Out of the Blue

Seeing reports of plans for today's World Cup final are a little scary, as they seem afraid of how Argentinean fans will react to either a victory or a loss, a Kobayashi Maru scenario worthy of Captain Kirk, as well a group therapy for an entire country. Here's hoping it's a good match and that cooler heads prevail regardless of the outcome.

Seems when the entire game is won by a single score at the very end, it does seem more luck than skill.

Did you see the goal? Nothing lucky about it.

Seems when the entire game is won by a single score at the very end, it does seem more luck than skill. Most team games are based on a lot of luck and random team efforts or circumstances. Which is why I prefer death-match (free for all) in video games. I am 100% responsible for my success or failure.

I called all 4 games after the quarters, although I certainly didn't expect Germany to beat Brazil by that scoreline. My predictions earlier in the tournament were dreadful so the obvious conclusion is that I've massively improved and can now predict any result. Right?

Before the tournament, my call was to sit on the fence and only pick Brazil (over Spain and Germany) when pushed.

Congratulations Germany. The best team. Schweinsteiger versus Mascherano was a wonderful battle.

Just a quick zip through - they didnt' answer ANY questions did they?

Not really. People would ask about their finances or covering physical rewards, etc, and they would just cut and paste their non-answer from the FAQ. That's why things went so badly for them: Instead of taking the opportunity to clear the air and be honest, they doubled down on the "we'll tell you more later" or "we've already covered that, and won't answer it again" (when in reality, they never answered the question the begin with).

It's like they don't understand their failure is totally because of their own actions. You could actually watch the kickstarter losing money as they participated in the AMA.

Germany is world champion again after 1954, 1974, and 1990. This team deserves it. And it makes the US match vs. the new champs look even better, doesn't it?
Consoles? I owned two: a Pong clone and an Atari 2600. And that's it.

Ouch. That'll teach those people to dare to go to a Siberian beach. Hopefully nobody got seriously injured.

Well played, meteorologists.

Yep, exactly what you'd imagine when Siberian beach is mentioned.

Yeah, that was... not my point. Are you suggesting they have metal umbrellas because there are such frequent hail storms?

A good gust of wind would take people's head's...

Would you rather stand under a cloth/plastic umbrella during a massive hail storm?

Why do they have metal umbrellas? This could be the most dangerous beach on the planet :p
