Out of the Blue

A conversation in the forums got me to thinking about the missing screen and storm windows in our bathroom I mentioned yesterday. I had just measured the opening to see if I could find a replacement somewhere when it struck me that it would be very odd for someone to throw storm windows in the garbage unless they were completely destroyed. Sure enough, a little poking around in the corner of the basement that still contains mysterious odds-and-ends we found when we moved in here turned up a screen and both storm windows. They needed cleaning, but were otherwise in perfect condition, and slid right back into place. I guess they were removed for painting, and were never replaced when they couldn't get the window back open again, but whatever the reason, this was a satisfying conclusion to an odd situation.

He didnt have to. He basically implied it after book 3 of Wheel of Time after his writing took a nosedive and he decided to basically milk that shit for all its worth and then some. Have you read the books?

I gave up after book seven, 4 endings where Rand fights the 'Boss' fight only to get the "The princess is in another castle" ending was too much for me thank you very much.

If someone told me to hurry up and finish something I consider my life's work Id tell them to fuck off too, and probably in a much more expletive manner.

That's a funny attitude, since how when he inevitably fails that bet he's not going to be around to have to own up to it anymore anyway.

I don't understand why he cares so much what people think / write about him to begin with. He wrote a few decent fantasy books that were very different from the rather rote fantasy that was out at the time, took roughly a decade and a half to get to even the halfway point in his story, then sold the rights to HBO and is now making so much money he can probably literally do whatever he wants to.

I would care as much about the naysayers as I do about finishing the actual story, which is to say roughly zero.

Sweet. Thanks for the heads up!

are... are you guys talking about destiny beta keys? if so, and if you have a spare, any chance you could fling one my way?!?

Based on what the page says, we don't actually get them until next Thur (a week away), but anything's possible. Today, we just picked our format (console).

It did not feel 30 years old.

Probably because it feels like the world and society is moving in a more dystopian direction.

*Imagines Blue in a real-life version of Gone Home.*

Speaking of Gone Home, I just finished that a few days ago. It was pretty amazing. Man, that house was creepy. But I loved the way the story was revealed. A lot of RPGs could takes notes from this game. It would really improve the story telling.

I fired it up on the PS3 from PS+ got it free....fell asleep after going through 2 rooms and dying. heheheheh I was tired....

I hear that. Haven't re-read in a while, but was my favorite author in high school and college. Have read the Amber chronicles many times.

I seem to recall Robert Jordan saying much the same thing before croaking and leaving the Wheel of Time series incomplete. That series should have been wrapped up by about book 5, but he just kept dragging it out and spinning into a textual soap opera.

Other disappointingly unfinished series would include Roger Zelazny's (2nd) Chronicles of Amber and Gorden R. Dickson's (Dorsai) Childe Cycle.

Yeah, no. Jordan was the victim of a rare blood disease. He spent years fighting it but was aware that he may not be able to finish the books due to his disease. He remained hopeful, but made plans and took notes so that in the event of his death his wife could have someone finish the books for his fans.

He never once said "Fuck you" to concerned fans.

Looks like every shit design of the past 5 years with large spaces to the left and right for huge gigantic fucking ads. YAY just what I want on a wide screen monitor, only half of it in use.

re: Martin and dying before the series is done. I wish the guy well, but it's happened before several times with series authors. Hell Robert Jordan expected to finish his series, he died before the last two books were done. At least Brandon Sanderson did a good job finishing it up.
