Counter-Strike Troubleshooting

The official Counter-Strike web site has a list of known issues that have been uncovered in the new version 1.5 patch for Half-Life Counter-Strike. They offer tips on overcoming a "Server verification failed" error, a "TrackerUI.dll invalid" problem, and an F1 and F2 binding problem.

Is there a reason that with every new HL release, that the engine as a whole becomes more unstable?

You think taking an almost bugless engine (Quake 1), and adding another 4 years of development that it would be totally bulletproof.
"

ACtually Software Engineering courses show that bugs in large software projects decrease up to a certain time, but eventually reach a point where there are still bugs, but any more work on the same code base, while it might fix some bugs, will actually add new bugs, decreasing the stability.

I started CS with version 1.4. I just never bother before, after hearing that cheating is rife in the game. I really hoped they could sort it out by now. It's really sad to see all the cheating still going on. 1.5 does not seem to prevent any as I can still see blatant wallhacking (people seeing through walls) going on while watching some people play in 1st person. Its a great game, just too bad the few people who create these cheats cant put their skills to better use. Anyway, just a thought. Roll on UT 2003.

there's this great invention called headphones. it allows you to hear things in the game like footsteps and reloading. you should pick some up.
oh and i played cs from beta1 up until beta7. i have tried each version since, for like an hour, but never found them worth my time.

You moron, HL was based on the Quake 2 engine.

sorry, but you are the moron. valve had been working on hl using the q1/qw engine for 2 years before they liscensed the q2 engine IN ADDITION to the q1 engine. almost everyone who has played q1, q2, and hl extensively can tell that, expecially before 1.1.0.0, the console commands are far more reminiscent of q1 than q2. also hl uses "bsp30" maps which is just an incrementation of q1's bsp29, where q2 uses like bsp36 or some such nonsense.
in the future, please try to know what you are talking about before you call someone a moron.

CS sucks. We all know it. End of story.

As for the thing about the Internet and a network being totally different, to the dickwad who posted that, the Internet IS a network. Geez. Whoever argues that fact spends too much time on AOL looking at goat porn.

And about HL being stable. Nuh-uh. Hell no. When I return to the menu, all the options disappear. When I alt-tab, and switch back to the game, it only works 50% of the time, and even then I have no sound. And when I have EAX enabled, my sound completely stops working when I go in water. And don't go on about my system being crappy or improperly set up. I've got the latest drivers, and on a brand-new Athlon XP 1900. So suck me you Intel bigots.

That's my two cents.

That's weird. Heh, are you sure you have it installed?

Maybe do a clean install of Half-Life and CS and use the full installers of CS and the HL update. Dunno why else it wouldn't be working.

This whole thread is an example of WHY i stopped playing CS. With the exception of a few intelligent ppl here, most of the drivel I've seen here is just another example of how utterly stupid ppl can get. It's always the few assholes that completely ruin stuff for everyone else that follows the rules, even if they aren't written down.

Okay. Go to your hl.exe app, and create a shortcut to it. Then right-click on it and go to properties. Then in the "Target:" field, at the end of:

D:\Games\Half-Life\hl.exe

Add this: -game cstrike -console -numericping

So it should look like this: D:\Games\Half-Life\hl.exe -game cstrike -console -numericping

(Of course, your directory to the hl.exe app will prolly be different from mine.)

Then hit the OK button and fire it up, that should do the trick.

(-game cstrike tells it to start the game using CS, -console tells it to enable the in-game console, and -numericping gives you actual numbers on the server browser for pings instead of just those useless green, yellow, and red bars.)

"Am I the only one here that is starting to think that Blue's should just switch over to slashcode, so that we get Slashdot-style moderation? The signal to crap ratio in the postings here as been decreasing exponentially lately."

Moderators don't improve content. They just act smug and erase whatever makes them get all red-faced and pouty. Then you have the annoying forum cliques to deal with. There's nothing more boring and vacuous than an internet forum clique.

In other words, all forums suck equally.
