Take Two Financials - GTA5 Sells > 32M

Take-Two Interactive Fiscal Third Quarter 2014 results are online, with the usual eye-popping numbers that surround the release of a new Grand Theft Auto game, saying that Grand Theft Auto V has sold over 32.5 million units to date. They are raising their outlook for the full year, which they say will be record setting, and lay claim to being "the top video game publisher of 2013." Here are the big numbers: "For fiscal third quarter 2014, GAAP net revenue increased to $1.86 billion, as compared to $415.8 million for fiscal third quarter 2013. GAAP net income from continuing operations was $578.4 million, or $4.69 per diluted share, as compared to $70.9 million, or $0.66 per diluted share, for the year-ago period. As of December 31, 2013, the Company had cash and cash equivalents of $972.2 million."

Apparently the numbers were not good enough, the stock gapped down today, down over 9% today.
Truth is brutal. Prepare for pain.

And they'll be selling another one once it comes out on PC, assuming it isn't a terrible port. Actually managed to hold off and wait this time.

Mind you, 2013 was sort of a down year for movies. Only one movie grossed more than a billion dollars.
Uh, only 17 ever have. http://www.the-numbers.com/movie/records/
Yes, and most of those were in the last decade. 2012 had 4 movies over $1B, so only having 1 in 2013 is a down year.

You basically described a small part of Saints Row IV. GTA is the semi-realistic heist/crime family game while the Saints Row series has been the "what crazy shit can we put in next" GTA clone.

Not at all. Saints Row is cartoony, arcade, over the top style. I'll looking for a 'realistic' looking and feeling world that GTA does so well but sci-fi.

GTA: STAR WARS anybody?

I think I just had a tiny orgasm...

I played the heck out of GTA III and loved it, warts and all. I may be in the minority here, but I dont have a lot of interest in V. IV was a deeply -- to the core -- mediocre game.

Knew I should have bought TT stock last Jan, just not the gambler type.

Well, yes, TTWO is up 71% since 4 Jan 2013. So even in a hot year for the market they kicked ass. However, you are still down 25% if you bought it in 2008, as much as 30% down if you bought in 2005.

$400M domestic and another $800M foreign. It nearly doubled Iron Man 2's take, and was only $300M below The Avengers. As such it was the biggest movie of 2013 and made RDJ absurdly wealthy.

BOM Domestic

BOM Worldwide

Mind you, 2013 was sort of a down year for movies. Only one movie grossed more than a billion dollars.

That's alot of very high priced hookers with very large piles of coke on their backs. Reminds me of last tue....

Could it sell 50 million total copies* in it's life time? Who knows.

*fingers crossed for the PC version.

They definitely crushed Call of Duty Ghosts, but they don't/can't churn out a new GTA every year, so it's not quite on that level of cash cow.
