Elder Scrolls Online Launch Prep

Elder Scrolls Online forums outline the maintenance schedule to prepare for tomorrow's official launch of Bethesda's new MMORPG (thanks Acleacius). Here's word:

As 4/4 is already here in some parts of the world, the North American and European megaservers, store, and account system will be taken offline soon as we prepare for the end of Early Access and our worldwide launch. Our team is working hard to ensure the downtime is kept to a minimum, though we anticipate the outage to last approximately 3-4 hours. We will let you know the moment the servers are back online.

Once the store, account system, and game come back online, you will see the following changes:

  • The official ESO store at store.elderscrollsonline.com will be switching over for launch. You will be able to select your preferred subscription plan and payment method.
  • The ability to upgrade from a Standard Edition to a Digital Imperial Edition will be available in the official ESO store.
  • The Palomino horse will be available for purchase from the official ESO store.
  • In-game mail is being turned back on.

Please check back soon for more information and updates, and welcome to The Elder Scrolls Online!

Bethesda has prostituted itself with this travesty. Thankfully they did not make it in-house and so when it inevetably fails and goes F2P 6 months down the road when people realise it's not Skyrim, or Morrowind, or even Daggerfall with an online component, but rather a reskined World of Warcraft, I hope they get back to what they do best. Make their ES games in house and keep them firmly in single-player fully MODDable territory.

What makes an MMO just a 'reskinned WoW'? Or is it just that it's an MMO, because I played a reskinned DOOM the other day, and it was a hell of a lot of fun...

He, like many people said.. "it feels like a few other people playing Skyrim with me"

I normally give games a test run myself, but I value his gaming opinion, and after we played Wildstar, he said that it's WAY better in every way vs ESO.

I WANT ESO to thrive.. competition is awesome! But I am hearing it's just not that good vs what's out there already, and what's coming soon

I have a gamer co-worker with the opposite reaction... He was hyping about Wildstar for the last year+... Tried the beta, and got meh'd out... Tried ESO beta, and that's what he's been playing the last few days...

Welcome To The Real World.

You mean the real world where there are better MMO's than ESO and which don't have a monthly fee attached?

This ESO MMO is as generic as they come - there is simply no justification for the monthly fee in THIS CASE considering their competition.

Give it time, i'm sure they too will realise this.

Glad you are enjoying it though! Half a dozen beta's were more than enough for me.

Yea, says you. Ill take a monthly sub any day of a free to play model. the F2P model nickel and dimes you to death for almost anything you need or what to do In the game.

And since when has a monthly sub now become bad?

Because it has a pay 2 win store as well as a sub.

There is no pay-2-win equipment in the store in TSO. Know what you are talking about before spouting nonsense. Nothing worse than someone throwing around terms they have no clue what they actually mean.

As to the sub option, if you want to enjoy any of the "AAA" games that have gone f2p you still have to sub to them. Playing any of them for free is just a very frustrating experience. What is the big deal, if you like a game pay for it. F2P games that don't have a sub option end up milking your wallet for far more than a normal sub. I get so tired of explaining this to the ill-informed. Wake up!

Seriously dude, give it a rest already. if you don't like the game please don't come in here spouting shit like that. No one cares about your lame opinion. The game happens to pretty damn good. But someone like you who most likely never played one second of the game has a negative opinion about the game.

Woah hoss, easy. I don't think I've ever commented on any of the ESO threads, so I don't have a horse in this race or any real opinion on the game.

It just seemed to me that this game hasn't attracted a lot of attention. Not like some of the other major MMO launches of the past few years. So to find out that it was coming out tomorrow has taken me by surprise.

I know I should have put a paragraph there, I meant ESO with my comment about the subscription, and SWTOR with my comment about how annoying f2p can actually be.... I blame kittens!

Exactly. Wildstar is downright perfect for a certain type of player but ESO has more general appeal. This is unsurprising given that they both targeted specific audiences. The ESO devs have even specifically addressed this when they made API changes in late beta. I'm personally glad for it, I'm not interested in that more hardcore crowd that will adapt well to Wildstar's grindfest. I honestly want something more immersive where I can just take my time and enjoy myself...

(I also played SWTOR and GW2, both at launch for many months, and both had their strong points but F2P/B2P does indeed nickel and dime you to death)

Created a Guild in the Ebonheart Pact. Send a msg to @xXBatmanXx. I check it multiple times a day when I am not playing and not getting as much time as I want. Hopefully will get to play more but I am very impressed with the game. Again, I am not a big MMO guy, and to me, yea, it is Skyrim with friends. Which is fine with me. The lore, story, environments, NPCs, everything is very enjoyable. I am not knowledgable about other MMOs to know shit about shit, but it is fun to me.

Come join us. Or don't.

Running 5 characters to try different builds and wanted to see all 3 starting areas. Very cool. Collecting, crafting, making beers, etc like a mofo.

Try them for yourself if you're interested. I'm enjoying ESO, but I don't think it's great; I don't regret paying for it. After trying Wildstar my interest in it is practically zero... it's good looking, but more or less plays and acts like DC Universe or Champions Online in a sci-fi/fantasy setting. The graphics and animations are fantastic, though.

They're very different games and will appeal to different people. Honestly, though, for what it's worth... if Warlords of Draenor hit right now I wouldn't play either of them.

As for this being as generic as they come, I take it you haven't gone past level 15? Because the game really starts to open up after you get on the main land and questing. I have seen MMO's that are way worst then this game. This game at least has quality voice overs acting and voice overs for nearly every NPC that you talk to through your the world that is of relevance. Where is that being done in any other MMO? Certainly not in Wildstar.

Monthly sub became bad when MMO's became nothing but generic themepark clones which everyone has already played dozens of times already.

The game opening up after level 10 helps, but it's still same old same old... and does nothing to help the cumbersome combat and tired old formula.

As for voice overs - SWTOR? And it's free!

You sir are delusional, SWTOR is far from free. That game is the epitome of Nickel and Dime you to death.

I played SWTOR a couple of months back, got to level ~20 and never had to pay for one thing. Though maybe i did it wrong, or was blinded by all the amazing voice acting that i was unable to see how terrible the GAME actually was...

Hey, wait a sec, maybe you are onto something!

I'm enjoying it and glad I got in early before the commoners. But there are a bunch of bugs still. Bunch of quests couldn't be completed until a day or two ago. Still random disconnects and such. There was also a lovely bug where you would randomly log in to some random person's account. I think that one was fixed pretty quickly though.

Still, I'm enjoying it. The crafting is different. And leveling up feels good.

Gotta agree on that, timers, cooldowns on certain missions, restrictions everywhere. SWTOR is the example of how fucking lame free to play can be. I get they want to ear money, but if they had balls they'd ask actual subscriptions. As it is, f2p mmo's are mostly complete garbage unless you play an hour a day at most.
