MS: Windows 10 "Best" OS Ever Created for Gamers

As they approach their 40th year of developing operating systems for personal computers, Microsoft says they are getting the hang of this gaming thing, as Xbox boss Phil Spencer says they are working towards making Windows 10 "the best operating system we've ever created for gamers on PCs," according to GameSpot. "We remain committed to gaming on console, but we know that we have fans and gamers that also play on PC and phone," Spencer said. "And it's important that we build out the features that we have, learning from what we've done on console, and helping make Windows 10 the best operating system we've ever created for gamers on PCs."

Of course 10 is not really changing my view since they haven't amputated the putrid infection that is their metro app platform.

You must be confusing fear with utter loathing and hate.

Let me expand on this, I actually don't mind the fact that they have a alternate UI built into the OS even though I dislike it intensely; what I do mind is that they have an entire extra platform for applications which can only be installed of their store (which is their wet dream of course as I mentioned before).

Windows 8/8.1 is a frankenstein abortion of a OS. They should have gone full metro on the UI front and just call it something else, but they keep thinking by forcing this crap down the desktop crowd's throat it's going to get developers onboard to create content for their mobile platforms to compete against apple and Google.

Get off your knees it's embarrassing.

your comment adds nothing, it's embarrassing. however it reveals your own ignorance, so is mildly entertaining.

win 8.1 does boot faster, and has much better tools (task manager, file transfers, right-click start button menu *GODLY*). It is a more refined OS for desktop use than 7, from a technical perspective. too bad you've obviously not been enjoying a superior experience because having the start menu look more colorful scares you.

Hahaha ok, actions speak louder than words. Ship some actual PC games again. Not mobile ports and dumbass shit for the Windows 8 store. Actual games. Streaming Xbox bullshit to a tablet or whatever lame shit they're going to unveil is just more half hearted crap.

Best OS for gamers doesn't really say much. There's no competition.

The importance of Windows itself for gaming is minimal. The only reason it matters at all is because of DirectX. When I'm playing a game I don't even interact with Windows. I'm playing a game with its own interface, its own input scheme, etc.

Windows involvement in my gaming experience is twofold:

1) DirectX

2) Have an icon or something I can click to start the game somewhere.

Does it have those two things? Do they work properly? Good job.

Not wanting to sound anal about this, but the OS still does quite a few more things than that in order for your gaming experience to be whole. File I/O, thread scheduling, compiler library runtime stuff etc. Game code isn't just graphics and sound subroutines.

Having said that, I'll most likely will be running Windows 7 for years to come, unless 10 really gives me a compelling reason to upgrade. Try to force feed me any of that windows store / xbl crap and I'll streer far far away.

My point was even with the PS4's massive success, that couldn't offset the huge loses the company is taking. Simply because the console profit margins are so thin. So whether your console is incredibly successful like the PS4, or less so like the XB1, it's not effecting the bottom line of these companies a whole lot.

The embarrassing decade was with different management, maybe Nutella really digs King's Quest

Sony's losing money because of its other electronics businesses, not the PS4. Microsoft could've been Valve several times over in the PC space. It has the resources but it continually fucks up the PC market with its lack of any initiative or focus. The result is frankly embarrassing, a decade of PR bullshit and a client so fucking useless they shuttered it and now point to an Xbox app on the PC as proof of their commitment. Just a terrible joke.

We don't need more words or dumb fucking PR events. What the platform needs is games. If Microsoft really wants people to take them seriously on the PC they need to start shipping PC games again. Otherwise shut the fuck up and let the real market leaders do their thing. Just shipping Halo once in awhile isn't going to do it either.

None have survived it b/c their revenue depended on a console success. Microsoft can afford to fail more than twice and still be fine, they still have 80bn in revenue every year from their other departments.

That said, I really wish they'd throw way more resources into PC game development. Hopefully next week is the beginning of something.

Oh they can afford to fail twice just not in a row - and 3 times out of 4. Xbox was never a big profit earner. 360 did well. XBone is tanking. Next one sucks and it won't just be a huge management overhaul. They'll shut it down.

XBone is selling better than the X360. So compared to it it's doing just fine, but console hardware in general has razor thin margin's, always has, there's little money in it even if it does sell well, the point is to sell your games and services. Just look at the PS4. It's outsold the XBone every month before the price decrease and Sony's about to announce a 2 billion dollar loss this quarter.

It's worth it to MS to have a product in this category, even if it makes pennies compared to Office and Exchange. They're a services company. They want their services on your TV. Besides what good would it do to have them gone? Competition is good, it keeps Sony from being lazy.

It's a long way off but I really hope Sony win the NEXT console war. They've won this one hands down and if MS fuck it again next time that will probably be the end of Xbox - no console manufacturer has survived two shitty consoles in a row.

Once they are forced to shut down the Xbox division I think Microsoft will throw all their resources and game studios behind PCs just to try and stop Sony monopolizing the market.

Weird to think the best thing I can do to help PC gaming is to subscribe to PS+ on my PS3 (give sony money to build a better next gen).

I'm having a hard time getting excited. Even when they announce DirectX improvements it seems like it takes years before any games actually take advantage of their unique features (or video cards can even run them smoothly).

It's gotten to the point I wish Microsoft would just leave games alone and not even think about it when it comes to Windows, because virtually every time they do something game and Windows related it ranges from disgusting to dumbfounding.

The conflict of interest they have between PC gaming and Xbox is insane, especially since this Phil Spencer has been running things they seem to think PC and Xbox are direct competitors and anything they take or loose on the PC gaming side means a plus on the Xbox side.

One would think any company which allows an environment where different divisions think or behave like they are competitors would eventually fall over, nevermind when they then give the head of one control over the other. To big to fail helps there I guess.

I wouldn't be surprised if Window 10 comes out with Xbox teeth sinking into it on one side and Windows Phone from the other with a touch of exclusive DirectX.

MS has already worked up too much of a reputation for making every other version of windows suck giant dildo. Considering they skipped 9, 10 could in fact be the bestest version ever and it wouldn't even matter because everyone already knows the good one got skipped this time.

I think I'll just stick with 7 until SteamOS is ready for primetime.
