I mean I rue the day when companies like EA and Square start putting their games up on KS.

I don't care, let them do it. What would an EA kickstarter get? Twenty bucks, from some EA employee's grandma?

But if that's the only way Square will revisit their great games, well, I'll put up some money. (Fortunately it doesn't seem to be, as they're doing pretty well with re-releasing old stuff, even if it's just shitty old PC ports.)

Alright. They need to remake that. For the PS4. With kick-ass graphics, exact same gameplay.

I'll buy that for $60. Shit, I'll Kickstart it for $100.

Don't give Square any ideas...

Why not? It's better than the shit they've been putting out lately...

I have no desire to play any RPG on a mobile. I don't think they need to remake anything either, just do some new games with the same design principles as the older ones.

I completely disagree that music is NOT a vital component of the product. Ok this might be a subjective thing, but to name one example the first Diablo wouldnt have achieved cult status without the brilliant soundtrack...

That's fair, and as someone who's played music for 20 years I can relate. But what I mean by 'vital' is that the game can still function without that element. Diablo still works as a game without the music. The music absolutely adds to the experience, but it wouldn't actually break the game if it wasn't there.

In film, the composer usually comes in to do the soundtrack for a few months near the end of production. He doesn't work the entire length of the movie. That's why Hans Zimmer does 4-5 scores per year. I imagine it must be the same for game production. So, I wonder what other duties he had. Sound design?

It's interesting that his wiki page states this:

O'Donnell is a self-described political conservative, and his coworkers at Bungie described him as the most right-leaning employee at the company.

To be called out on your political views at work is usually not a good thing unless you work in politics. After 15 years as a full time employee, to be terminated 'without cause' usually comes down to personality clashes.

He was let go by the board of directors, usually not populated by the most liberal employees at a company. I guess we'll see if this had anything to do with it.

Exactly. Would not be surprised if they attempt to sell off SOE, of course I doubt anyone would be interested in buying it as the division is pretty far behind the times when it comes to games.

As to Bungie, when they only put a MMO on a platform like consoles where people usually only play games for short periods before moving to the next one, the entire company is under brain dead management.

They remade FF IV(II in the US) on the DS as well. Upgraded graphics, Voice Acting (pretty good VA IMO), added dungeons and some additional game mechanics that fit well with the original.

I'd support 6 getting that treatment or better.

At least Square has finally realized that, hey, people will pay MONEY for remakes of their older FF titles on newer systems. I've been playing the FFX HD remake, and it's been pretty awesome.

Maybe one day they'll stop being morons, and remake FF3. (though it's possible they may just not have any of the actual source code anymore.)

3 or 6? FF3 was remade on the DS, FF6 or NA 3 has yet to be properly remade (I think there are crappy iOS and Android version out there)... and I want a (real) remake badly for that one. Probably my favorite of the FF games, closely followed by FF 4.

It very well could simply come down to financial reasons. I just find it strange that he chose to use the word terminated instead of laid-off. When people hear 'termination' they usually think 'fired' (which the article assumed), and to most people being fired means the employee did something wrong whereas being laid-off means it was a financial reason. I'm probably just over analyzing his one sentence tweet however .
