SOE Considering Unified Subscriptions

A reddit post by John Smedly has thoughts from the SOE boss to changes in how premium memberships work in their MMOGs (thanks Gamasutra). At the end he reveals they are also considering a single consolidated premium subscription plan that would grant access to all their games:
We are considering (and are likely going to move forward with) a plan that means if you subscribe to one of our games you are a subscriber to all our games (this applies to PC titles only btw).. all for the current $14.99 a month. That's a benefit most companies simply can't offer because they don't have our portfolio of games. The goal would be to let you pick an item in each game you play. Some of you might say "well who cares..I only play Planetside 2. How is that a benefit to me?" My answer is simple - we've got a great lineup of games, some of which aren't announced yet that cater to a lot of players. We have EQN and EQNL coming along with other..... games... that PS2 players might just like :)

Just looked it up. EQN is sub free. Why would I pay a sub for it?

Sony removed a lot of restrictions that EQ2's F2P accounts had, but "gold" accounts still have a few perks. I don't have any information on EQN, but I imagine it would work the same way.

I don't think I've ever subscribed to an SOE game, but didn't they have this a while back, but it was $20, or $30?

I like this current plan though; I'm intending to look at EQN, and I'm hopeful it'll be the first EQ that I put in more than a week on : )

I thought EQN was going to be sub free?

EDIT: Just looked it up. EQN is sub free. Why would I pay a sub for it? Also, isn;t PS2 sub free as well? Do you just get extra stuff for letting them charge you every month?

I've been mostly playing PS2, but also had interest in DCUO in the past. Not so bad to get all of these games under one roof. Would have been nicer with some of their other games (Pirates of the Burning Sea before they pushed it off) but hard to complain if the next EQ is included. Not entirely sure what he means by "...games...that PS2 players might just like," but that also sounds good. As it stands it's $15 for a month sub which includes $5 worth of SC. Might keep my money until ESO is out, anyway...

None of these games is worth $15 per anymore. Even combined when you're playing a wee bit of this or that most likely. $5 is the limit now. I'm tired of everyone - not just games - trying to get into my pocket on a monthly basis. Particularly so many products and services out there really only warrant a one time purchase.

"SOE All Access" subscriptions exist right now for $20 a month. https://www.soe.com/allaccess/

The goals of our plan are very simple. Let players buy anything they want up to 2000 SC. [...] The goal would be to let you pick an item in each game you play.

I'm not sure if I am understanding Smedley correctly, but his future plan would be to allow subscribers to pick an item worth up to $20 from the SC shop in every game for every month subscribed? Seems like that would destroy their entire business model.

I'm sorry, but didn't we ask for this like 5-10 years ago? Also doesn't getting 1 item of each game hurt this more then just giving SC and letting us choose which game we play it in? Or is this just to make people feel like they have to try the other games and then SOE can claim more users in each... That being said I'd still have to see how much benefit you get from it, but 15$ is a nice starting point.

I believe it was 24.99. Which isn't too bad if you play more than one of these games but all I ever played was EQ until EQ2 came out then I switched over and never went back.

Yeah I don't remember the cost but they did have a membership at one point that'd give you EQ, EQ2, PS, SWG and a few other of their smaller ones all together.
