Psychonauts 2 Funded

The Fig page for Psychonauts 2 shows Double Fine's platformer sequel has reached its $3.3 million crowdfunding goal. This post offers a thank you video and the following message from the team:
Holy Smokes! We did it you guys! Psychonauts 2 is now fully funded!

We want to thank you all from the bottom of our hearts for making this possible. We’ve wanted to make this game for a long time, and now we finally can! So thank you, thank you, thank you!

So what happens next? Well, we still have 5 days to go, so we’ll be continuing the campaign. Everything we raise will go into making the game better, bigger, and shinier, so let’s keep going!

We'll have some mission updates soon, plus we want to show off some new add-ons we've been working on too, so stay tuned!

Enough fucking said I say.

If you're giving money to Double Fine because you expect to profit from Psychonauts 2, you're an idiot. No video required. The only reason you should give money to Double Fine is if you want to see Psychonauts 2 get made. Consider yourself a fan contributing to a cause. If you see yourself as an investor, you've already failed. This applies to all crowd-funded projects, not just Psychonauts 2.

I wonder if he'll actually finish this one.
Why should'nt he? The only failed project was DF-9.

Tim Schafer looks like George Lucas.
"...and in stonks, Fizzy Squeezy Stocklebocks leaped over Droopy Whoopy Bondfluffs, hitting 300-gigglebits to their 150-snorebucks. Meanwhile, in Whimsyland's market, the pancakes reached parity with pogo sticks."

I wonder if he'll actually finish this one.
Do you have a single fact to back that up?

Saw that a while ago, its does not really change the fact the game is funded and if that funding is enough or not.

However it does make you think twice (or even more often I hope) about Fig and what it sort of promesses

You have watched the Broken Age documentation? He's not very good in managing his own time.

Notes on the door "do not disturb until X" are usually a sign of someone struggling heavily with this, because he isnt used to it or (which would be more plausible) is too much involved in daily operations. You cannot be the managing director of your own company AND the Lead Designer of an important company project at the same time.

We will see if he has learned something from Broken Age. Or not.

Oh boy! The game this guy has repeatedly said would require more than ten times this amount to make has been "funded!" Can't wait to see what he'll do with all that money.

3.3mil is the crowdfunded portion. There is also the private investor portion, the external partner portion, and the reinvestment of internal profits. I think a lot of the success or failure of the deveopment for this game will depend on how many employee hours get consumed by that 'Psychonauts in the Rhombus of Ruin' project that is being underwritten for PlayStation VR. If they develop a bunch of things that can be easily re-purposed to streamline the true sequel, great. They save a bunch of time and money up front. Then the only bottleneck becomes how quickly they can drag a completed design document and script out of Tim. That's the part that usually kills them. I love the man, I love his games, but my god he can procrastinate with the best of them.

...which is why this is NOT the only amount of money being put towards the project. Thanks for playing.
