New WHQL GeForce Drivers

The GeForce website now offers new version 331.65 WHQL-certified drivers for NVIDIA GeForce graphics cards. Here's word on all the newness these bring:

The new GeForce 331.65 WHQL driver is now available to download. An essential update for all GeForce GTX users, 331.65 WHQL is the Game Ready driver for Battlefield 4 and Call of Duty: Ghosts, and includes the Batman: Arkham Origins optimizations introduced alongside 331.58 WHQL last week. With 331.65 WHQL, you’ll receive a great gaming experience from day one with the latest driver tweaks and performance optimizations, including up to 12% extra performance in Battlefield 4.

Other titles benefit, too: Sniper Elite V2 performance increases by up to 19%, DiRT Showdown performance by up to 13%, Metro: Last Light performance by up to 9%, Sleeping Dogs performance by up to 9%, Max Payne 3 performance by up to 9%, and F1 2012 performance by up to 6%.

GeForce 331.65 WHQL also sees the introduction of GeForce Experience 1.7, which includes the long-awaited ShadowPlay Beta, an innovative gameplay recording tool that can constantly record the action with a minimal performance impact thanks to the H.264 encoder built into GeForce GTX 600 and 700 Series GPUs. For full details about ShadowPlay, and other new features of GeForce Experience 1.7, please check out our GeForce Experience 1.7 launch story.

Being old school, I've always went to Add/Remove and removed the old Nvidia drivers manually before installing a new ones.

This time I decided to let GeForce Experience do it's thing and update me. I didn't even have to reboot which was nice. I'm curious to see if allowing GeForce Experience to upgrade me will cause any problems down the road. I figure if it fails in some way I can manually remove and clean everything then go back to my old ways.

I had to rebuild my system this weekend after installing the last drivers? Long story, basically I installed the last drivers 331.58 in my GTX 580 & played games fine for about a week. Then one morning I woke up and while surfing my "Video driver failed & recovered". I thought this was strange so I rebooted & then started up a game of BF 3 played for 1 min & the game crashed with error "DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_HUNG: Device hung due to badly formed command". I ended up spending HOURS researching this problem & it seemed like everyone had a 100 different fixes with the same error? Long story short, I ended up rebuilding my box & that STILL didn't fix it. Then on a last ditch effort I opended the case & blew out all the dust bunnies & moved the card to the second PCI-E slot. Rebooted the PC & then I had to redo all my BIOS settings...GRR! I overclocked my proc with all the same settings as before & tested it....No problems....Pleayed some games...No problems...So far it's working great! I still dont know if it was the PCI-E slot or the dust bunnies?

*Upgraded my BIOS on my video card for the first time & that was a lot easier than expected!

*OMG Do you know their was was long 700 Win 7 patches to install!! Damn MS make SP2 for win 7!!!

I had the exact same problem with my soundcard.. one day I got a bluescreen with some cryptic error, I tried everything... nothing worked, couldn't even boot (would just hang). Then I switched slots for the soundcard which fixed it.... switched it back = worked.

I think it's dust getting into the slot somehow and doing *something*

All I know is they added the Beta of Shadowplay.

And it works beautifully. Much more simple than Playclaw or Open Broadcast, much smaller file sizes than Fraps. No slowdown at all from what I've tried recording so far.

I thank them for this.

Installed it just for shadowplay. And it works well for me. I played Batman Arkham Origins for about 5 mins with shadow play enabled and it didn't seem to affect the game at all. There still seems to be small issue with sound. The 5 minute clip I made, was missing some sounds here and there. Sometimes dialog or FX. It might be related to my sound settings being 5.1 and not stereo (since AFAIK there is not 5.1 sound recorder in windows). I didn't really play long enough, it was only 1 test. But it is nice, press alt-f10 (default shortcut) to save the last 5 minutes (default setting) about 1.5GB file @ 1080p.

I recently switched to Nvidia. How do the driver updates work these days? Do I just download the driver through the software center 'thingy' or do I have to completely remove my old drivers, erase all traces of them and install new ones?

The installer should remove the old ones. You can also optionally keep any settings you had setup.

And expensive.. some intern got probably fired over this.

Also.. the GTX 600 series has an h.264 encoder built into the GPU? WTF? Funny they mention that now, as x.264 encoding tools don't seem aware that my GPU apparently has a real-time h.264 encoder...

Two WHQL drivers in a row? That's pretty rare.
