"Great Game Mar 12, 12:31 anon@24.196 Don't listen to any of these posts....this game is frickin amazing, I have played cs since is came out as a beta mod and didn't think i would ever like a game like it again but this game blows my socks off..the gun sounds are amazing, you can actually tell what an ak sounds like, the graphics are good although I don't like lithtechs engine compared to q3 but it is definitely up to par and the gameplay itself blows cs out of the water on two accounts; strategy and selection - so if anyone is bitching it is because their computer sucks, their connection sucks or they suck GREAT JOB CRAVE and BARKING DOG"
Really? Buy the Retail Version, play against the AI, play some of the other levels, then Post a review.
Oh, and BTW, you CANNOT get your money back once you've bought it. Don't judge this game JUST on the Beta...trust me, you'll get screwed |

While I realize that there are a TON of weapons experts out there, it is a damn shame that none of them worked for Barking Dog. Very few of the weapons act as they would in real life. And we are talking about the Final as well as the "beta". If a gun in the real world is tight and can kill you with a head shot, then why can't it do it in Global Ops? Because this game is not realistic. you can find better accuracy and damage with the $300 pistol than you can with the M4 Carbine. Talk about messed up. |

GO |

I will have to agree that Cable modem upload speeds are normally fairly restrictive. I have one myself, and typically won't host a server for any game for more than 3 or 4 people, or it goes to crap. As far as the GO Beta goes - NOT impressed. The graphics are outdated, despite the size of the map. The models are relatively low-poly, and weapons seem cartoonish while you're holding them. I understand that a large portion of the connection problems were due to an overwhelming demand for the demo, but I was unable to connect to many dedicated servers with rather official names (not that that means anything). In fact, I was able to connect only to about one out of 20 to 30 servers. When I did connect to a server (four times, eventually), I could play for any amount of time from 10 minutes to about 15 seconds, and then my system would lock up hard. Had to be manually powered down and restarted. If I hadn't heard so many other people with this complaint, I wouldn't really put so much weight on it. Also, it's a gameplay decision, but I was very disappointed that it was not possible to start a game locally on my machine just to get the hang of the gameplay. Which, I might add, would have been VERY useful since the beta shipped with virtually no documenation. All four of those games I eventually got into had no (count 'em, zero) players who had any clue what they were supposed to be doing, or how, exactly, to go about achieving the goal. Admittedly, there was one of the four I'm not sure about, because it was the 15-seconds-then-lock example. I would hold out hope that the problems experienced in the beta would be highlighted for the development team to address, but it seems the term "Beta" wasn't exactly appropriate, since the game had already gone gold. (Duh.)
I will give Barking Dog (or whoever) credit for a number of gameplay decisions that I thought would work well, if only the game would run well enough for the user to experience them (even if many of them have been seen before in other titles). There you have it. My opinion. I know you wanted it. ;-p -ReverendTed (PlanetSoldier.com) |

I don't care how much you talk, you can't run a server on a cable modem that works good. That is dumb. Cable modems have crap for upload speed which really hurts client latency. Not to mention the part about SHARED BANDWIDTH. I'm happy YOU get good ping when YOU run servers on YOUR cable modem, but I have a hard time believing you can run a quake3 server for 12 players and not have lag be a problem.
DSL? Yes. Cable? OF COURSE NOT! |

GO server limits... |

Well one of the main problems with this game is the amount of bandwith that users take up. It appears that the network code is highly inefficient. As a result, I can only host about 4 people (on my cable modem) before the network performance becomes a serious problem. The FAQ states that this game needs a T1 or greater. IMO this is a serious limitation. With Q3 or CS I could host a game server (on my cable modem), and rely more on my hardware. I should be able to comfortably host games of 12 people, but I can't with GO. I can't help but think that the amount of GO servers will be pretty slim do to this inefficiency.
I'm not buying this until the net code is optimized. |

Well, I've played the Beta since the public release and I've hand no problems.
Just a few glitches here and there yet no major issues.
LAN play is ideal and super charged like a mofo!
Final product is going to be different I'm sure.... or at least pretty sure. |

The fact they released the Beta around the time they went Gold does not mean that both versions are the same. Even if they were, there will probably be a series of patches to install on the first day. This is probably not the best practise, but most games are this way now.
So I wouldn't freak out too much about beta performance. Wait and see, and monitor the message baords before buying (or warez it and test it out). |

The game seems to work pretty much okay on my machine, except for a couple of lock ups - and I'd expect that on even a late beta. Not easy to tell how bad the game is from frequency of lockups - that could be a hundred rare occurence problems or just the one frequent occurence one. Tough to tell.
I'll say right now that the game is UGLY. The models are ugly, the environments are disgracefully low poly. Yuck.
The gun sound effects are quite nice, I think the recoil is over done - personally, your mileage may vary on that point.
The guns add a great deal to the teamplay - it only happened once, but I got shot and lost my gun. The medic came along, healed me and ditched a spare weapon he'd found somewhere for me. I REALLY felt like protecting that guy, I can tell you!
The netcode was... ...interesting... ...even when I found a purportedly low ping server, it was generally a lag ballet when I got in. Some work needed to be done here, and I don't see what's going to drag me away from Ghost Recon and MOH:AA as the two extremes of this sort of gaming, to be honest.

127: if it makes you feel any better, I've got a 1500 mhz athlon, xp pro, and a radeon. 2/3 different from yours and it locks up. Locked twice today actually... played for a total of about ten minutes. Nice one barking dog, i'm sure your game will sell millions.

| How can barking dog say they are fixing stuff and testing things when the game went gold? Shouldnt they have tested their server code before the game went gold. Poor game performance is acceptable for a MOD to a game or a "real" beta but not a game that has gone gold. Hopfully they got a patch sitting in the wings for when the game is in stores. I would say buyer beware on this game. |

i played this game for a bit before getting pissed off at the confusing controls and lack of online guide to figure out how to play.
Also (like C & C renegade strangely) it lacks like heck. Seems they haven't got valve's 'wonderful' netcode lol.
There are loads of good ideas in the game
just wanna play it properly
