DICE Pauses All Future Projects for BF4 Repairs

DICE is "not moving onto future projects or expansions until we sort out all the issues with Battlefield 4," an EA representative told IGN when asked about ongoing issues with the shooter sequel. "We know we still have a ways to go with fixing the game it is absolutely our #1 priority. The team at DICE is working non-stop to update the game." They say the China Rising expansion was "already in the final stages of development by the time issues began with Battlefield 4," in explaining the expansion's release. "We know many of our players are frustrated, and we feel your pain," EA says. "We will not stop until this is right."

What's most disappointing about BF4 is that the main reason I and anyone I know play it is because of how poor all the other military shooters are. I enjoy these types of multiplayer shooters but lets be honest, if BF4 is the best of the crop (CoD, MoH, etc...) it's a sad situation for shooters, since although the best, BF4 is extremely mediocre in nearly every aspect and even more so when you consider where the franchise came from. Things like head-glitching, poor level design, balancing issues, network performance will NEVER be patched out, we need to accept that these are the trade-offs for 'Frostbite' and DICE development practices.

This comes from someone who's owned and played every BF game released by DICE. BF4 was the first Battlefield game I didn't pre-order, the only reason I even purchased it before X-mas is because of the Origin Mexico trick that gets you the game (and/or_premium) for pretty much 40% off.

PS. We don't need lip service DICE, we know you're not working around the clock, we know you're not putting off other money-making projects on hold (EA would spank you repeatedly for this). Just own up to the fact that you rushed out a half-assed game and don't care if your fans are mad or not. Oh wait, a scope for a pistol and imaginary extra XP ought to fix everything, I almost forgot.

Have I missed something? What's wrong with BF4 in its current state besides a few tiny bugs (every game has them even in late stages of patching)? It never crashes for me and people don't seem to drop out of servers anymore for disconnections...

I am finding that people downplayed the issues the PC version of this game has. While not as disastrous as the console releases the PC version still has a lot of problems. I've had many servers bomb out, the client crash dozens of times, sound loop hardlocking, sound literally disappearing mid-round in some maps and other oddities. When you can play its fun and I think the default maps are better than BF3 ones pre-B2K. There are some glaring issues they should have cleared up before releasing any fucking expansions and no I don't care whether they were in development before or after release.

I have the exact same experience, BF4 hard locking a Win 7 box w looping sound. How do you even do that? I thought my old 2500K wasn't overclocking so well anymore. Or the 460 GTX SLI finally needing swapping out. Tuned everything back, but still seeing issues.

With all this BS I have ever even noticed the one shot problem. I can only hope the major issues are on their radar. Pretty weak hope.

Horrible decision! These people are after money! They are greedy! How dare they! :)> Yes, this post is full of Christmas sarcasm. Good decision, Dice.

So I guess they're never working on another game ever again? Because I wouldn't hold my breath - I still can't get BF3 to load properly every time.

Fuck these assholes.

You know, apart from that one we just released. Other than though, we're gonna fix everything! Until we decide to do another expansion pack.

"We know many of our players are frustrated, and we feel your pain," EA says. "We will not stop until we can sell you more broken shit."

pmsl....you know damn well that's what they're thinking.

I've been playing for about a week now and I haven't had much issues either. I did crash a few times last night but other than that it's been pretty smooth.

Just for what it's worth, it's not all bad for all PC players.

The real issue with this crap is that it begs the question why we needed BF4 at all. BF3 really just hit its content maturity point this year. Why does BF need a 2 year cycle? This doesn't seem to be helping the product.

And that is exactly why I voted with my wallet and didn't buy it. I had a lot of fun with BF3 when they finally ironed out all the issues and it finally matured to the point of an 'almost' polished game. Now we all have to pay out money again to go through all the BS again? No thanks......

I lost over 70k in a single game. That was the last straw for me. It was my best game yet in bf4. Game over for me.
I think it's interesting that you'd describe your best game as the one where you got a lot of XP, and get mad over losing the XP, rather than describe your best game as the one where you had the most fun (and no server crash can take that from you). I think it's sad that gamers these days play Battlefield games to unlock guns and earn XP instead of to do the thing that has made the series great since BF 1942, which didn't have any unlocks.

When I said "my best game", I was referring to my score and not my level of enjoyment. I tend to enjoy pretty much every game when it's not crashing. The points just add another layer of enjoyment for some of us.

You are right though, it is sad. These games have become more like work in that we have to score points in order to unlock the gear that we want to use.

When a person scores 74,540 points and gets all psyched because he just unlocked 4 things and got 3 medals in one game only to have it all erased with a crash, it is sad. It's more than sad, it's down right f&^%ing annoying especially since I have probably lost a half a million points or more since launch. It was so annoying because the game just ended, showed me my scores and then the server crashed. I had another game where I lost over 50k from a server crash. It can take 5-10 games to score 74,000 points sometimes. I understand what you're saying but games have changed a lot since BF 1942. I actually grew to enjoy the unlock system because it gives me goals to work towards but when my time is wasted constantly and I have to unlock the same items 6 times before it sticks, it's time to find something else to do. Hell, I got promoted to level 6 five times due to the crashing. I tried to be patient but I'm done.

In this case people often jump to blame the end user and their configuration so let me head that one off at the pass. I keep a virgin Windows 7 and even a Windows 8.1 disk image for just this reason so that I can rule out issues and troubleshoot more effectively. I've tried on board vs sound card, no antivirus vs AV and even tried playing on a lesser but still capable PC. It's just the game being very buggy and inconsistent, sometimes I'll go a day without any problems and the next day its nothing but issues.

The real issue with this crap is that it begs the question why we needed BF4 at all. BF3 really just hit its content maturity point this year. Why does BF need a 2 year cycle? This doesn't seem to be helping the product.

The state of BF4 is an interesting achievement considering it's just BF3.1.

I never understood why they'd introduce a 3rd party web browser into their game's ecosystem. It's completely outside your control and can be configured in an infinite number of ways.

Yeah, comments like this is obviously just marketing speech. It's not as if the entire company grinds to a halt while a small team of programmers scratch their heads. At most, a couple of extra programmers got retasked/assigned to the BF4 team, though depending on the issues they're facing, there could very well be only 1-2 people at all of DICE with enough in-depth engine knowledge of the specific problem areas to actually do anything useful within a reasonable time-frame. Any delayed content releases will probably mostly be for appearance's sake, as work on content/assets continues uninterrupted..

No kidding since EA bet the farm to throw out what 15 titles using the engine? Dam well better be fixed then. Be like rolling out a website to buy insurance and it doesn't work out of the box since you went with the cheapest contractors to do it.

And EA pushing out unready programs? Next you're gonna tell me the sky is blue too.
