http://aqfl.net/node/11029 for the details and my first ever E3 visit. I also checked out this game in its tiny booth, but it was the best of all booths IMO! Smaller companies FTW!
Did you give the Oculus Rift a try with Elite?
I am loving the beta so far.
I have to stop playing it or I'll burn out before the game even comes out
No, I didn't get to since someone was hogging it and was having too much fun with Elite game guys (Dave!!) and game! I am not sure if VR would work since I can't see 3D. I did regret it to just try it for free. I kicked myself.

This does look amazing, but to Cutter's point, what are the missions? How are they structured? How do you get bounties, for example? I've only seen the one vid where the dude tried to trade and lost money since he flew to a star system where the price was much cheaper than he paid for it.

In the old games stations would have a mission board where you had a list of missions and chose which ones you wanted to take. Frontier: First Encounter went a little further and also had newspapers describing events that you could go after. There was also actually a storyline, kind of similar to Privateer's.

I think one of the E:D videos showed the player accepting bounties in real-time, while flying around in space.

That has to be the ugliest ship ever to grace my monitor, WTF were they thinking.

They seem to be keeping the old ships from the series, which were designed for prehistoric computers.

The final released version will be $50 I believe.

Standard beta, which gets you access to what they say is the final beta stage of development before release, is listed on their website at 50 pounds, and the release version is 35 pounds.

I could see me springing for that 50 pounds. 100 is just too much to drop right now, but there can be no denying how good this looks.

When this game drops to $50 or $60 or so, I'm so in. Elite was by far the best game on my old c64, and this looks very faithful to that.

According to Braben from that interview I've linked the game should be out later this year so you probably won't have to wait too much longer

Wow, I didn't realize that spat would be in violation.

Sadly some posters can't keep their comments within the rules.

Back on Elite, it's looking good.

Nor did I. I was fairly restrained (perhaps in more ways than one, now ).

Will there be an editor for this so players can create theur own quests/questlines for other players? That alone would be a major saving grace.

You're in the spaceport bar and overhear a conversation about a rather large reward for an alien artifact in the XYZ system. So you head out there an encounter a somewhat primitive tribe guarding the artifact. Do you negotiate with them? Do you annihilate them? And after said artifact is secured maybe you have to fight off those same treasure hunters. Perhaps you get a call with someone offering a bigger or different reward for it. And by choosing one or the other group to deliver the artifact to you've now made some friends and enemies.

Captains wheel style controller, Oculus Rift and a game like Black Flag. I think I'd like to try that.

Don't know which of these space games will be fun, or disappointing, or broken, or incredible, or whatever. And after X: Rebirth I'm willing to let someone else play the guinea pig with the preorder.

I'm just happy to see this genre is still alive. And if they are all good, there's no reason we can't buy them all...
