies.

I mean, seriously, do you people complain that the ripper wasn't in GTA3? That there wasn't domination in SOF2? Come on. If you want UT-style gameplay, play UT.

I'm looking forwards to this demo. But ONE model? Come on!! Give us at least 2! There had better be a nice variety of skins... I cant see the models being much more than 20 megs anyways... and personally 120-140 megs isn't that much of a stretch for anyone on cable. Who else thinks there should be more models?

Listen, listen closley, the people in Africa where put here at the same time as everyone else, sooner if your an evolutionist. The had the same amount of time to develop as the rest of the world. They didn't, so whose fault is that?
Their own. Please dont read this as a racial argument, it's all culture, Africa's culture stinks, that's the bottom line.

on topic and on off topic.

If you read any of the Q+As that mark rein does you'll know that he normally gets asked about 10 times when the demo's going to be out.

Recently they've been saying 'it's more than two weeks away, and we'll tell you when we see light at the end of the tunnel' and now we have that light at the end of the tunnel.

And people are whining about it and being skeptical. it isn't like they'd said it's out last monday and it wasn't. basically, when it's out, how long we've had to wait for it will become irrelevant. if it's good, it's good. end of story.

assualt i liked, but it wasn't popular and it got cut. i liked the ripper too. the unreal games have always tried new stuff out in each game, and the less popular stuff doesn't always make the cut. i'm just happy that mine and other peoples complaints about the goo gun was heard.

i guess enough people made a case for that.

but the upside is, we get new things to play like bombing run and double domination. and new weapons... so while some of their more 'out there' ideas aren't making repeat showings. we get new ones.

i mean the games a 3 gig install. throw in assualt and some maps... well you know what i mean right?

to tangent off to nestle and baby milk... what nestle did was to give free baby milk to the hospitals and encourage them to use it. so the new born babies were being bottle fed free milk.

but if a baby starts out bottle feeding it's hard to encourage them to breast feed. so the mothers had to buy nestle baby milk, couldn't always afford the powder *and* clean water and so some weren't using the cleanest water. and the babies weren't get passive immunity on things... so what was passes off as charitable (giving baby milk to hospitals) actually increased their revenue and led to an increase in child deaths. couldn't give you the figures, but making some more money over a few dead infants, however few, is inexcuseable.

what i *don't* know is if this still goes on. stories like this often outlast the practices. it might still be happening, it might not. but it *did* happen.

foxy

ps. got an editorial up about unlimited saves on 3D Action Planet today. I'd appreciate the usual whining and bickering in feedback
