No Wheel Support for NFS Rivals

EA Support has more bad news for racing game fans looking forward to the Windows edition of Need for Speed Rivals, indicating the game will not support any driving-wheels or other peripherals (thanks DSoGaming). This follows indications that the driving sequel will be capped at 30 FPS. They say, simply: "Need for Speed Rivals will not support any driving-wheels or other peripherals."

They should just keep this series on the consoles. I don't think the PC version sells that well, and they don't seem to give too many shits about making a proper PC port so why bother.
There are better alternatives on the PC from indy devs if you want some racing action.

But what is stupid is the PC is out selling the consoles for them right now. How about do it right and bring over some of those console exclusives so the platform that brings you the most cash, gets the most love??

It is locked at 30fps, any attempt to unlock it results in the game's speed increasing along with the frame rate, making it unplayable and causing the physics to go haywire.

No, no, Mechwarrior 3 has this physics issue, too, and that was 1999.

The PC version is defective by design. It is locked at 30fps, any attempt to unlock it results in the game's speed increasing along with the frame rate, making it unplayable and causing the physics to go haywire. Initially I went into this video looking to show that but I ended up being so frustrated by how much of an idiot this game thinks you are that I focused on that instead. Avoid until fixed.

In other news...

-NFS Rivals only supports keyboard input.

-Next EA games won't support integrated sound chipsets, no sound? Go cry to mommy!

I can see it...

Looks like EA wants to make damn sure they clinch the "Worst Company in America" award again this year. As far as I'm concerned, this was the winning vote.

I laugh though because Slightlymad Studios, who created NFS: Shift 2 Unleashed under the corporate iron umbrella of EA, has created Project CARS, with community funding, OUTSIDE of EA's slimey hands. Project CARS, even in alpha, is already poised to crush the absolute shit out of anything EA has ever produced in the past, or ever will produce in the future. Project CARS is the community's way of saying "Fuck you EA. Your filthy money and misguided, corporate buffoonery is not needed here."

Mafia 1 (released in 2002) had wheel support, force feedback, manual shifting and even clutch support, in 2002, in a third person game..

While no wheel support "makes sense", you can usually easily get a racing game to recognize the axes on your wheel and use it anyway. But there won't be any force feedback, which isn't a big deal in arcade racers anyway.

The lock at 30fps will hopefully get patched out like they did with The Run. While I didnt enjoy that game even at 60fps, it was miserable at 30. The camera shakes at high speed, which makes trajectory planning incredibly difficult. If it held still, 30fps may have been playable.

A couple recent-ish racers locked at 30fps had good reason for it (Split Second and Forza Horizon), and compensated for it properly. Only one of those came to pc, and its excuse is actually quite reasonable. I have seen nothing in NFS Rivals that counts as a good excuse. H

It is so easy not to buy EA games these days.

I can't think of the last one I bought. Maybe Hot Pursuit (and not the classic Hot Pursuit that was awesome, but the more recent one)? And even that I got for cheap on steam.

The problem isn't that NFS Rivals doesn't support wheels; it's that it's such an arcade game that trying to support a wheel would be a silly idea.

Rivals seems like a decent game despite its obvious technical limitations, but I really wish they EA would just chill out on the NFS and diversify. Go back to Burnout and have Criterion make one. Go the sim route and get some crazy sim company to make one with the proper car licensing to get the best of both worlds (physics/realism AND a stable of great licensed cars to drive).

Of course, NFS sells the vast majority of copies on consoles, so that's where they'll focus most of their attention. (And I kind of doubt that supporting wheels and 60fps will shift that balance away, as the arcadey design does prove to sell more copies overall when you add up all the platforms, and the console gamers' money spends just as well as PC gamers' money does.)

Shift was awesome, but I don't think it had anything to do with Need for Speed, I could be wrong though.
Shift carried the Need For Speed name also, however the developers (Slightly Mad Studios) were different from most of the other NFS games.
They are now working on their own game called Project Cars, which looks really awesome by the way.

All I have to say is, Thank God for Codemasters.

Also I really enjoyed NFS Shift. Which I played with my wheel and pedals. At 60 FPS. Just sayin.

This whole mess is something that Bugbear should take up and put out a checkbox graphic showing how much a true PC driving game it will be.

Give money to Bugbear, not EA
