Gigantic Announced

Bellevue, WA-based indie developer Motiga announces Gigantic, an online game they call "genre-bending" (though it sounds an awful lot like a MOBA) coming to PCs in 2015 bringing "a combination of teamwork, action and strategy to a vibrant fantasy world." This announce trailer shows off the concept, and points the way to the GoGigantic website where they are conducting alpha signups. One of the developers on this is StarCraft and Guild Wars lead designer James Phinney. "The gameplay in Gigantic is about creating opportunities to be heroic," says Phinney, "Whether you’re rescuing an ally, sneaking behind enemy lines or facing off solo against a towering guardian, there are dramatic ways to turn the tide of battle." Here's word on the game:
In Gigantic, five players charge across a fantasy battleground alongside their guardian, a five-story-tall monster they’ve sworn to protect. Players start by choosing from a roster of unique heroes that fits their gameplay style, then aim, dodge and leap across the map until they defeat the enemy guardian. Every battle in Gigantic lets players earn rewards, unlock new heroes and fine-tune the gameplay to fit their style.

Commenters talking out of their asses is not new. And neither is James Phinney, the reason why I know this has a high probability of being good. He's a lot more accomplished than anyone here, blueballs

MOBAs are terrible because they are a genre that expects some level of teamwork among random people, which is never a good expectation to have. Sure, you can queue up as a team, but the average MOBA player isn't a serious enough gamer to bother with that. They play with their friends on occasion, but more than likely their friends are going to have vastly different skill levels. I know mine do. That can breed all kinds of animosity and make teamwork difficult.

So they solo queue and get their shit pushed in a lot of the time and just come away feeling very bitter about it. That bitterness festers in the community.

A lot of the people who spend more than a couple hours a week on MOBAs are some of the most bitter, vile gamers you'll find. They make some of the old bitter Viagra takers around here look like beacons of positivity and hope.

I honestly wonder why MOBAs are so popular. It seems people find some entertainment value in repeatedly losing and then getting super mad, because they keep going back for more. Maybe they think they'll be super pro some day if they keep trying. That must be enough of a carrot.
Do you have a single fact to back that up?

Have they shown any gameplay footage of Battleborn yet? From what I've read, it's more of a shooter while this is more of a traditional MOBA, albeit with shooter controls.

If it's F2P and comes with a paper manual, then I may get this if I run out of toilet paper.

So is this the new thing? Create a stylized MOBA and call it anything else other than a MOBA?

Rule 1 - Everyone has to make a MOBA.

Rule 2 - Your MOBA must be goofy as shit.

Rule 3 - You must claim your MOBA is somehow different and not really a MOBA.
