Yep, game is a piece of shit

Yep that video saved me from wasting money. I've removed Nether from my Wishlist. I bought State of Decay during the Autumn Sale, but it runs like crap on my system. So I can't even speak for how that survival game is. The minimum specs they list, really shouldn't be the minimum specs.

Between WarZ, Infestation, DayZ and now Nether...the idea of a good/fun survival zombie game is beginning to look like it won't happen. I'd like something between Dead Island and DayZ gameplay wise, without microtransactions, without player griefing...the first to do it, will get my money.

I am in the same boat - although crude to the eyes, 7 Days to Die is fun. In it's early stages and over priced - keep an eye on it. I have spent some time in it and find it fairly enjoyable.

I don't think you can make a game like DayZ without griefing. The whole appeal of DayZ is its freedom. No arbitrary rules or restrictions. Removing PvP or limiting it to certain areas would ruin that. Humans are and always will be the biggest threat in a post-apocalyptic scenario. The interactions between survivors are what make zombie fiction interesting.

I do think that these games need to offer more incentives for players to cooperate and not just kill each other on sight. I think the ability to craft things and build structures would help provide that. Trying to clear out and then build fortifications to secure a town by yourself is essentially impossible. But a group of players working together could do it if the game provided the necessary systems.

Incentives are a must-have, indeed. That, and maybe "careers" -- although that's the wrong term for a post-apocolyptic game. Make it "post-careers" then. There are post-engeneer players, post-nurse players, post-soldier players you name it. This alone makes people want to team up and achieve the potential group-dynamic the game has to offer with all its advantages. Engineers can make weapons "cheaper" with less parts and construct alarmsystems and other defensive stuff. Nurses or medics can heal wounds etc "cheaper" and with better effectiveness. Soldiers have stronger endurance and accuracy and maybe have some sort of "sixth sense", revealing nearby danger on the minimap of everybody close to the soldier. Etc. Etc.

Fuck me... looking forward to this game that's not in development :\

While I'm not opposed to player versus player interactions, it is possible to make a game that penalizes players for straight up griefing. Without some major deterrence, most players will simply devolve to shoot first PvP instead of working together. So I think we are saying the same thing.

My understandings of the current games in this genre, they do not provide an incentive for cooperation.

Something that would be a lot of fun, is if a player loses their humanity with each player they kill, becoming weaker each time, eventually becoming a monster themselves and playing as that monster until they are killed. There would need to be more to it, providing a way for players to gain humanity by peacefully interacting with players, etc.

Enh no good sales yet on any of my wishlist stuff anywhere. Meh bleh.
Saw this message:
Many many many people have bough this game and cannot get it to sync to steam. We have followed all the advice of the helpful other posters - to no avail - you cannot log into the game. Whether this problem is striking all players are just a fair number is not known. This is a real Buyer beware at this point. Even if you jump through all the hoops and the nether site itself tells you that you are linked to steam - you still may not be able to log in. Hopefully this is resolved - but for the time being you could be joining a growing number of people who have paid money but can't log into the game.

Consider this before buying during this sale.

To sync your account with Steam from the Nether website pop up at the top you with see your User Name and Log Out under that? Click your User Name and enter the info if it's not already filled in and click Sync with Steam or whatever it was button. Just follow a few easy instructions and you're in. Took me a while to figure it out. Think they must have made a change to the website or something because there is no Account button on that main page. And the account button on the support page doesn't take you to your account.

Either way it looks better than the WarZ/Infestation crap. And probably better than DayZ also. But the real gem will be The Division. That one looks to be the best survival game coming in the near future.

Edit: Damn it all to Hell. I wish I would have read the entire thread and watched twice as many videos from YouTube. I watched several Lets Play type videos but none of them really touched on the problems. Also I hadn't seen WarZ (what is now Infestation) in so long I forgot what the interface looked like. Either way Steam better give me a refund. I think it is total bullshit that they themselves are not policing this type of behavior. This is just a reskinned game. That Worth A Buy? video nails it. Speaking of DA2, has those DLCs (or Bioware points) ever goes to sale?
I want to have complete experience from ME2, but paying 5-6 times more for the DLCs for 3 years game feel ridiculous.

Bioware DLC basically never goes on sale. Annoys me to no end.

Anyone got input on Project Zomboid? Loks like a fun game. Takes what I love about zombie and these types of games and molds them into an old school format.....

I bought it about a year ago when it was only on their site and Desura. I had a lot of fun with it back then. It was fun sneaking around, crafting, looting, exploring etc. I never did get far enough to build a base or fortify a shelter. My only complaint back then was the loot was static, you would always find the same items in the same places. They were quick with new builds back then, and then kind of faded. Now that they're on Steam it's seen several updates, but I haven't played it recently.

The last time I played it was a big update right before they went on Steam and it was almost a completely different game. They ramped up the difficulty to the point where I didn't have fun. There were too many zombies, so as soon as I stepped out of whatever building I spawned, I was immediately swamped. They were way too aware and I couldn't sneak past them and couldn't lose them once they started chasing me. There is a sandbox mode where you can tweak everything from the type of zombies (fast/slow), to their awareness and the number and frequency of spawn though.

I did fire it up after activating my Steam key, but I didn't have time to start a game. There have been more updates since then and a new map. I think they added the story mode back, or they were talking about it. There is a demo, but I don't know how up to date it is compared to the version owners have.
