New DOOM QC Movie

In addition to the DOOM game screenshot from the German print magazine GameStar (story), the DOOM Center Downloads section also now has the DOOM QuakeCon 2001 video presentation, compressed down to a 4 MB download after discovering a less compressed 200 MB version on the GameStar cover mount CD. Update: Concerned about the wrath of the powers-that-be over permissions and copyrights and stuff, they have decided to pull the downloads of this movie until they can be sure it's kosher.

The quality looks ok though doesnt look like a shaky cam footage so its probably id approved but thats just me guessing of course
I finally got to have a look at the footage tonight (thanks Phalex), and it's most definitely ShakyCam footage - you can see the edge of the footage moving within the movie frame - and id Software requested no cameras to be used during the presentation. So this snippet was smuggled out, and it's not likely more will show up elsewhere.

Except for the german idiot talking and that 2/3 of the whole clip is just the camera zooming away from John Carmack its pretty damn impressive but all too dark to really see the animation but it looks like "pinky" is running around a steel-factory(lots of metal stucture, lava, and flames) he bends some steel fence and jumps over it and then its over.

The actual footage from the CDROM was 17MB, when ripped it was a 200MB AVI file, then that was compressed to 4MB with DIVX. So yes, that's pretty much everything given away in the mag... but definitely not everything shown at QCon.

Wow, is it hard to talk out of your ass?

The lighting is incredible in Doom III, have you seen any of the previous vids? Its also supposed to have that horror feel, of course its gonna be dark and such.

And no great games? Did you ever play Doom II when it first came out? Not comparing it to games today that are 10 years older, but at the time it was THE game. Kickass graphics, cool music, tons of enemies coming at you. Gah it was great.

It is because carmacks new code can't handle too many lights that everything looks darker than a black man's anus??

It's not moody, it's stupid! But then again ID were never ones to make great games...

DOOM QuakeCon 2001 video presentation, compressed down to a 4 MB download. There is nothing but german garbale and two seconds of demo footage. This is not the entire presentation. I want that 200mb version 8)

To those who saw it, were you impressed or just me?

No, I wasn't. However, I think due to the video quality many details (especially lighting effects) were lost in this short sequence. It really looks like it was designed to show off the realistic lighting model but most of the background and the creature is just too dim to see much of it.

I liked it. For a demonstration clip it's not bad. I did enjoy seeing the demon's mouth rear back to expose gums and teeth.

re: No picture.

Being it's an AVI file, you probably don't have the right "codec" for viewing the file in your movie player.

The video was compressed using a DivX MPEG-4 DVD format, and the audio was compresed using MPEG-3 (strange).

I'm using Real Media player and Windows Media player under Windows98. RM should have the latest update somewhere on their website, which should give you the latest decompressor for this file. Also Microsoft should have the latest update of Windows Media player on their site.

re: Taking down the movie?

Did gamestar receive approval from id software for releasing this footage in their magazine?

Are u using Windows media player or Playa because the movie doesn't work in playa? It works in windows media player. Make sure u have the latest version of divx and are using the lates version of WMP. The movie was okay. I think it was a bit too dark. Still the fire effects were pretty cool. I think it is best to avoid these poor quality movies and scanned screenshots. The game has been in 9 months development and i don't think there is much that one can hold on to. If u remember none of the original quake3 screenshots resemble anything that quake3 looks like....

It contains like 5 seconds of gameplay footage. I'm still waiting for a Doom movie that shows a decent amount of in-game footage.
