Need for Speed Rivals PC Capped at 30 FPS?

German site PC Games Hardware reports that the upcoming Windows edition of Need for Speed Rivals will be capped at 30 FPS. They have a couple of screenshots for the PC edition of the racing sequel in action to help you decide if its visuals justify the performance hit. Thanks DSoGaming.

The guys doing game design for NFS lately are just balls. How the hell could you not get most wanted sequel correct? Getting criterion to do most wanted 2K13 was a huge mistake.

NFS has just been getting shittier

NFS UG1 > pretty good
NFS UG2 > Good to mediocre, the open world bit fucked up the pacing.
Most wanted > Fucking beautiful.

> Carbon = balls
> Undercover = balls
> Prostreet = mediocre/average
> Shift1+2 = shitty sims that got nothing on NFS: PU.

The last good NFS games were High Stakes and Porsche Unleashed. Those games were fucking AMAZING. I can't believe it's been almost fifteen years and they still haven't put out a decent sequel to them.

EA: NOBODY WANTS AN ARCADE RACER, ESPECIALLY PC GAMERS. And 30pfs?? Fuck that shit! My PC will easily do 130fps with this shitty game. Go the fuck out of business already. >:\

Dude if you thought most wanted and underground 1 + 2 were crap there is something wrong with your brain. I enjoyed PU but high stakes wasn't all that great. Most wanted + PU are the pinnacles of NFS series. PU did the blend of simulation and arcade perfectly. Most wanted did the cop chases beautifully.

If you've checked out NFS world lately there is a new mode that is fucking amazing.

Says you! I love arcade racers. Give me one of those and a PC version of Wipeout for when I get tired of the former.

I loved High Stakes, but haven't played a NFS game since then. I'd been thinking about picking one up based on that experience, but sounds like I'd only get disappointment. Good to know.

Also I'm not surprised by the FPS cap. It's hard for EA to hear the muffled screams of angry customers when it has its head up its ass. Sometimes I wonder if they just like fucking with gamers for the fun of it. All this time we've thought they were just incompetent, when they've just been trolling everyone. That'd go a long way to explaining Sim City 4 and Spore.

What? Most Wanted wasn't capped at 30 FPS, neither was Hot Pursuit. The Run was capped at 30, though they eventually patched that out.

Worst company in America.

Interstate'76 was not a racing game.

There was racing involved.
Maybe but most of it was still automotive combat. I still have the original boxed game.

Either a design carry over from the "next gen" consoles and or it's locked at 30fps for multiplayer syncing as I'm pretty sure it's peer-2-peer match making.

I am perfectly fine with strategy games at 30fps, and I can even put up with action games at 30fps. But a racing game at 30fps is absurd; it is the genre that absolutely benefits the most from higher framerates.

Locking the fps of a PC version makes absolutely no sense to me.
They set up the engine with the assumption of a fixed time per frame because they targeted consoles first. That's not rare for console games, but it's pretty bizzare in a PC port.

Everything playing at a solid 60Hz is probably my favorite part of playing multiplatform titles on the PC, never mind the increased resolution and everything else. :\
