bad things:the whole game feels like a console game Uh, I happen to like console games. And I also liked Max Payne. You can reason against it as much as you like, but it kept me playing - level after level. And I thought it was really pretty interesting gameplay. There were so many little things, scripted events, easter eggs, story elements and even a couple of cool puzzles throughout the whole game that I didn't find it boring at all.
And after playing through it I felt like I do after watching a really good movie in the cinema. You know, you sit there, a little dizzie, and just think "whoah". There are not many games that made me feel like that.

Commas are the American way to separate thousands in numbers (the European notation is to use periods). That should probably read continental european notation. Us brits use commas for thousands and periods (or even decimal points!) for decimals.
Sadly as pedantic as always

#11: Hello lamers....i'm going to be a curmudgeon now and piss a few people off. what's the big fucking deal about Max Payne???!!@! sure it looked great, but it was mindless, boring, and the story was pathetic, and the voice acting was no better than a B budget game. all this work for less than 10 hours of play??? CHEAPASSMUTHERFUCKERZ
wanna know why you lamers liked it? because you could pretend to be Neo in the matrix. Yes that is why this game rocked your 9 y/o worlds.
who gives a flying rats ass about the demo!@!@!@! real gamers were bored with it 20 minutes into the game anyways.

my impressions on Max Payne |

good things:game run and looked great on a p3-500 192ram and tnt2, bullet time is nice, excelent texture use and good level design, polished (not many bugs) bad things:the whole game feels like a console game, liniar and simple, short life span(no multiplayer, 10 hours play time, no replayablility), only fun the first 5 minutes---- gets boring real fast(repetitive gameplay and no new things to keep you looking forward to it). however this is my oppinion....max payne may appeal to the regular but it's only an average game...this is no Half-Life |

I always thought the purpose of a demo, was to entice people to buy the game before it is released. Why the hell are they releasing a demo now? They should have had the damn thing out before the game was released.
I thought Max Payne was an overhyped disappointment. I totally agree with some of the others here, that Undying is without a doubt the action game of the year. Unless RTCW comes out before year end, and is a very special game (which I think it will be), Undying has no competition (even though Serious Sam was very cool). I don't even want to hear from anyone that Max Payne is a more fleshed out, original, amazing achievement than Undying was. I still can't believe how poorly Undying did in sales and how well Max Payne is doing. Guess people enjoy spending $50 for a 9 or 10 hour linear, poorly scripted, unoriginal gameplay experience.
For anyone that still hasn't played Max Payne, please, I'll sell you my copy for $40. You save $10 and I won't feel like I wasted my money. Send my email and we'll work out the details.

Hey Zig, just so you know Max Payne has the hell optimized out of it. I played Max Payne all the way through on a 300mhz AMD K6-2 with a TNT1 and 192MB of RAM. It stuttered on open areas but that's about it. No crashes either.
I scored a 690 on 3D Mark 2001, the minimum was 2100 I think.
If you have the minimum requirements it will play. |

Undying certainly was the most original, creative game of the year that showed off the Unreal engine like no other game I've seen. For my pick for game of the year, it's neck and neck with Max Payne. But the guy who wrote Max Payne is no Clive Barker. Not by a long, long, LONG shot.
LONG shot.

undying looked great. I'm sorry for being complete bastard, but I wasn't hooked (and yes I did download the demo). I'll perhaps buy it in the $5.99 bin. Max Payne on the other hand hooked me even thought I hate 3rd person games. After playing it twice in 3rd person, I downloaded the (non-official) patch and played it in 1st person. This is a great game. Well worth the wait. It is good to see that 3DR still has some living souls. Hopefully we'll see DN4E before we all go on social security.

Commas are the American way to separate thousands in numbers (the European notation is to use periods). The demo will be 137163202 bytes which equals 130.8 MB. As usual, we'll be hosting a local copy.

The retail version was great I hope the demo reflects this and I urge anyone who hasn't picked up the full version to try out the demo.
Although I wonder if the demo is going to contain episodes from the game or all new ones - the way half-life did it. |
