Out of the Blue

My freefall picking NFL games continues, nailing the Chargers in an upset last night allowed me to squeak out a winning record for the week at 8-7, but I currently rank below their guest slot, which is, well, not impressive. The mediocrity is especially problematic: If I was a little below .500 I could justify making my picks out of a hat, and if I was losing most of my picks, I could just start picking the teams I think will win to lose, but as it is I guess I just need to keep relying on my judgment, as much as it has let me down so far.

Anyone tried Neverwinter Online? As long as it's not terrible, was thinking of giving it a try, but saw we have to install something called ARC. Now worried ARC is something like Origin.

Thanks

Neverwinter Online gave me a month or so of entertainment. Some folks might find it more entertaining, for me it just started to drag a bit. It wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be and some of the custom stuff people are doing with the Foundry are pretty fun. I imagine with an active guild that consists of D&D fans the game gets considerably better. I have only played it solo and an occasional PUG.

As for the ARC thing, its just a unified publisher updater for the most part. Like Blizzard or NCSoft have. No big deal really. I didn't realize it was mandatory now. I have Neverwinter, Champions, and Star Trek Online all on my gaming rig and I still don't have ARC installed. Must be for new installs only if it is required now.

I went 10-5 this week, my best so far...though I still sit here on the bottom of the ocean, ALONE, on the SS Giant Titanic...I won't abandon them, I'll just cry that much more when they lose again...geezus 0-6! Have the Giants ever started a season that bad before? Blows my ever-loving mind...

As for the loading issues on the PS3, I haven't had any problems with the texture pop-in other than a few times, mainly with the gas stations that you can't enter (the ones with just a texture for the front). Sometimes it will take until I start pulling away from it again to pop in. During the first heist and you drive through that big tunnel, I had some objects pop-in that I ran into which pissed me off but it wasn't something that broke the mission or made me lose. And a second run through (just to check) didn't have the problem again. Now, when you change characters and fly up and then back down, when they show your 'new' character, his surroundings take a few seconds to pop-in, which is a little weird, but it's only a short time and it's done. It might be just because it's the download version that you're having the troubles. You'd think that having everything installed on the hard drive would make it load faster, but for some reason it seems GTA5 is geared and optimized to load from the disc faster than on the hard drive. Hence the reason why they tell you not to install the second disc to the x360 hard drive. Kind of the opposite of what you would think would be the case... *shrugs*

Also, good read about that new option against MS. I lost a very, very good friend to MS, and watching her just dwindle away day after day was just awful.

I had an uncle die from MS, and now one of his sons has it. What an absolutely drawn-out brutal way to go.

Better off forgetting about it. The game starts out ok, but ends up shallow.

I think The Crew needed to be delayed just to get noticed.

The Crew was never scheduled to be released this year. It's always been a 2014 title.

Right, what I mean though was it was scheduled to be released in the "launch window" of Nov - March. Sorry, looking back that was not clear.

Ah, okay.

But it's still pushed back.

Right, but I meant that it's not delayed because of how many racing titles are getting released in November.

As of right now (just got off the phone with Amazon customer service), if you ordered the Watch Dog Launch Day Bundle, you will not receive your console until Watch Dogs is released in 2014. It's a developing story so the nice lady told me it's totally possible Amazon releases a statement in the next week. But, as of now you cannot switch bundles and you won't be getting your PS4 launch day if you pre-ordered the Watch Dogs Bundle.

Hooooooly shit. That's going to cause fucking MAYHEM. Are they serious? They're going to tell people "Yeah, fuck you, you won't get your console for SIX months???"

Apparently some other folks are saying that they've been told by amazon that their price is getting adjusted to just the console price, and no delay. So we'll see. Sounds like it very much caught them off guard.

Yeah, I saw a notify that they're just taking the game out and selling it as "console only."

I think the customer service lady got caught with her pants down and had to come up with an answer on the spot. They would have gotten lynched over that had their idea of "we'll get you your console in 2014" been true.

Anyone notice a lot of pop in or similar problems on the ps3? Was going to try again tonight, but pretty frustrated.

I haven't noticed a ton of pop in personally, the only times I noticed it was when I was playing yesterday (coincidentally, I believe it was with you guys). We were doing a 'Welcoming Party' escort mission and whoever was driving the limo in front of me vanished...only to re-appear moments before I smashed into their back.

Went 12-3 this week. woo! woo!

Playing some SP and MP in GTA5 on the ps3 the last couple days. Holy smokes does the ps3 have a ton of pop in and missing artifacts. I have the downloaded version, so one would think the data and such would be more responsive. I am glad I played it on the 360 first, as I would hae missed a lot of nice touches and things that for some reason aren't showing on the ps3 version.

When I did one of the first missions, my "employee of the month" picture was not even on the wall. In fact it never loaded in the 10+ times it would be shown in that instance. Trees are popping in, cars are popping in, and the landscape isn't loading as fast as the 360.

Anyone notice a lot of pop in or similar problems on the ps3? Was going to try again tonight, but pretty frustrated.

I don't have any of those problems with the PS3 disc version and I've seen the 360 for reference. I've heard other people had issues with the PS3 download version too, not sure what's going on there.

Yeah, that makes total sense, though. There is a crazy amount of racing games at launch. New Need for Speed, Forza, Driveclub...I think The Crew needed to be delayed just to get noticed.

Watchdogs? I don't know. I know it's open world, but so are a ton of games that are coming out. It appealed to me over the Pirate AC. (I love pirates, but more Johhny Depp less Etzio with a different costume.)

Yep, already had it ordered. Oh well, I'd rather they get it right than push something out half done.

Feel sorry for these folks. (Mine is a console only order, with the game ordered later.)

edit: Ouch, from a post there:

Ouch, that would suck.

I can't even really think of any other games that were must buy this season for me, though. Watchdogs was the one thing the PS4 had that interested me at launch.

Beyond: Two Souls is out, played and beat it. Fantastic. BF4, of course. Maybe the new Rocksmith. Guess I don't have to rush to beat InFamous 2 since Watchdogs isn't going to take its place. Bored with GTA V already. (Not a huge GTA fan, had some fun but not really my thing.) Actually picked up Midnight Club: LA complete because the racing is so much better than in GTA. (Cars are way too floaty in GTA V)
