2K and Firaxis Games announced today that XCOM® 2, the sequel to the Game of the Year* award-winning strategy title, is now available worldwide for Windows-based PC, as well as Mac and Linux via Feral Interactive. XCOM 2 already has critics raving with IGN awarding it a 9.3 out of 10 and saying, “XCOM 2 is an amazing game”, along with PC Gamer writing, “We’ll play this forever,” and awarding it a 94% out of 100%. Game Informer Magazine also wrote that XCOM 2 is “one of the deepest and most rewarding strategy games on the market” and awarded it a 9.5 out of 10.
“Firaxis is taking the XCOM franchise to a whole new level with XCOM 2’s epic story and replayability factor, making it the most thrilling game in the series,” said Christoph Hartmann, president of 2K. “XCOM 2 is a worthy successor to the award-winning XCOM: Enemy Unknown, and is already receiving outstanding reviews from critics.”
In XCOM 2, humanity lost the war against the alien threat that has established a new world order on Earth. XCOM, formerly a secret paramilitary organization, is largely forgotten and must strike back from the shadows to reclaim Earth from the aliens’ rule and free mankind from their evil plans.
“The XCOM 2 team strived to create a sequel to XCOM: Enemy Unknown that gamers would love and want play over and over again,” said Jake Solomon, creative director of XCOM 2 at Firaxis Games. “Adding in features that set it apart from previous XCOM games was important to us, like a unique new narrative, more varied and powerful aliens, procedurally-generated levels and modding support. The team is hugely appreciative and humbled by the positive response so far, and we hope that strategy and sci-fi fans will enjoy the game as much as we enjoyed making it.”

Bless these guys for making their game so easily moddable. I've modded all my personal annoyances out of the game (or at least minimized them), and now I'm having a blast.
Wheeeee

"could" meaning others could, but not me. My first campaign (non-iron man) took me 40 hours with plenty of save scumming and overwatching every turn after moving a few squares. I'm still assuming XCOM 2 is artificially shorter with the urgency of the countdoom doom clock thing.
The doom clock can be very effectively held back from what I experienced so far... 16 hours in it's at 4 bars... you can focus down the end-goal but it doesn't seem very smart to do that, since you can not do research while you do that. So you have to balance that vs research vs missions and vs squad health. Gravely wounded soldiers are around 2 to 4 weeks out. And this hampers your ability severly, higher ranked soldiers are extremely powerful (though I think you could win every mission with a rookie squad (that has full tech armor and plasma) too, you just need to savescum a ton)
Im playing "semi-iron man" mode for my first play through. I only load when I seriously mess up and am in danger of failing a mission. Wounded soldiers and even an occasional soldier loss Im fine with, I do a lot of rotations so that I can man at least two full squads at all times.

Man the 90% chance to hit while flanking an enemy miss pisses me off. I'm pretty sure my grenadier needs some serious lasic
90? I have 85... when flanking... standing NEXT TO an enemy... I got my ass kicked on the second fricken mission like four times. Didn't help I had two squaddies on 20-day DL after the FIRST mission and was rolling with a pack of rookies, but still. Commander difficulty is kicking me in the pants.
The worst thing yet was when Advent dropship came in... and I had everyone surrounding the drop point on overwatch... and not a single person hits anything. Are you KIDDING?

You need to install Visual Studio Isolated Shell 2013. When the SDK is installed, it fails to execute the included installer. There's also installation documentation in the XCOM 2 SDK folder in Steam that gives you steps to set up a basic mod. https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/down....aspx?id=40764
There should also be a shell installer in the XCOM 2 SDK folder at Binaries\Redist\vs_isoshell.exe if you want to use that, or you can use the above download. Running UE3Redist.exe is probably also important if you don't have Unreal Engine 3 SDK installed.
Once you can get the VS 2013 shell launched, you need to go to "Tools - Options - XCOM 2" and point Install directory to the XComGame folder in your XCOM 2 (the actual game's) installation's location in Steam commons, and the User directory should point to the XComGame folder in the XCOM 2 Development Tools (XCOM 2 SDK) install directory.
