Do I need to remove Geforce Experience as well?

To be honest, I never installed that. But when you run the new driver install, it looks for what you have installed and shows old and new version numbers. So in theory, it should allow you the option to upgrade it (provided you do a custom install, that lets you select options).

Broke down and reserved an ASUS GTX970 at one of the local stores here. Just couldnt bear not enjoying this beautiful game as its meant to be played...Picking it up after work.

So...can I just pop my GTX760 out and pop my GTX970 in with no issues? Will my driver just recognise the new card or should I uninstall my old card in the device manager or something???

Uninstall your old video drivers, kill the power, and swap the card. Optionally select the install option about "clean install" with the new drivers.

Ok, Ive read on other sites that I can just pop the card in but I will do it this way as Im pretty sure its safer. Do I need to remove Geforce Experience as well? Or do I just uninstall the old drivers in "Programs and Applications" and just take it from there?

Yeah I dont get it, this is the first game 3d person game Ive tried in a long time which didn't autodetect my gamepad.

Anyway thanks for the help, so either motionjoy or x360ce emulators. Will give them a go.

The game looks great on my huge Plasma, much better than on my monitor, so I want to give it a go with a controller from a more leisurely position.

You wont need motioninjoy unless you are using a PS3 controller. x360ce is what you'll need

Word of warning, don't download the latest Nvidia drivers, they are noticably slower than the previous (GTAV) drivers in the Witcher3. You have been warned...

(They also appear to be more stable, i.e. not a single crash or hang up in a 3.5 hour playsession yesterday)

Ok, help me out guys. Im freaking out here and feel like a total noob for not getting this. How the hell can I enable my Logitech Rumblepad 2 to work with the Witcher 3...

The Gamepad works fine in the calibration sofrware in Windows, but for some reason I cant find an option to enable it in game. The game doesnt seem to be autodetecting it....what gives...??

i run a cutdown version of the motionjoy app, lets me use my old PS3 controller in windows, as a xbox360 controller

works perfectly in everything, autodetected all the way, etc. - no issues ever

i advise getting some kind of emulator like that

I use motioninjoy as well.. by cut-down version do you mean a local-mode only version? Also what version do you use and do you have a link to the particular cut-down version you use?

I love motioninjoy for my ps3 controller as its worked flawlessly in games on my PC no matter how old/new they are, but there are some quirks with the version I use and I would like to find a branch version that addresses these issues (issues like using a ps3 bluetooth remote and getting the button mappings to stick to use as a HTPC remote for Kodi, for example). Seems like the original creator of the program isnt updating it anymore..

I just got a dualshock 4 controller to try with GTA V and see if it feels better than the PS3 controller (which without-a-doubt feels better than the 360 controller in GTA V) and am hoping I dont have to uninstall motioninjoy to get that working *fingers crossed*

EDIT: DS4 worked flawlessly with GTA V just plug-and-play, no drivers needed! Still getting used to the smaller analog sticks and the slightly different deadzones, but so far it's a winner! I'll need software for 360 controller emulation down the road, but GTA V supports directinput right out of the box flawlessly. That is a true rarity in today's games.

Another way to prevent crashes is to turn frame rate to unlimited and change the screen mode to something you are not using, for instance, if you are in full screen, change to borderless window. I have a GTX 970 and I was getting crashes in cut scenes until I changed from full screen to borderless window and set the frame rate to unlimited.

I think I've put in about 8 hours so far... Finished all the POI's in the first zone, which was a little over half the time played.

I've had about 3 or so lock ups so far, most/all during cut scene's, so maybe related to the comment below. I also have a 970 (not SLI though), and just noticed earlier that hair FX were off, so I turned it on (haven't played since changing that though), so I'll flip that back off if it seems worse.

As for the Wraith Oil comment, if you're talking the noonwraith, I had no issue with it, but was using a slightly upgraded weapon... It recommends you prepare with some stuff, but I didn't have the mats, so I didn't bother, and thought I'd get beat down, but found it reasonable... Second highest difficulty (no healing by meditating). If you need a fairly good weapon set upgrade early on, Two of the POIs have weapon recipes in the first area, one is in a crypt with a power stone outside, and the other is in a fort that is near the first town you ride through right at the beginning.

And now that I think of it, it's probably not the noonwraith, but one of the wraith's usually guarding a power stone, which seemed much higher lvl... Took more damage than the bear though.

Some games/devs pull a shitty move and neglect all but xbox controllers on PC, if that's the case here x360ce might help. You basically put it in the games folder, run it and set up your controller and from then on if all works out the game will think you're using an xbox controller.

I have that pad too, InBlack. I almost always have to use x360ce to make it work. I usually don't even bother attempting to load a game i intend to use the pad for without it because the default drivers are so rarely supported by newer games.

I can't say I've ever tried to play any of the Witcher games with a gamepad though.

Perhaps you can make the Wraith Oil without a diagram? I think its called Specter Oil in W2, although in that game you couldn't make something unless you had the diagram. In W1 though, you actually could make something without a diagram, but it would show as "unknown" in your inventory - you could still use it though to find out what the affect was, which was super sweet. Maybe they went back to the W1 way? Have you tried experimenting?

Witcher 1 recipe: Vitriol, Rebis, Aether, any grease
Witcher 2 recipe: Rebis, Hydragenum, Aether, Caelum (Note before patch 1.1, you actually could "guess" potions)

Maybe some of that info will help if its possible to guess the combination like Witcher 1.

Funny how people mention the horses as one reviewer said the same thing and is still amazed that RDR is the only game that's ever made horses spot on.

So, an update: I decided to fire up the game again, was annoyed with the occasional terrible framerate hits from even just Geralt's hair on HairFX, and switched to the basic, which still looks pretty good. Everything else maxxed, the framerate is nice and smooth and I was able to play for quite a bit (most of the way through a quest, which as others have said, feels FAR more natural than how they go in most games) with no crashes.

So, my lockups are likely caused by the hair feature, which really doesn't have much effect on the game at all, not even visually. I'm currently kind of stuck, as I need to make some Wraith Oil, but I have no recipe for it, no one in the town sells it, and I can't do much damage to the monster without it (of course I tried!).

While the game isn't THE most gorgeous thing I've played, riding the horse into a forest, watching the wind pull the trees around, and seeing a startled herd of deer run for cover felt fantastically organic. Will definitely be putting more time into it. It came free with my video cards, and I've only put like...an hour and a half into it, so I can't say if it's worth full price yet, but so far, it's great. There's some hand-holding, but considering my lack of experience in the series, I appreciate it.
