Here's a german video that shows many glaring differences from the trailers to release version:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UIS5WHx4xDk

Throw in youtube crap bitrates... I'd put sweet fx on top of the right. It will look plenty good. The draw distance to me is was stood out the most and it wasn't terribad, just a bit more blurry, could be a setting in the file to adjust that as well. But again with Sweetfx, I'll have it looking better than the old demo.

I'm hoping that with the enhanced edition release of Witcher 3 they do the PC justice and not simply make it a "console parity" platform, which is a pretty douchebaggish move from such an established pro-PC games developer.

For me, the worst part of these downgrades are that they visually made the atmosphere unique, and appropriate. The beautiful water shown in trailers, the geometry detail lost at distance, and texture detail downgrades (many more repeating textures in the release version, as well as bad lighting to go with them) along with the atmospheric change in coloring to look more like disney than the dark rpg image they seemed to be going for originally.

I'm sure it's going to be an awesome game, either way, but seeing shit pan out like this just makes you look at these initial trailers a different way and realize what they are *really* showing you, is what the game would look like without consoles being a bottleneck they have to develop around. Watch dogs was the same, really, from a completely different development house, but still poisoned by the consoles. This console generation just fucking started and it's already a shit-storm of lowest common denominator BS coming out.. and this does not fare well for the next several years unless VR takes off in a big way on PC.

GTA V PC held its own, Witcher 3 is yet to be seen if its a clearly better verison than it's console brothers.

Holy hell. So much of the atmosphere that caught my imagination is gone. This is when graphics really matter to me. When the image on screen captures and thrusts me into complete immersion. The difference is astounding juxtaposed. Thanks for sharing, Mordecai...I think..

** Edit **

Before, it looked like a new, all encompassing experience with
a very unique, full character.

Now it looks like GTA V: The Witcher

Because AMD doesn't have own FABs... Nothing they design they can actually built themselves. Everything is slaved to production cycles and upgrade cycles in chip FABS and I would think console specific chips are protected somehow too. Probably some kind of non competition agreement.

Ps.: How much A10 and A8 are a joke you can see when you get an Intel NUC with Haswell core. Below 20w power usage, but performance like a big desktop thanks to the Haswells scaling extremely well at low clockrates and power ratings... not to mention ABSOLUTELY superior as HTCP because Intel GPU actually worth a damn for transcoding nowadays. And A10? A complete joke in comparison.

Yeah that was a little thick on the AMD. But like Win10's plan, the O/S, front ends of current gen... these need to now become long term fronts. Meaning, if it goes as it has, we are stuck here for another 7 years.

We need to embrace change and that change is game systems that get enhanced now and remain 100% compatible, but with better innards. Everything else is doing that and at a much larger scale and to even a more casual base. Console gamers can't handle this? Really? It can work AND AND AND it keeps us moving forward timely. PS Sell at a profit like phones, you make money when gamers go out and by the new units, win!. The old units still work, so those that want to wait, can. Many want the better stuff if you'd just give them the opportunity to buy it.

To me that is the next step for consoles to make. How do they see getting big into VR with those mid-range specs, which will soon be unquestionably low-range?

If VR takes off, they will have to release new hardware or bow out. I think they bow out of gaming consoles no matter what happens. There's just not enough money in the way the current platform operates.

The company in the best position is Valve, but I don't think they have the cultural wherewithal (i.e. no killer corporate instinct) to pull it off. They could absolutely own the high-end gaming market with SteamOS.

CD Projekt RED is giving back a little of that great cred they built up recently.

No one should be surprised that a game built for 3 platforms has serious compromises. Blame Sony and Microsoft for cheaping-out on hardware, which in retrospect feels like collusion between MS and the Big S to keep specs low.

Everyone assumed the new consoles would be far more powerful. Like someone said here on this website, not rendering at 1080p for all titles simply wasn't a conversation anyone thought was possible when discussing the new console generation.

That's a mistake on CDPR's part and one they're not likely to make again, but at least an understandable one.

You can all thank AMD for that. AMD hardware is fucking garbage. But they marketed it well enough to Microsoft and Sony, with enough of a discount over nVidia that they bought the marketing and stuffed that trash in their consoles. And now we all fucking suffer for it. Good going, PR. You're literally holding back progress. The last console gen was actually a huge step up from the one before it, but now that AMD is involved, it's barely an improvement, let alone a generational leap.

I don't know if I should blame AMD for not being able to compete or nVidia for spoiling us with actual innovative hardware. I tend to think that progress is the better path to take though, rather than cutting corners constantly the way AMD does. I wish some rich investor would step up and inject tons of funding into AMD so that we don't have to keep being tied down to this utter trash we keep having to deal with from them.

I guarantee it's going to be the same fucking bullshit with their 300 series of GPUs too. All the fanboys are trumpeting it as the thing that will finally bring down nVidia. No. 3d memory isn't going to do jack shit. They'll still be number 2, and their idiot fanboys will still defend them, despite the fact that the majority of the series will merely be rebrands, and the one that has the new stacked memory will cost far more than it's worth. When will people wake up and stop buying their shit just because it's cheaper? Force them to actually make advancements instead of holding the entire fucking industry back. >:\

Wow. I'm no AMD fan, but they built those SoCs to spec for their clients. MS and Sony could have ordered heftier parts but cheaped out and/or made an agreement not compete on the performance front.

What I've always wondered was if they can build those chips for consoles, what's stopping them (beside contracts, likely) from making a super-beefy SoC's designed to run windows? That would be a killer HTPC solution. Their A10 and A8 lines are joke. If they can build a chip with the specs like a PS4 and sell it, at a profit, for $100-$150 to Sony. Why the hell wouldn't they make chip to sell to PC peeps with similar specs for $200?

heres a dev interview: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IU9rlkCOk9E

and he admits the game was "optimized" (not "downgraded"), and that it is different than the preview versions

honestly it sounds a bit like marketing, or splitting hairs, or like he thinks he is talking to children, or idiots

the way the final game looks is fine with me, but i do wish people would stop previewing fake versions of their games just for marketing purposes.. that is fucking bullshit and it needs to stop

I've heard nobody say they can't deal with the graphics -- people are just pointing out it looks downgraded.

I'm unsure if these graphics are from maxed out graphic settings or just 5K settings. Hell, the footage you can watch right now from reviewers on the PS4 looks better than this so something is off with this source.

1) So you think they purposely downgraded the graphics for the release version only to re-upgrade them later? Sounds very unlikely to me. Judging from what I've seen so far the PC version is identical with the PS4 version except for the higher refresh rate.

2) I speak German and according to the article these screenshots were taken on a high-end PC with a heavily overclocked GTX Titan (non-X) at highest detail settings.

1. Some people commented here saying that they don't care much for the downgraded graphics as long as the gameplay is good. To me, it felt like they said it in a way as in to say the other people in this thread were saying something else. I merely felt like making clear that all the others were merely stating the obvious -- that it looks downgraded -- but that they weren't saying the couldn't deal with downgraded graphics.

2. That's pretty scary, then. But still, is the source reliable? How did they get their hands on the PC version? It isn't out yet and AFAIK CDProjekt didn't release any review builds of the PC version.

1) If it came out like criticism: Your comment is totally legit Quinn. We can only wait until Tuesday and see then. I'm hoping for a positive surprise but honestly I don't have high hopes. I for one do care about how things look. I'm a PC gamer, I have a decent rig with a fast GPU, and I have expectations especially on a title like this. Others can buy a Titan X and say "if it looks like Pac Man - fine with me as long as there's content and plays well". I'm not part of that crowd.

2) Unfortunately the source is reliable. PC Games DE is a well known print magazine in Germany and they got an early press copy of the game. There is no reason not to believe them. On the other hand they said they were pretty excited about the visuals, so... I don't know.
