Battlefield 1942 Gold (Really!) & Ship Date

Electronic Arts sends word that "Battlefield 1942 for the PC will ship Tuesday, September 10, 2002." Recalling the recent confusion over whether the game was actually gold (story) or not (story), I wrote back to inquire about this (which would be easy to assume from that ship date, but there's been enough confusion about this already), and received a confirmation that the game is indeed gold.

And don't start firing off at the mouth you idiots out there(you know who you are). This is a legit question. This game has issues with lag and netcode. I get dropped from servers that time out at least once an hour. and these servers are all under 250 ping. It's a serious blast to play when things are running smoothly. But then things turn into a slide show and you are fighting just to keep your plane in the air and level with the horizon. I am on a 1536 DSL connection. I would hate to try playing this game with 56k. Forget about it... I did pre-ordered the game because it has so much to do and is so open ended. I love the options. And I can play it half way through the night and suffer from lack of sleep all the next day... if I can just torpedo-bomb a few more carriers. Here's to hope. Hope the retail version is stable and not as lag prone.
