Diablo III Turns Two - Birthday Bonuses

Battle.net announces that tomorrow marks the second anniversary of the release of Diablo III on March 15, 2012. To celebrate, Blizzard plans a livestream with the developers tomorrow on Twitch, and announces a bonus to the drop rates of both Rift Shards and legendary items will be in effect starting tomorrow:

On May 15, 2012, the gates of the Burning Hells opened and Diablo III was unleashed onto the world. Since then, millions of heroes have been created, billions of hours have been spent in games, and trillions of demons have been slaughtered without mercy. We've even released an expansion!

To celebrate the game's second anniversary and the community that made it all possible, players who log in to defend Sanctuary this week will receive double Rift Fragments as well as a +100% boost to their chance to find Legendary items. This bonus birthday buff begins in the Americas on Thursday, May 15 at 12:00 a.m. PDT and ends on Thursday, May 22 at 5:00 a.m. PDT.

You have cable and it's not stable? That seems odd, I take it you are semi-rural?
Yeah, east of L.A. in the small mountain/huge hilly areas. No DSL (too far to CO), fiber, etc. Bleh.

It is stupid and unfortunate. However, if you enjoyed D1 and D2, the game is worth ignoring that problem -- assuming you have a stable internet connection.
Nope. My cable got slow and lost connection a few times within the last 45 minutes.

I'd say other than the on-line requirement, it is as good as D1 and D2 since loot 2.0 and RoS. I waited almost two years to play the game, and it was worth the wait.

One quick note, you can use Marquise on your lvl 1 chars. There is no lvl requirement on gems anymore, so find a slotted weapon as quickly as possible and throw a red marquise or higher in it DPS+++ level on master diff or higher.

Edit: ah hell another point. I personally never store anything above flawless imperials in my stash, i always end up using them to reroll rings/amulets. I can't see the point in storing gems above flawless (especially of each color), if you're spending the money making royals and flawless royals you likely have an item you specifically want to put it in anyway.

It would still be nice if Blizzard introduced a "wallet" similar to what ANET did in Guild Wars 2 but include gems.
Yeah, I know I could use the higher level gems on the low level characters, but I don't like to. Just a personal quirk.

You clearly have more gold in D3 than I do. On my "main" I have not yet gotten my gems for my chest and legs up to flawless royals. And even when I do, there are all my other characters. Let alone enough to make all the imperial flawless I would like to have for re-rolls.

It took me over a month of just playing my DH to get all slots available fitted with Flawless Royals. Lot's of money I have not. I am enjoying this goldfind buff/fix they implemented in the patch though. Seeing lots of 15k+ gold drops on monsters on t2 and t3

And the five types above it, at least. That's 25 slots. Plus if you want to keep some of the pre-RoS ones when you build new characters..

Let me be a pack rat if I want to. Sell me tabs!

I'll give it some points there too, the stash is pretty annoying in D3 with 7,000 different unique crafting materials. Allegedly they are going to remove all crafting materials from the regular inventory in an upcoming patch though.
I hope they do the same for gems. Crafting mats and gems take up almost an entire tab for me currently. And make gems auto pickup like gold does, even better -- make that a toggle setting in the options.

Despite some terrible advice below, anyone struggling with T1+ before they hit level 70 is just wasting their time. Play on Hard/Expert/master, whatever you can handle until you hit the level cap, THEN turn it back up to T1+. You want to be at the level cap as quickly as possible, not wallowing around on a mid-40's character getting crap legendary upgrades you'll replace in 10 levels anyway. You get better quality and unique legendary drops at level 70 T1+, and all item farming should be done in RIFTS, which double your legendary drop chance IIRC.

PoE does get bonus points for allowing me to buy as many stash tabs as I want.

I'll probably go back to PoE at some point I'm sure, but right now D3 has my attention.

So PoE is better because it HAS to have Always-online DRM... but D3 being online-only is a "hassle and technical bother" to play?

Hilarious.

The fact that 2 years later PoE fanboys STILL have to come post shit in the D3 threads tells you everything you need to know about PoE.

Diablo III's on-line always requirement for single player gives you all of the hassle and technical bother of F2P but with a premium price tag.

Path of Exile > Diablo III for just that fact alone.

Hi people, if you are having difficulty at Torment levels (any, 1 through 6) I am willing to bet why. If you are attempting this with your level 60~70 character that you "just" leveled, forget about it.

Take a level 40~45 character with reduced lvl requirement weapons that will Clear the Screen of enemies in T2~6.

Blizzard doesn't want you to really know this, but this is how I'm having fun. 6 Legendaries and 10 plans and 250K gold in 1 hour play this morning.

what fun is there to stress out in lvl 70 gameplay that yields nothing but non-rewarding frustration?

If you're not having fun playing D3, you must quit now. you will do yourself and the direction that gaming trends a huge favor. We musn't let Blizzard dictate conditions on their fanbase. It really has to be the other way around. Vote with not only your wallet, but with your time too. Is your 20,000+ hours invested not worth anything to you?

so they fixed the game 2 years after release? TIME TO PARTY!
Looks like you are trolling to me, but you did get this right. They did fix it after nearly two years. I wanted D3 to be great, but until loot 2.0 it was merely okay -- not sufficient to motivate me past the silly on-line requirement. Now I've been playing since two weeks prior to RoS and it has been a blast.

Yes, it gets somewhat repetitive in the "end game" -- but Diablo games have always been like this.

He always trolls for attention. Not worth your time.

Sounds like an extra fun weekend in D3 to me...and an easy way to knock out some more paragon levels.
