Since the final chapter in the saga of my battle with my huge backyard hole seems to be underway it seemed time to follow-up and (to borrow a pun from the project) fill you in on how this has progressed. After dumping something in the neighborhood of four tons of dirt in this hole (regrettably 50 lbs at a time) I had previously declared the hole a dip, thinking I would try and further even it off. After a few weeds started popping up here and there I subsequently declared it no longer a dip (sometimes these things just rely on perception), and dumped some peat moss across the top and seeded the mess. Now after a week or so of watering and occasionally succeeding in keeping the dog from trampling things, yesterday I noticed the first grass sprouts starting to show. The hole and I now have something in common too... I got a pretty radically close to the skull haircut last week, and the bitty nubs of hair on my head bear a striking resemblance to the bitty nubs of grass over the one-time hole. Probably not for long though, it's not like I have movie star thatch of hair to start with, so it may be pretty soon that I start contemplating how to put some of that grass seed on my head (Chia-Hair, wasn't that an SNL bit?).
