Exactly. I loved FC3 so I bought FC4. Looking forward to playing it this week

And this time with co-op! How could you not like a triple A, open-world game with co-op? It's sooo much fun playing with a friend!

A year later and progress on the game is barely noticeable, unless you count hats and random junk as progress. Some core mechanics are still broken and are likely to never be fixed. They need to scrap the entire engine and start over with a better one. Maybe then they would make some actual progress.

Dayz on Rockstar's engine (the one used for GTA V (RAGE)) would be amazing. They would need to add a more realistic ballistics systems but other than that, it would be way better than using the ARMA engine(s).

The Dayz mod will always be one of my favorite games but the SA is junk and I gave up hope for it ages ago. They're just milking it and will eventually wrap up development and run away with everyone's money. I doubt very much that the final version will be much better than this turd they call alpha.

The two funniest moments I've had in FC4 so far:

1) Not funny, but amusing - watched a rhino take out some bad guys. Stopped laughing as it turned and charged uphill at me. I started running backwards while unloading into its face with the heavy machine gun, killing it about a foot from me and having its corpse slide on the momentum right into me, pushing me backwards, like a movie cliche

2) Saw my first tiger, and promptly hit it with my car, throwing it off a cliff. Sadly, it was in one of the hatchbacks that spin like crazy, so my attempt to get back on the road went awry and I went over the cliff, too. As I crawl out of my now upside-down flaming wreckage of a car, I find myself nose to nose with the now extra pissed off tiger I'd just pushed down that same hill. Oops

What saddens me a bit is I feel I've already locked in on the weapon combo I am unlikely to change (I probably used the same combo in FC3.) I have a very accurate semi-automatic silenced smg (seriously, I can do red-dot or laser sight, what's the difference?), I have a machine gun for when I screw up the stealth with the primary weapon and just need to kill things fast while running around like a maniac shooting from the hip hoping to find some cover to either bandage myself or reload the damn hmg or both, I have the Robocop side arm and I have a sniper rifle I haven't really used because it isn't silenced.
Shotguns are fun, but not as useful as anything I'm carrying. Same with grenade launchers, RPGs, and bow-and-arrows. And flare guns. And how come I don't have the harpoon yet?

In this one you've got eagles that come out of nowhere and sink their talons into your face.
While playing on my buddy's system for maybe an hour there were 4 bird attacks and 2 snake attacks... along with a rhino, leopards, a bear, wolves, etc

Was a tad excessive.

Game sure is fun, though.

It's absolutely FC3.5, but I'm loving it. Everything is improved, outside of those eagles which aren't much fun. That fauxhawk guy on Forbes had a good point - Ubi can probably only get away with making the same game once, but like that guy and his hair, I don't much care at the moment - it's a blast.

The animals are definitely more lively this time. In the first, I rarely saw two animal types together. Here? I've at times been overwhelmed with the amount of animals around. And the damn eagle - leave me alone, I'm hunting monkeys for a wallet.

The game also has more random events, which I first remember seeing in RDR (but may have come from one of the GTAs and I just don't remember.) Some of these are annoying, as you're in the middle of a mission buzzing by on a gyrocopter (they gyrocopter!) and suddenly someone is yelling to save them from a crazy murderous honey badger (ok, that line makes it somewhat worthwhile.) Too often I'm too busy and moving too quickly to intervene.

Killing in this game still just feels fun. I like sneaking through an outpost and trying to take it out undetected or at least with no alarms. I like that I once did that riding an elephant with a heavy machine gun in one hand, then redefended the outpost with a mortar. I even don't mind that I spent "Ubi points" or whatever to unlock the Robocop gun.

The standalone is a buggy mess and showing no signs of being finished anytime soon and DayZ managed to sneak back into the top 10. That's just amazing.

Yeah, it's still a pretty fun game though. I still play it infrequently although the lack of progress in the 11 months since release is disappointing. The network code is the big failure point to date.

It's an early-access game that's been in the top 10 most weeks since being released last December.
Currently playing: ARMA 3 mods and DayZ

Maybe. I've been having a blast for like 30 hours, and I've still yet to progress to the second half of the map (it appears this time, they're not making it a surprise). It is exactly the type of emergent events mentioned in this thread that make it so fun for me. Sneaking up a radio tower and an eagle starts harassing me, so I have to shoot it, and this being pretty early in the game means I don't have silenced weapons and alert the guards below. Or racing back to town for an urgent story mission, I stumble into a skirmish between reds and blues with a goddamn rhinoceros running around attacking both sides, toppling vehicles and all that.

Sure, a pack of wild dogs screwing with you when you're scouting out a stronghold can be a pain, but it's INTERESTING. Use the tools you're given to deal with it, like tossing some meat over at your enemies so they go over there instead, or use the syringe that hides your scent or whatever so wildlife leaves you alone. The humor in this game is freaking out when you come across your first honey badger and shooting it with an RPG, nearly killing yourself and then seeing its ragdoll roll down the hill. I've also accidentally deployed the wingsuit at a low altitude where I was just trying to jump over a crevice, but then flying-squirreled myself into a cliff wall and died.

If you're judging the game on the first couple hours where you're supposed to be weaker and more at the mercy of the harsh environment, you're missing out on the badassery of running while sneaking, using a silenced .50 cal rifle to kill multiple enemies when they're lined up (or pierce the helmet of those heavy bastards), chaining takedowns in the same OP fashion you enjoyed in FC3, etc.

I tried FC4 over the weekend @ friend's place and I gotta say that apart from the fairly impressive graphics the game is uugh, bad. Glad I didnt buy into the hype and buy it (after the awesome Blood Dragon I was tempted). The humour falls flat on its face, the story from what Ive seen is likewise lackluster. The movement through the world feels sluggish and nonresponsive, sort of like being stuck in molasses. What the hell is up with that? I dont remember Blood Dragon being like that, although my memory isnt what it used to be. Also, the control scheme and UI is weird, but then again all othe Far Cries had that problem.

Maybe Im getting too old for shooters. Hummm.
I have a nifty blue line!

After all the hype about FarCry 3 I was a a bit disappointed by it. It was ok, certainly worth the $12ish bucks I paid for the FC3/Blood Dragon pack Uplay code I got on sale at Amazon, but definitely not worth $50-60. The story was total shit, but it was fun to play. I heard the same hype about how awesome Blood Dragon is, but I haven't played it yet because I'm not ready for another letdown.

I'll wait till FC4 (and any DLC they shovel out) is under $10 before I pick it up. Does FC4 still make you do those ridiculous hunt rare animal quests to make weapon/ammo holsters and upgrades before letting you carry more weapons and ammo? Does it have those god damn bird things? I generally left the wild life alone, other than the ones I had to hunt to make weapon/ammo holsters, but those bird things were annoying as shit. I was minding my own business scouting an outpost thing to try and take out silently when I hear something behind me. I turn around and it's some of those bird things charging at me. I'm a little disappointed with FC4 so far. I knew it was going to be Far Cry 3.1 and I'm OK with sequels being iterative improvements but I think FC4 is worse in a few ways. Every character is a tiresome Vaas-wannabe who drags out their unskippable cutscenes and the mountainous landscape isn't as much fun to navigate. It's fun, but it's probably not as good as Far Cry 3.

Exactly how many of these "Vaas-wannabe" characters have you come across?

It's early in the game (south area only) but all the named characters seem to be trying way too hard to be memorable and interesting through some combination of wackiness and intensity - it feels a bit like a committee looked at how Vaas scored in key demographics and wanted more of that. In fairness he wasn't the only over-the-top character in FC3 so perhaps I'm reading more into that but regardless, the characters seem even more forced this time around.

The minister/gun-runner and the Kyrat TV lady in particular are annoying. I've only dealt with the TV lady once and don't really want to see her again, thankfully I'm not very interested in her missions.

By the sounds of it, Extra Credits are going to be all over it.

There are some common elements but generally you will get 2-3 playthrus out of it before seeing a lot of repetition. The locations are pretty much set but what occurs in each can vary a lot and you have different survivors each time.

Great game, truly depicts how miserable war is from a civilians perspective.
