There was a pretty interesting book done several years ago on the history of Los Angeles's sewer systems:

http://www.amazon.com/Brown-Acres-Intimate-History-Angeles/dp/1883318750

The sewers featured heavily in Troika's game Vampire: Bloodlines and I recall seeing an esoteric review of this book, complete with pictures that looked much like the game.

That was cool article on the wastewater treatment facility.

One thing they didn't address is how do they detoxify the water from the medical waste that's in it? Bleach is awesome but can it truly clean water from the sheer amount of pharmaceuticals that millions of people have in their waste?

Actually, the growing amount of pharmaceuticals that are making their way into our drinking water is an increasing concern.

Yea, there is a ton of anti depressants and narcotics in our drinking water. Some areas have tested with enough to have an impact on your body.

So, Jurassic Park 3 actually got it right?

Spinosaurus, the guy in JP3, has actually been known about for quite a while. Everyone seems to think JP3 made it up, but it was a real dino!

I guess I meant that it was actually bigger than T Rex. I thought that they'd made up the fact that it was actually that big.

The engineering for waste plants and stuff like that just fascinates me to no end.

And getting eaten alive. Yeah, that's gotta suck. Worst one I've seen is on teh Youtubes, two hyenas mowing down on a poor animal's - buffalo I think it was - stomach while the thing is still alive and just bleeding out. Darn nature, you're cruel. That and the pride of lions that take down the little elephant. So sad.

And yet PETA would have us all believing that animals have the deepest respect for each other and nothing bad ever happens in nature.

Watch a herd of Zebras kill a dog just for shits and giggles and get back to me, crazy animal worshipers. Nature is very cool, but by no means gentle or cruelty-free.

Once, when I was a kid, I was walking across a grassy field and stumbled across a snake that was just beginning to swallow a field mouse it had caught. I watched with interest for a short bit but I was in a hurry and when it became obvious it was going to take quite some time for this snake to get the thing past it's jaws I started to walk away.

I was about 40 feet away when I heard a thud and turned around to see a red-tail hawk flying off with the snake. Cycle of life....

That is very cool, I for one would be proud of that facility and what it did to my waste products. Where Im from it just goes, hell I dont know where it goes. Into the sewers I would guess?

In the western world pretty much every country has sewers that go straight to facilities like these. Nobody can afford to not recycle waste water. It'd poison the landfills otherwise. And with poison I mean "wasteland" literally.
