Dude, you are forgetting one of the things that make PC games great - the fact you can get so much more out of a game than the developers originally intended. Do you think Sierra or Valve could have made TFC, CounterStrike, Half-Life single player mods, Opera, Action, etc etc by themselves? Of course not. No one developer could do all that, however CounterStrike is one of the biggest games of all time!! You get ALL that variety with one $40 purchase of a game (which was also one of the best games of all time). My point is, you sound like a console gamer, talking about longevity and how what you get when you buy the game is all that matters. Take advantage of your PC and try some mods; just because they are not made professionally by developers doesn't mean they can't be a blast (just look at CounterStrike). Max Payne looks like it will be an amazing single player experience, much like half life was. And the engine, together with the photo-realistic textures and bullet time feature opens the mod community to an unlimited number of possibilities.
It seems you are just being pretty selfish when it comes to what you want out of a game. I'd rather a game be short and sweet rather than long and agonizing (ahem, Diakatana). I've played Half Life single player through countless times, and play TFC and CS all the time still. For a $40 investment, I'd say I definately got my money's worth. Think about that. |
