The Witcher III Patched

A new patch for The Witcher III: Wild Hunt is now available, updating CD Projekt RED's RPG sequel to version 1.04 (thanks Lord Tea). Here is the list of changes from The Witcher website:

  • Fixes an issue with incorrect behavior of Wild Hunt warriors after they were affected by the Axii Sign.
  • Corrects a bug that caused spontaneous combustion of gas clouds.
  • 1280 x 720 resolution is now properly displayed as a valid resolution option.
  • Fixes boat stuttering in cutscenes.
  • Texture rendering quality for the high and ultra presets has been improved.
  • Further improvements made in NVIDIA Hairworks performance.
  • A few additional gwent cards are now available in the Prologue area.

  • Updates the game icon.
  • Enlarges the loot pop-up window in the UI.
  • Fixes an issue where, in certain circumstances, the comparison window could extend beyond the game borders in the UI.

  • Introduces small tweaks in the UI for gwent.
  • Corrects some missing translations in localized versions.

This is actually really cool. I really dig that the outcomes of dialogue options that you choose aren't at all obvious, or that they might completely alter the way the game progresses later on in the playthrough. This game really is something else.

That's been a hallmark of the series. In the first one the first few decisions felt like you were being bushwhacked and they seemed kind of heavy handed but CDPR has gotten a lot better at the Law of Unintended Consequences.

Hit the point in the game where you find out more about what happened with your relationship with Triss, spoilery stuff below:

Apparently you broke up between games, seems kind of weird because if you go down that road in Witcher 2 they have a very strong relationship with no hint of problems. Its a strange decision to take away the choice the player made in the prior game but oh well, I guess its done for story purposes related to the books?

You can still "romance" Triss in this one too it seems.

Don't sleep with both Triss and Yenn in one run unless you're prepared for the consequences, it can affect the ending

Wot? When does this happen? I helped her escape Novigrad so assume you get to meet her later on?

Wait what?! I expected that scene would be inevitable in Novigrad! I'm not as far as you are yet! Damn, I really hope the game doesn't force Yennifer on you. I'm no fan of her and I really like Triss more. No idea why the Rose of Remembrance was withered when I found it, either...

People talking about something they like or dislike doesn't mean they're 'bitching' about a game. The Witcher 3 is a pretty cool game but there's plenty of areas for improvement. It already gets plenty of praise as it is, CDPR is well loved online. This shouldn't be confusing unless people are totally incapable of having middling opinions and need to fall into a love it or hate it camp about everything.

A lot.. and I mean a really HUGE LOT..... of people will ALWAYS loot EVERYTHING they see.

Of course, its a CRPG and you never know when things will be needed for some obscure event or quest. Saves a lot of time backtracking.

I played a bit more last night and had some fun with the main quest line. The sidequest writing is pretty good but I think they're landing too far on the bleak side of things now, almost every quest I've run into has some unintended dark consequence or gut punch. Looking forward to seeing a few sunnier ones.

In general, I would agree with that principle. However I am spending hours at a time with this game, and my butt would probably appreciate if those were spent on the comfortable sofa in front of my TV instead of the computer chair at my PC desk. Maybe I should look into getting a better chair.

Also the game looks so much better on my big screen plasma TV, even though its only capable of showing 720p. The color, the contrast, the lighting, the effects are much more pronounced and simply better looking.

I have to be standing "upright" at a desk or else I just can't get into a game. Sitting down on a couch and being far from the screen doesn't work for me. I can't get into it, get immersed, and I don't feel I can sustain long play sessions that way. The couch is only for party gaming with friends for me.

That being said, they sell stuff like this that you might be interested in: https://muchembi.files.wordpress.com/2013/10/couch.jpg

I gotta say that the latest patch lowered performance on my PC. Im currently in Novigrad, overall I lost about 5-10 FPS in general since upgrading to 1.04. It is still very playable.

The game does 'seem' to look better though, so maybe I should drop my detail and texture level from Ultra to High.

Also.. that Geralt can just walk in a home and loot peoples shit is hilarious. That's absolutely immersion breaking imo.

I cannot understand that so many people like yourself can complain about the stuff you complain about it the majority of your comment. I play games for comfort, too, but I really don't give a solid shit that I have to waste a tad more energy pressing ESC or another button here and there. My goodness. I get it that a game is never good enough, but complaints about fonts and miscellaneous shite like micromanagement in RPG's is stuff I cannot sympathize with -- if fonts are too small on your 60" TV, don't sit 5+ meters away and if you can't compare shit you're gonna craft with what you wear (which you can, btw), remember the old days where your hand wasn't held and how you use that nostalgia to complain about games that do, ffs.

No one asked you to care, understand or sympathize with them, they're talking about shit that bothers them and stuff that they like. In a game this good of course people are going to focus on the little things, that's a testament to its strength. The user interface matters to some people because you spend a fair bit of time inside of it over the course of an 60+ hour game. If that is too much for you to comprehend then move on with your life. The fonts being small on an HDTV is a big deal because the majority of people who will buy this game are console users, their purchasing power essentially funded development (words straight from CDPR themselves) for people like you and me so it helps to keep them a bit happy. There's also a growing market of PC gamers who hook their HDTV up to their PC, they might give a shit too.

What it really comes down to is that some people are cry babies if people say anything negative about a game they like. I've played many outstanding games in my life and I've played many shitty games but you know what I've never played? A perfect game with no flaws. The Witcher 3 is no exception. It doesn't mean people talking about things that annoy them are saying the game sucks or trolling.

My biggest complaint with the UI is the lack of a hotbar or at least a more efficient way to apply potions and oils. I routinely use 4-5 different potions and oils and only having hotkeys for two of them is pretty annoying. Hell, I'd even be okay with a radial menu dedicated exclusively to potions and oils.
