The last time I played Planet Explorers (around November or December) the playable area seemed really tiny. Has it been expanded at all?

I liked the idea and the look of the game. Combat was unintuitive and movement was clunky. The UI also kinda sucked. Although it's still in alpha. Unless there was a huge leap since the demo I'd wait a while before buying Early Access.

Planet Explorers is well worth it if you like those sort of games. We just got steam keys but the community and dev support has been strong for a long time.

I was looking at it, but wanted to hear from someone on Blues who has actually played it. What's it actually like?

Go to their website and they have a free earlier alpha you can try - it says free demo. I tried it and it's interesting but waaaaaay to early to tell.

Nice to see Wargame Red Dragon on that list.
Also Banished is doing really well, it's on the top 10 list every single week since it came out.

Yeah, I think there's a hunger for proper city-builder games.

And it's most definitely not sated by Banished.... kinda sad the genre is so dead though. I want a proper futuristic city builder, or maybe a real medieval one. Sort of like Tropico, just with a more dynamic element and much more challenge. Banished bored me to tears past 2 hour mark (played 1 game, year 30, seen everything) no idea what people find challenging about this game. It's only "difficult" because it doesn't tell you anything. And the only challenge would be to somehow max out how many citizens you can have...

The game developer says
Surviving the winters will be among your greatest challenges

And that's simply not true. Winter is easy... and boring. Which is pretty dang odd, you'd think Winter could be made to be really fierce... but here it's just a texture swap and some buildings not working.. whoooohoooo the challenge... ;p

And the economy is a joke, no product chain longer than 2 steps... challenging? For children maybe

** then again, I can see the allure.. but I want MORE Banished doesn't do it for me.. sigh, back to Anno

It's basically a better looking minecraft with actual quests (npc's) and a massive exploration element. Laser guns, whacking monsters with swords, and the usual resource hunting by mining, though you get a proper scanner that tells you where to mine.

You can build your own vehicle designs, and I do mean literally. Which is a pretty neat fluff feature And aside that, crafting, farming, hunting and so on.

As Axis said, if you like that sort of game you will like this (once it's done) currently lots of things are not complete (obviously)

I wouldn't say sick... just stupid. So expensive for something so... lame.

Oh, so you bought it and played it and didn't like it? That sucks.

I think you assume too much. It's pretty common for people to bash games they've never actually played. Silly, yes, but common.
Indeed, like Thief, Titanfall and anything not AAA

I was calling the subject matter (South Park) lame (oh I watch the show and enjoy it, its still lame and childish shit, I did not choose my sense of humour). I made no comment about the gameplay, obviously.

I dunno the details of the deal but they must retain full creative control and some other plums with merchandising and games. Seeing as they're estimated to be worth about 300 million...each...it must have a been a pretty sweet deal.

As well as their production company, that puts on the broadway show - Book of Mormon. $19 million a month.

Well Comedy Central owns South Park. I don't know whether Trey and Matt have a percentage or if they get paid salaries, but they really don't have control over the property at all. Hence all the shitty games they had nothing to do with 10+ years ago. Which makes it all the more impressive they were able to arrange for Stick of Truth to happen, and go about it the right way.

Yeah, can't wait to play, just can't afford full price.

I get why some people don't like SP. Still it's some of the best satire of modern society ever made. There's a reason it has hung on for 20 years.
