Out of the Blue

There's this theory that placing bars of Irish Spring soap in your yard will repel the deer that view flowers and shrubs as an all-you-can-eat buffet. We've seen bars of it in other yards, and decided to give it a try ourselves. I can confirm this works like a charm... an overnight visit from the deer left our flowerbed chewed to shreds, but sure enough, they did not eat a bit of the soap. Success!

As another had mentioned, I was going to say just pee on everything in the front yard. Just slam like a 12 pack of beer and go for it! Make it like a game and time yourself to see how fast you can do it! You could call it,'The Sprinkle Sprint Challenge'. Hell, invite your friends over for a tournament!
Uh, you might want to do this at night though and make sure you're good and loaded. Hehe

Fuck the NFL. I say this as a former huge fan of the NY Giants and the NFL in general for about 30 years.

They are so insanely greedy these days it makes me sick. Not only do we have billionaire owners getting cities to fund stadiums for them on false promises of increased business/revenue, we have players getting seriously injured or killed (more and more after their playing days are over it seems as well, via head trauma) then getting shoved out of the league, and now we have them making acts pay to play in the Superbowl. ROFL.

They make the music industry seem like saints in comparison, and they used to be the greediest fuckers alive.

On the plus side I will have more free time to catch up on my backlog of games, not watching the NFL anymore.

So an average Tuesday then?

They could get rid of the performances and halftime would still be longer than regular games. The allure of squeezing in extra commercials at astronomical Super Bowl rates ensures it.

Well, the NFL IS a business. They have to make a profit.

Piss Off Plant - Plectranthus 'Sumcol 01' - apparently these work quite well at keeping all kinds of animals away. If not, mothballs should do the trick. They most certainly do not like ammonia.

I use these small LED lights on posts which alternate between red, blue, and green throughout the night and that keeps animals out of my garden. I don't understand how, but not even a bite has been taken out of all the veggies since.

I think they already do, since the cost of the broadcasting contract the networks pay to carry the Super Bowl is already astronomical. It'd be kind of a strange oversight if the expectation of providing a half-time show wasn't part of that. The city that hosts the game pays for that, the network pays to broadcast it, they aren't paying the performers as it is, and they want even more money out of the deal because the NFL's doing them all a big favor just by being there I guess.

Try "processed fertilizer", comes in small bags, doesn't smell terrible, and you just spread a little ring around the plants and the deer will avoid them.

Blue, spraying ammonia or preferably a very dilute mixture of soap and water on the leaves in the evening will deter deer from snacking overnight and in the morning. Do it for a week or two and the deer will take your flowers and shrubbery off the buffet line. The soap+water mixture being sprayed on rather than simply leaving the bars out has the added bonus of deterring bugs like aphids and moth/butterfly caterpillars. On my parents old ranch we had to do this occasionally with our apple trees and rose bushes.

Ammonia is good for ridding yourself of raccoons that invade your trash cans as well. Spray it in and around the cans after every pickup and the smell will deter them until the next pickup. Obviously, if it rains you must reapply.

I kinda see where the NFL is coming from on this one. At least from a business perspective. I would rather the NFL pick a show that has broad/classic appeal and pay a bit to make sure it goes off well rather than the latest teen pop-star with the largest record deal paying their way on stage...but I see the league's point. The audience for the Super Bowl is huge and any performers are going to gain much more from the performance than the NFL is going to gain from having that specific performer. Nobody says "I am going to watch the Super Bowl because "insert band here" is performing at halftime". (okay, nearly nobody) The only thing the performers change is whether or not people actually keep watching the TV for that 30 or so minutes.

In fact, perhaps it's the network carrying the game that should consider throwing some money up for the halftime show. I would imagine that expected viewership during halftime changes based on the popularity of the halftime performers. As such, the amount of money a network can can expect to charge for commercials would be affected as well no?
