Yup, completely agree. I briefly skimmed when the comments were down, then proceeded to be bored for the next three hours.

i would see an interesting story and wonder what you guys would say. Blues is better for its comments. Well, some of them, at least.

MS going with the famous salesman pitch of "by paying more you will save money". What if they knew OO would be better and cheaper, do you think they'd just honestly say it? Here is how MS can keep the gov't business and AND since they really are worried about gov't spending.... Sell it for 90% off. Everyone is happy.

Hahahaha! It's true, you do tend to get it from both sides, neither of which is necessarily justified. Lots of times you get crap for just stating the way things are, not necessarily opining on them.

Annnd welcome to the Internet! Unjustified angst for justified reasons projected unto unjustified victims to air justified grievances...ain't the world grand?

Well, true. But Blues tends to be a cut above. People often have reasoned arguments so I find I actually learn some things reading (and participating in) the debates here.

Yeah, my visits to the site were cut by about 70-80% knowing there'd be no comments to read.

Last I checked, Silicon Valley hadn't caused the world's biggest market crash since the Great Depression, hadn't caused millions of people to lose their jobs (in the US alone), and hadn't wiped trillions of dollars from people's retirement plans / 401(k)s.

But no, EVIL SILICON VALLEY. LARRY PAGE MAKES MONEY. Shakefist

What a fucking cuntstool.

Nor does Silicon Valley screw around with the price of material goods to intentionally gouge producers and consumers for easy profit. I'd call his article an apples to oranges comparison but that's unfair to the fruit representing Wall Street. Apples to Intestinal parasites? Yeah that seems apt.

But according to soulless psychopaths like Beamer, fleecing the public is just good business. If you don't like it you must be a commie or something!!!

Nvidia GPU shipments up and AMD down in Q4 2013.

That's odd, I thought AMD was selling out everywhere b/c bitcoin.

AMD had production problems due to filling console related hardware orders. They also lost many contracts with OEMs for laptops, Intel has been making up a lot of ground with its integrated graphics over the past few years.

Yeah, and their simple minds probably just thought "let's switch to Open Source to save money." LOL Yeah RIGHT! Good luck with that!

It's hard to say. I'm no fan of MS, but people are more efficient on what they're familiar with. Also, MS, for all its failures, does keep it's software up to date and fairly secure. On the other hand, MS Office is overkill for the vast majority of users. And at $500 or so a pop, it's a significant cost to install it on 10s of thousands of government computers. I think a proper CBA is in order to determine whether the move is a good one or not.

Outrage Over Wall St. Pay, but Shrugs for Silicon Valley?

How about because Silicon Valley does more than just push electronic money around? They actually make stuff that people use daily.

Also, anyone who knows the history of corporate salaries knows that it's Wall Street that pushed top level salaries from about 30x the average worker to 300x. No other industry had such high salaries until Wall Street started doing it.

I wish we had a Linux guy here...application server shit itself over too many open file handles, and who had to dig around the kernel parameters? This guy!

Why do you have a Linux server if you don't have a Linux guy? Confused

Because management won't pay for a competent sys admin, and me and my boss know enough to get things working (though not necessarily optimal). I'm not a sys admin, I'm a dba, so poking around os stuff doesn't leave me with warm fuzzy feelings.
