MS Planning DirectX 12

Microsoft has launched a new DirectX blog and DirectX 12 Twitter account indicating another version is in the works, with the motto on the Twitter account stating "#DirectX12 is coming... follow us for the latest news." This contradicts other indications they might be phasing out the API collection. This goes along with a GDC 2014 Session titled "DirectX: Evolving Microsoft's Graphics Platform (Presented by Microsoft)." Here's word on DirectX 12 from the session summary:

For nearly 20 years, DirectX has been the platform used by game developers to create the fastest, most visually impressive games on the planet.

However, you asked us to do more. You asked us to bring you even closer to the metal and to do so on an unparalleled assortment of hardware. You also asked us for better tools so that you can squeeze every last drop of performance out of your PC, tablet, phone and console.

Come learn our plans to deliver.

has this been in the works for awhile? i'd like to think that if nothing else, Mantle at least spurred MS to get off their asses.
Yep! Embarrassing to MS that another API can bring in that much more performance.

That's more on a general note.
What have they done that's been successful?
Well for example posting record revenues despite pushing out
mediocre products!
Now look at Sony, great product, grim outlook...

Microsoft and their underwhelming efforts to achieve costumer satisfaction.

Yeah! They need to stop pandering to the rubber mask market!

MS always performed best when under fire. Writing them off as irrelevant is just naive. They are so deeply entrenched in corporations they aren't going away for 50 years minimum. Unlike in the volatile consumer market...

What have they done lately that's been successful?

And most corps aren't using DX.

It'll probably be windows 8 only, as microsoft tries to strong arm people into upgrading.

Yeah, I remember the Dx10/Vista push. I got shitloads of flame for even daring to suggest that Dx10 being exclusive to Vista was sales pitch bullshit for their bloated piece of shit OS. A lot of MS fanboys on these boards back then...

That reminds me, I need to order some Win7 OEM licenses before they go away...
Truth is brutal. Prepare for pain.

If they did use strongarm tactics, not even DX12 could get me to upgrade from Windows 7. Windows 9 better be "da shiz", or I'll skip that one too. DX10 didn't make me upgrade to Vista either... so it would be a real shallow attempt, if they try that shit again.

Microsoft and their underwhelming efforts to achieve costumer satisfaction.
I am glad people don't buy into their Windows8/surface/xbone/phone crap.
Microsoft needs a little shake up and refocus on their costumers.
They've been making all the wrong decisions for far too long now, it is time to wake the fuck up.
I mean what are they offering at the moment that is selling like hotcakes?

Office?
Xbone?
Win8?
Surface?
windows phones?

Not a single desirable software or hardware.
