Of course the PS4 is sitting in the same boat right now.
Take this as you will, we'll see if it's actually true.
"Sufficient supply" probably means something different to Sony than it does to consumers. I mean at this point you can't pick a random store that carries game systems and just expect to find the PS4 sitting on a shelf. If you really wanted one you pre-ordered it otherwise I suspect the chances of finding either console in a store is going to be pretty hit-and-miss through the holidays. Which I don't really mind since nothing in either console's exclusives list at launch screams "gotta have it!"
Here's a fun flashback.

Yeah because no one has been pre-ordering them!

Nah its already sold out everywhere. Of course they had a lot of supply problems which might explain that but I'm sure both consoles will sell out in the short term. I'm curious to see if this gen will have the same level of growth because the industry is in trouble if the trends of the past few years continue.

Ya ok I see that now...
When your PS4™ arrives, just look for the PS4™ Digital Upgrade version of the game on PlayStation Store – it will appear in the 'PS3 to PS4' section of the PlayStation®Store on your PS4™ Free of charge. Just download it and start playing!
... looks like free from that blurb. But it's just free to DL after you purchase it, marketing doublespeak.

Not sure if it's been posted already but I noticed in the PSN store if you own a copy of a game on the PS3 and that game comes out on the PS4 you'll be able to DL the PS4 version for free.
They have an upgrade program, but it's only certain titles and they're $10 a pop. And you need the ps3 disc in the drive to play.
