Play PC Titanfall for Free

Origin News announces a new program granting gamers free time to play games they haven't purchased. They kick this off with an opportunity to try this out on Titanfall, their recently released mech shooter. Here's how this works:

It’s Game Time! This is a brand new program on Origin: it’s free time with full games. Origin Game Time isn’t a demo, it’s the full game playable for free for as long as there’s time on your Game Time clock. And we’re kicking off Origin Game Time with a truly massive experience: Titanfall on PC.

This weekend you’ll be able to download Titanfall and play for free for two days straight. We’re launching Origin Game Time for Titanfall across the world over the next several hours, so if you don’t see it available yet in your territory, you will soon. Origin Game Time games will appear on our Free Games page when they’re available to download.

Haven’t felt the thrill of dropping an 18-foot tall metallic beast on your opponent? What about the rush of leaping from wall to wall through the war-torn alleyways of a devastated compound? This is your chance to really see for yourself what Titanfall is all about. Play it for yourself. It won’t cost you a thing.

For Titanfall you’re getting 48 full hours of Pilot/Titan action. It’s the entire game. The Origin Game Time clock begins the moment you start the game for the first time, and ticks down in realtime. Whether you’re fighting your friends or taking a break, the Game Time clock will continue to run.

Love the game after playing during Origin Game Time and want to continue? Your Titanfall progress is saved and you can pick up right where you left off if you purchase Titanfall.

If you already own Titanfall, this weekend is a great time to get back into the game. Origin Game Time will bring new Pilots into the fight – help your teammates or swoop in for some easy points.

Titanfall is only the beginning for Game Time and there’s more on the way. Each Game Time will be unique: different game, different time on the Game Time clock. We’ll keep you posted on Twitter and Facebook (and here!) when your next Origin Game Time game begins.

@ Yonder, while I think that adding bots is probably a bit more than a few lines of code, it certainly is much less resource intensive than a SP campaign. And there's a lot of knowledge on how to program bots on multiplayer maps, since it's been done on dozens of games. Hell, UT did it 15 years ago, and individuals like Stephen Polge programmed bots for Q2 by himself. Like you say, it's inexcusable not to have bots to allow multiplayer games offline or with a few people vs the AI. I have dozens of hours in the BF2 mod AIX, either alone or with a couple of people b/c that feeling that you're participating in a huge battle is a lot of fun. And I can do it at my leisure without having to find and join a game, anytime day or night, not deal with teenagers, etc. etc. And that's why I won't buy BF4 or TF until there are bots.

What I really don't understand is why Dice or Respawn won't allow modding of their games so modders could do the job they don't want to. Very frustrating.

What that guy said. There are bots for some functions, but not all. You still end up needing to be online and find other (human) players.

While I'm sure that it's clear by my response to jdreyer (sp?) I'll just repeat.

That has nothing to do with a SP campaign. I should have phrased it better I suppose. But... yeah... lack of bots have nothing (or little) to do w/ lack of SP campaign. SP campaign means a lot of resources devoted to creating it, no matter how throwaway it is. SP bots (i.e. 1 person and 4 bots vs 5 bots, for example) *SHOULD* mean just a few extra lines of code and a few selection choices. But seeing how obscenely restrictive publishers are these days.......

but they do offer a fully configurable single player offline mode with bots. Titanfall does not.

And *THAT* is why I don't like inappropriate complaining. If what you actually want is a fully fledged SP campaign then fine, but Titanfall has never remotely pretended to be that, so if you got the game and are disappointed in the lack of a fully-fledged SP campaign... that's on you.

But no bots to train against or play when your internet goes down or... whatever...

Yeah, that's lame. Horrible as a matter of fact. But I've seen dozens and dozens of complaints about the lack of campaign but none of them mentioned lack of bots.

I always just assumed that, because of the actual CONTENT of the complaints, that common sense applied and that you COULD play against bots, like with UT and Quake and blahblahblah. I guess that's on me... tho I would have preferred proper complaining.

Ugh... this is in the same vein as disallowing LAN play for a PC RTS (/cough... Blizzard... /cough).

I friggin hate publishers. I am ASSUMING that if it were entirely up to the developers that they'd let people want what they obviously want and should have. Meaning bots for one-person MP.

jdreyer: Thank you VERY MUCH for clarifying. And thank you for doing so all maturely and whatnot instead of, well, you know.

I don't understand all the hate for the complete lack of single-player. I saw this as a return to the pure multiplayer game, like Unreal Tournament or Quake 3 Arena. I don't remember a lot of crying about the lack of SP campaigns in those games.

Sure, it was because those games stood on their own with MP only, but... why not apply the same standards to Titanfall?

For the record, I haven't played it, but I do believe in judging a game PROPERLY. Titanfall isn't pretending to be something it's not from everything I can tell (with the exception of pretending to be an Xboner killer app).

Don't like twitch games? That's cool. I used to, but I'm old now, and it really doesn't appeal to me outside of possibly playing with my friends (who are old now too). I remember going to a mega-LAN recently and played UT with a youngster who was somewhere between 15 and 22. We got ANNIHILATED. Back in the day, we were top of the game. Obviously he was much, much better than us, but to be blunt, it's no fun playing against players of that caliber. So... twitch doesn't appeal to me anymore.

But obviously... twitch shooters are still a huge thing. I just don't understand the hate. Mostly tho the above-stated SP-campaign comparisons.

WHY do you think you need a SP campaign? You can play against bots, correct? Then who cares?

Although Jivaro specifically wants a SP campaign, most of us are just asking for Single Player. UT, BF 2, and Quake 3 are multiplayer only games (no campaign) but they do offer a fully configurable single player offline mode with bots. Titanfall does not. Nor do BF3 or 4. Why do I make this distinction? To crib from the BF4 petition:

1) They make multiplayer accesible for persons who dont play online (yes, many of these people still exist)
2) They allow a player to practice all of the game modes at any time with a full compliment of combatants.
3) They dont curse, cheat, complain, or leave the match when loosing.
4) They allow for a full game without any lag, slowdown, or dropout.
5) They provide great opponents Vs. teams of humans (once their difficulty is turned up).
6) They cause a game to have infinate replay value.
7) Even if we can only play alone (no Lan) with Bots, it would be a great opportunity to practise all of the vehicles. Online it is very hard to practise new types of vehicles.

It doesn't really make sense, either. They have a beta private mode in game that requires at least one other human player, so the mode is more or less there. Everything already has an AI routine already to work more or less by itself, too; your titan will use AI mode if you aren't in it, there are loads of NPC's fighting anyway, but the option isn't there to just play without other people.

I'd play the shit out of it if it had a bot mode, but still will probably find myself going back to CS:GO instead just because of that even though I like Titanfall better gameplay-wise.

A major gripe I have with these new games, is matchmaking causing a complete lack of community. Back in the day with dedicated servers, even though they'd be empty half the day, you'd eventually get to know the people you played with. In a game like Titanfall, while finding full games is as easy as pressing the PLAY button, there's just an endless stream of random faces to play, which gets boring for me fast. I suppose if you get really into it you could join the competition scene (which I assume exists in some form) but I was never *that* into it.

Yes this is a major problem with all new MP FPS. I'd be playing Titanfall all day long if I had a steady dedicated server where I could get to know the players and community.

Whatever happened to all the posts proclaiming TitanFall as the greatest FPS ever created? Anecdotal, yes, but I don't know a single person that is still playing more than a match or two a week.

I don't really play it too much (don't really play anything too much) but I still think in terms of game play and level design it is the best MP FPS presently.

Of course, with only 48 hours of it being free, I couldn't even get it downloaded in time on account of the insane size of their sound files.
To be clear, it's 48 hours from the time you start the game, not the download.

Had plenty of fun with Titanfall when it first launched. With the exception of some VERY minor dabbling with Halo on 360, it's the only online FPS I've played since Quake 3 Arena and Enemy Territory, really.

Somebody just needs to buy an Unreal license and kickstart a 24-64 player online shooter featuring vehicles, destructibility, and NO FUCKING DLC. Open it up for anybody to host their own server and anybody who has an Unreal license can make maps for it. (Hey, they're only $20 a month) Instant success.

Yonder, I don't know about the other people but "hate" is mischaracterizing what I said. I don't hate Titanfall. I am simply not interested in it without a single player campaign. I am judging it properly, I am judging it based on what would be fun for me to play. As should everybody with every game. You don't buy a game because someone else is having fun with it. You buy it so you can have fun with it.

Maybe they want to compete with the free to play MWO?

I play MWO and with my limited play time I see no reason to get into learning a new game...
