Hey Franken, how about you worry about the US and Britain's promise to Ukraine? That's a hell of a serious issue that NO ONE is reporting here in the US...

Obama will as usual do nothing... even when there's an 'international law' that Clinton signed...

Not that I want him to, but he's such a terrible representative of our country it's sickening. But ya, he'll just keep being "deeply concerned" or "strongly discouraged" or some other useless statement he makes as he sits back and tries to forget he's in shoes way to big for his tiny feet.

Axis, you claim to have been in the military, so clearly you must know something about military affairs. Tell me this: what military presence do we have in Ukraine? What naval presence do we have in the Black Sea? How far away is the nearest US military installation of any size? How far away is the nearest US military installation of a size sufficient to support war in Ukraine?

The answers, respectively, are none, none, about 350 miles away in Bulgaria, and about 800 miles away in Germany. Think about this for a moment: we don't have any airbases close enough to Ukraine to provide a credible deterrent from the air. We could make a handful of aerial tanker supported air strikes as a show of moral support but that's about it. Likewise, the experience of the Gulf and Iraq War demonstrate that it takes months to build up a credible land based force on foreign shores, so the Army is out as an immediate deterrent. What about the Navy? Can't we just move a few battle groups into the Black Sea? IF we get permission from the Turks to cross the Bosporus, which is no sure thing, we could conceivably do so, BUT, the Russians already have a fleet, complete with ports to repair and resupply at, in the Black Sea. We would have to fight through a blockade of the straights to move a fleet into the Black Sea, and that fleet would have to deal with both the remnants of the Russian Black Sea fleet, and the Russian Air Force which has bases throughout the region.

So what does this mean? It means that military intervention on the part of the US/EU in the Ukraine to maintain its territorial integrity would necessitate a full-scale, medium-intensity war on land, on the sea, and in the air. Is keeping ethnically Russian, and Russian speaking Crimea a part of the Ukraine worth such a war to you? Or are you just interested in blustering and finding new ways to hate Obama?

Basically the one thing I have learned in the political sphere is that it is the fortune of governments when people do not think. Hitler said that, and others have alluded to how susceptible people are to manipulation (Orwell, Charlie Chaplin - The Greatest Speech Ever Made, etc.)

Leaders trick people, and that's what it comes down to. Power and wealth seems to impair judgement and common sense for the human brain. People KNOW how to manipulate others, media does it all the time. Most governments are morally bankrupt and can not fix their problems when they are deep rooted. The Roman Senate could not fix their problems, they just let everything persist.

The best thing to do is to not play along and live your life and just try to do good. And maybe someday humanity will unite like in Star Trek?

The US is the only country on the planet with troops occupying 150 countries. No one holds a torch to them for the amount of countries they've invaded or created coups in for the last century. So their posturing over the Ukraine comes off as rather hypocritical to the rest of the planet.

True, Guam was a bad example. Japan, for instance.

I'm sure if Obama breaks the law, the Republicans will impeach him. They've been waiting for the slightest whiff of an excuse since he took office.

As for taking on Russia, not even Bush & Cheney would be that crazy.

"Not that I want him to, but he's such a terrible representative of our country it's sickening."

It's a shame that you live in such a delusional reality. Obama isn't the greatest president, and there are a lot of issues to call him out on like his use of drones, his war on whistleblowers, and the NSA spying stuff. But he's far from the worst president, and has done fairly well having inherited the worst economic crisis since the great depression and having to deal with a Republican party hell-bent on opposing him at every turn, an unconscionable position given the state of the economy. The Repubs even oppose their own ideas (healthcare individual mandate) and sometimes even vote against legislation that they introduced when the POTUS comes out in favor of it. The fact that liberals scream bloody murder at a lot of Obama's proposals or negotiations should clue you into the fact that he's not a commie pinko socialist.

Everyone has reported on it in the U.S., it just didn't become a major news point until Russian troops showed up there.

Show me the headlines that proves it's been news here. There are none on any of the major news sites. And it has nothing to do with what I want him to do, what he does with our treaty is his catch 22...

Are you on crack? This is front page news on every news site on the planet... and the USA has zero moral ground to complain as they are one of the biggest War Pigs on the planet. As it stands right now all the Russians have done is secure their assets in a country that's falling into disarray. You telling me if say Guam fell into civil war the USA wouldn't use troops to secure their assets?

1914 is where it all truly began. WW1 was going to end quickly due powers on both sides already becoming bankrupt, until the U.S. injected themselves in.

And as far as current global issues go, here is something I pulled from another site:

"Are the EU pussies really going to go to war with Russia to protect the Ukraine? The EU is good at covering up their insolvency by creating new debt to pay old debt. They have no balls. They will bluster and issue pronouncements and warnings. Putin will occupy the country and dare them to do anything. Obama will draw red lines and then go play a round of golf. The neo-cons are thrilled. This bullshit dispute that has nothing to do with the U.S. will be used as the excuse to increase Defense spending. It almost seems like it was planned this way."

Well, really, it goes back even further than that, to at least the Balkan Wars...which is perfectly apt in this case. If you review how the EU (mis)handled the Yugoslav Wars and the later role of the US, you see a pattern of inaction that goes back to the Marshall Plan. However, as I stated, Europe had difficulties with these types of issues dating back to the Balkan Wars that led directly to WWI. This of course was the beginning of the end of Pax Britannica. One could say that Napoleon laid the groundwork, there. Certainly the combination of nationalism and industrialization made these kinds of things inevitable, we're just still dealing with them because the Cold War set things back fifty years in Eastern Europe.

lmao... rival? Hardly.

Doesn't matter who comes out saying it's a bad deal for America. Every one of us knows that 2-5 years after agreeing to it, everyone who had a vote at the FCC will 'retire' to cushy 7 figure payoffs jobs at Comcast.

Franken wasn't talking about the Ukraine because he's part of the oversight on the merger that's in question here, and foreign policy and the U.S.'s adherence to a treaty with the Ukraine isn't really something a senator from Minnesota is going to be a big part of.

And as far as Obama goes, I'd think it's in the best interest of the people he represents to avoid going to war with Russia. I'm not sure what you want him to do at this point. It also has absolutely nothing to do with any one of the topics at hand here.
