YouTube requires it though!
Only if you want to post comments on videos.
And that I do. Let's hope BN never gets taken over by Google and requires G+.

All Google accounts are Google+ now, aren't they? Or is it just all Gmail accounts (but I thought all Gmail accounts were Google accounts.)
Google accounts and gmail accounts aren't automatically Google+, but they ask you so damn often, most people either finally accept it so it quits asking or accidentally click the accept button when they're in a hurry and log into gmail. I access my gmail accounts using Thunderbird over IMAP, so I don't see the gmail interface that often. I have one for public use and one for private use. I had to log into my private use gmail account today to update a spam filter, and it tried to get me to sign up for Google+. I declined, but there's this big "sign up" button on the top right of the gmail web interface.

Also cancelled Google accounts, excepting Gmail which I'm migrating away from slowly.

Yeah, Google's whole 'do no evil' thing is pretty much laughable now. They're getting worse than Microsoft re: pushing shit and invading people's privacy.

I wanted to leave an instructional message on a Youtube tech video last night but I can't comment without a Google+ account. Fucking ridiculous.

All Google accounts are Google+ now, aren't they? Or is it just all Gmail accounts (but I thought all Gmail accounts were Google accounts.)

I like anonymity. I never know if I'm going to badmouth a company for doing something really stupid, only to end up interviewing there. YouTube has killed anonymity. I used to have an account I'd post comments with on occasion, but they tied to Gmail. Now, if I am logged into Gmail, which I almost always am, it defaults to that when I go to Google. Great. I don't want people knowing what videos I favorite, and I certainly don't want my comments tied to my real name.

I get they did it, in part, to limit all the really gross comments they got. But plenty of sites have Facebook logins, tied to Facebook accounts, using profile pictures that often feature toddlers, yet the users still threaten to rape celebrities that dared have a different opinion on what the best book of the past 5 years is.

Google - and every other major firm that data mines - should have to do the same. Yet, that's pretty hypocritical seeing what France is attempting to do now with spying on their own people.

And fuck Google and their G+ bullshit. If this guy is innocent I hope he sues the shit out of them. This is where companies go wrong. When you start trying to dictate what people want rather than listen to what they want. Everyone hates G+ and being forced into it. I know I've cancelled all my Google shit - except my gmail because too much shit is tied to it for now but I'll be getting rid of that too before long.
