Assassin's Creed Unity Trailers

The roguish sorts at Ubisoft now offer a couple of new trailers from Assassin's Creed Unity for our viewing pleasure. The UbiBlog has an Arctic Naval Gameplay Walkthrough trailer which shows one of the game's less probable environments, saying: "In the North Atlantic seas sheets of ice offer new areas for exploration, but also new threats and challenges to your sailing abilities. And as if the ice and seas themselves didn't offer enough danger you’ll be faced with cunning enemies using new tactics to send you to a frozen grave." They also have a river valley land gameplay walkthrough trailer they describe thusly: "In this walkthrough commented by Game Director Martin Capel, you’ll learn about naval gameplay in the river valley and get a look at Shay’s new weapons and abilities like the deadly air rifle and its various types of ammunition and Shay’s “Eagle Sense” which allows him to locate, avoid, or eliminate Assassins lurking in the shadows."

Truly, I'll soon want to lock my head between my hands and scream "MAKE IT STOP!". Even the fucking title that pops up everywhere I look is beginning to cause some weird twitches in my facial features here and there. Fucking hell!

Then you should probably stop clicking through and making overly dramatic comments on articles regarding this franchise. If it's not your cup of tea, move the fuck on.
Do you have a single fact to back that up?

I've been on sabbatical since grinding through Revelations. Even if the games were all great (big if) I simply can't stay interested in 1 a year and after missing a couple I'm not very excited to jump back in.

Pretty impressive how our most popular historical fiction series has made so few concessions to reality after a full console generation cycle. Still jumping into haystacks are we?

Is there a Naval PC game out there that can cater to my needs? So basically looking for a kind of "Pirates!" game.

I hate Pirates! It's a simple arcade mini-game collection. Black Flag is the best modern pirate game, but it's still pretty arcadey and it's 50% pirate 50% assassin. If you want a real pirate simulation, you have to look at the old Akella games. They're incredibly hard to get into though. If you're not scared of spending hours learning it, I can suggest Pirates of the Carribean. It's one of my favorite games of all time. It's pretty old now though... You can check the sequels like Age of Pirates: Caribbean Tales and the like, but I couldn't get into them because they lack a real main quest. They're all freeform rpgs.

Okay, I'll admit it does look a bit different, so my choice of the word "literally" was ill-conceived.

Why are we sailing the same class of ship again, though? The best mission in AC4 was the glorious yet way too brief 5 minutes when you got hold of an actual Man of war and got to unleash 487 million cannons on your hapless opponents.

It still seems super fucking lazy. (though I didn't realize you play as a Templar this time around, which is interesting.)

IF this comes out on the PC, I'll probably pick it up when it's ten bucks or so.

Uhh the Morrigan and the Jackdaw are not the same model.

Morrigan

Jackdaw

Other than being sailing ships of roughly the same class (The Morrigan looks a bit smaller), their designs are fairly different. If you compare a profile shot of the Jackdaw with a profile shot of the Morrigan, there are more apparent differences. The stern deck is situated lower and it lacks the second row of gun ports.

So I am kinda confused here. Is this a new AC game or a DLC for Black Flag?

It's a new game (well... "new", it's really just content. Everything else is basically exactly the same as Black Flag) that'll come out for PS3 and 360 (no idea if it comes out for PC, tbh.)

Unity is also a new game, but it'll come out on 'next-gen' and PC only. So this is basically just a bone they throw at the 150 million old console owners. (Which makes sense, but it seems supremely lazy. The ship you're sailing is literally the same model as the Jackdaw, and all the enemy ships are the same too.)

These are AC: Rogue trailers and not Unity.

That said, I'm looking forward to more naval combat. AC4 was an absolutely blast because of it, and despite the fact that they hadn't really improved much on the land gameplay.
Do you have a single fact to back that up?

What is this happy horseshit? Naval combat gone fully arcade. Gas masks, grenade launchers, air rifles? If this is the direction Ass Creed is going I'm out.

AC4 black flag has the best naval combat, imo, but Rogue will apparently be just about the same game (same models, same enemies, they really did just about 2% work on this game), and the environments are much, MUCH better looking. So you'd probably want to hold off for Rogue.

As much as I loved the naval combat, and would likely love Rogue, I'm definitely not going to start buying two AC games per year.

i mean, is asscreed 4 completely out of the question? cuz that had fantastic age of sail gameplay. ummm... empire total war also had what you're looking for, although it was 3rd person and you commanded fleets. also land battles.

Thanks. Will check those out!
