To my point though, you didn't pull out a gun and say, "You're done. Out of my table in five minutes, or I put a cap in yo ass." (Somehow I imagine Cutter saying it that way. ) But that's what they're doing, and why it strikes me as unrealistic.

If I could get away with I would. And that's exactly how I speak normally anyway. I'm straight up OG yo!

OK, SM, money dropped. Won't get to try it until at least tomorrow night, but I can kick off the DL in the meantime.

I'm thinking the last space game I played was Freelancer...been far too long.

Looks pretty awesome. Wonder if there will be some way to know what the price is at various stations before you go there.

I'm still annoyed that the automated turrets will target you if you don't exit or land within a set timeframe. Seems unrealistic to me.

Time is money. If you're wasting space and time in the hamger that's money they're not making. I was the exact same in all my years serving/bartending. Soon as I thought you were done I was trying my utmost to get you out of my section so I could flip the table and make more money. I never suggested apps, and I did my best to dissuade anyone from ever having coffee and/or dessert, 'Yeah, our coffee is pretty terrible and the dessert isn't any great shakes either. Lucky for you there's a cafe down the street that does amazing coffee and dessert!' People hanging out for another hour sipping coffee and sharing a piece of cake doesn't make me money. Getting new asses in the seats with some mains, a few bottles of wine does. If it was my space station I'd run it the same way. Get in, do your bidness then GTFO ASAP!

Damn, you guys are not making it easy to hold off until release, luckily my wallet is making the decision for me.

I can live with a 'huge' advantage to early adopters that achieved everything through gameplay and not a 2nd mortgage on their house to afford the pixel ship they're in.

I have no idea what you're talking about.

I never thought about it in the original Elite, but now I have to wonder why coriolis stations have a rotating docking port. Did Braben not watch Babylon 5? :p

The docking section on Bab 5 (one of the best shows ever, btw) rotated as well. Provides immediate "gravity" for the ship to dock with once it's rotating in line with the station.

Random clip showing it in the first few seconds..

I especially loved how the fighters would launch by simply being unclamped and thus thrown out the launch bay.

Elite's looking solid. Think I'll dive in later this month.

The GUI is going through some changes. This is the first iteration of the trading interface.

Good to hear. Thanks Meat. However I do notice that station still has that stupid rectangular opening.
Oh yes that is the iconic docking opening.
Tbh if you are flying a smaller ship like the Sidewinder or Cobra it is not a big deal but with bigger ships like the Lakon Type 9 or the Anaconda it will take some getting used to. Not to mention the cargo you will spill if you smoke your ship on entry or exit the station.
One other thing they've done is you carry chemicals or explosives the small hit to the ship can cause it to explode so those will be extra expensive to carry and trade.

There are just so many things going on for this game I could sit here talk about it for days.
The future looks even more exciting. Planetary landing is one of those things I am really looking forward to.

Edit: here is a size comparison between the ships that are currently in the beta, there will be 20 different ships when the game comes out
From left to right:
Anaconda, Lakon Type 9, Cobra Mk. III, Eagle Mk. II, Sidewinder Mk. I, F63 Condor, navigation beacon, standard canister.

I hope because it's still early on that the market GUI will be getting a major overhaul because that looks fairly useless as is. Didn't look you could sort anything by demand, nevermind compare products across multiple systems/planets.

And I also hope that rectangle isn't the only docking bay in the entire galaxy - and that the stations should vary widely, and not just differently coloured lights. That would get boring real fast.

It's easy to get excited, but start looking at the nitty-gritty. Do these sorts of things exist or will they exist? It's all those little things that add up that make the difference.

Damn that looks good! Can't wait. Going to finally get the TrackIR for this one. I may go Oculus Rift if motion sickness isn't too bad and if somebody can convince me I can still use my keyboard properly without being able to see it. I'll be playing with a Saitek X52 so maybe I won't need the KB anyway.

I would guess that a good keyboard for the Oculus Rift would be one of those smallish hand sized keyboards for gaming. Seeing your peripherals won't be a problem once they start adding cameras to the outside of the rift. I would guess that in-game camera input rotoscoping (I guess?) of your hands/body parts/flight sticks/keyboards/dummy guns will be common by the 2nd iteration of the rift.

edit: body parts, ewwww.... porn is always a killer app.

There will be docking computers (not available for us yet) that will help you with docking bigger ships.
Dock an Anaconda is quiet a challenge.
