The Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt Trailers

The Witcher website has a new trailer showing off the setting of The Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt, CD Projekt RED's action/RPG sequel. Word is: "From the murky reaches of No Manís Land to the harsh climate of the Skellige Islands, to the vibrant metropolitan of the north, Novigrad--behold, the gritty and diverse universe of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt." A high-end look at the game's graphics can be found in another new clip on Gamersyde (thanks DSOGaming) where there's a clip with uncompressed graphics that's a 1.3 GB download.

Goes without saying!

The miracle of Witcher 1 was that was the freaking NWN's engine. Talk about a massive facelift.

Please don't pull a Ubisoft and the final game looks only half as good as this...

It does look too good to be true, what's the budget for this game anyway?
Depends on the site you're looking at, but anywhere between 20-40m. The Witcher 2 was around ~10-15m if I remember right, USD of course. Though there's a blurb on CB that Witcher3 has only cost ~7m in expenses so far.

I don't think they've ever said specific numbers, but it's "by far" their biggest production value game.

Since this is the last witcher game, perhaps they could make some serious bucks by making a complete Trilogy HD pack.

As in, completely Redo (graphics/fix bugs/whatevs) Witcher 1 and Witcher 2 on that latest Witcher 3 engine, but keep in the mechanics, gameplay (with the gameplay they could add an "enhanced" optional mode that perhaps mimic combat of the latest one), all of that of those originals. so they play as they "were" just all spiffed up with the latest fanciness of the new one.

i think you mean the "full combat rebalance mod", which actually makes it play much more arcade like and less realistic

You're right, it's not actually realistic at all. I couldn't think of the name of the mod anymore, and I was too lazy to google it.

its more fun tho - more like a responsive video game style

Yeah it makes it a lot more responsive. I liked the combat better with it, but the mod did other things that annoyed me (biggest thing was taking away XP for monster kills) so I never actually played the whole game through with it.

The fights in W1 were kind of fun, but I must admit my favorite aspect was all the sex.

Um, is it bad to say that? Maybe it's TMI.

Not only does this game look *fantastic*, but they're using the same engine for Cyberpunk.

Can you f*cking imagine what that's going to look like?

Witcher 2 sits unfinished on my desktop. I put an hour or two into it every few weeks but there always seems to be something more current setting next to it. Doesn't help that Dark Souls 2 keeps pulling me back in.

I'm sure I'll have time between now and launch, but there are a LOT Of promising games between now and then as well, and other games I want to finish before their sequels hit as well, like Far Cry 3 which I'm 80% of the way done with.

Shit Christ this looks like it's gonna be a computer upgrader level game.

AAAA. One of those ones that comes out every 5 years or so (or even rarer)

Seriously looks so intelligently made, not made for reflections on the internet, but because they have an idea and follow it to it's conclusion.

Really looks like they're completely involved in this, not just working for a paycheck.

Totally agree & I think I'll need to upgrade my Nvidia 580 now....

@descender

You've resumed my biggest issue with the sequel. Loved the game like you alluded to fights depended on fighting the controls to beat the enemy.

I liked the first two, but they had their annoyances. Things like the inventory system was cumbersome and the steps required to drink a potion. Also, I didn't really care for the combat in the second one as it felt too realistic or something. These are games after all and the primary gameplay should be fun. The first Witcher's combat was fun even if it was a little odd. I'm sure this will be great for a lot of reasons, but I really hope they worked on these other things.

You are probably the only person in the world who prefers Witcher 1's combat over Witcher 2's combat.

Anyway, they've based the combat in 3 off of the "realistic combat" mod that one of their devs made for 2, so if you're hoping it would go back in the direction of the combat in 1, I'm going to have to disappoint you.

The fact that one of the devs wanted to further improve the game strictly out of passion, and then the team decided to roll with it for the next game just solidifies my respect for these guys

Honestly... I was one as well. Didn't hate 2's however, just preferred 1's and also agree with the UI has always been a bit clunky using potions etc in combat. To me I do everything I can not to ever need to use them because of the disruption, so imo there is a design win to be had there if they could figure that out.

I wonder how well this will run on solid systems (not absolute top of line).

I liked the concept of W1's combat, with different situational styles... the only real problem was the QTE implementation of it. Even after modding and patches, the combat in W2 never really clicked with me... and it felt like I was Rotfl fighting against controlling Geralt more than I Rotfl was fighting Rotfl the monsters.

Rotfl .

Somewhere between QTE/canned animations and rolling around all over the place to dodge hits... there must be an answer.

I know you're cynical man, but has CDP ever done us wrong on their games? Faith, it's not needed in this case.

No, they're awesome, but I WANT it to look this good and play this good, so that's why I'm hoping this isn't just trailer fud.

It's fluff in the fact that I will never be able to run the game at the settings that they are being run in the trailer.
