Spider-Man: Friend or Foe, Spider-Man: Web of Shadows, Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions, Spider-Man: Edge of Time, X-Men: The Official Game, X-Men Destiny, and X-Men Origins: Wolverine have now been removed from storefronts. If you have a desire for any of these games, it's recommended that you secure a retail copy as soon as possible. It's likely that no additional copies will be entering retail channels.

Does no one remember the incidents of Amazon removing books people purchased and downloaded to their Kindles?

It isn't similar to what this situation is (though there are enough posts implying as much), but people shouldn't be surprised at how things play out in an era where the copyright and patent systems, which were created to foster progress and protect culture for society in general, are used as weapons by corporations to exclude people from accessing the very culture they are supposed to have a right to.

Because a) PC games haven't had a retail presence in eons and b) there are a bunch of digital outlets. Who wants everything to be DLC when PSN and XBL and their shitty pricing are the only storefronts?

Digital console sales are the lowest at only about 12%. More people (about 23%) still buy used. It's even lower in Europe. If you think 100% of games will be exclusively available through digital distribution in even the next ten years you are hopelessly misinformed.

If console-makers provide sufficient incentive for people to adopt digital over physical, the same transition will inevitably occur in the console market.

The point is that yes, they can do that but to what end? I hope folks understand that the day Steam starts removing games from libraries with abandon is the day Valve destroys the very reputation is has as the premiere digital distrubtor, not just from consumers but from devs/publishers as well. Millions upon millions of dollars it would cost Valve. I do not think it would be in their best interest to screw over customers and in turn, the industry.

You do realize that before long you won't be able to play any games at all if you insist on not buying via digital distribution, right? I can absolutely guarantee you that before the death of the PS4 and XBox One we will see the death of game discs sold at retail. Everything will be sold via Live or PSN for their respective consoles.

With ADSL copper lines are pretty fast. You may have to wait several hours but thats not the end of the earth is it - Unless you wish to push the buy button then have the game 10 mins later.

Why? If you bought it before it was pulled you still own it and can still download it anytime. They're just not selling new copies. And this isn't just affecting Steam. It was pulled from every digital store for every platform.
Steam has the right to remove a game from your library at any time, it's stated in the terms. we're only renting out games. it's been discussed in Blue's News comments sections on many occasions.Redmask wrote on Jan 2, 2014, 13:07:
So you don't buy Xbox games either? They can be pulled the store shelves or removed from the on demand service which has happened before.
no, not from the xbox online marketplace. only get physical. and on Steam only games I play are Valve ones (because i have to).

On a slightly related news, the Fallout Collection seems to be gone from Steam as well, or at least you are unable to buy Fallout 1, 2 and Tactics anymore.
