SEGA Shoulders ATLUS' Burden

SEGA is stepping in to purchase the parent company of struggling developer and publisher ATLUS, as announced in this press release (Adobe Acrobat format). Word is: "Under the agreement, SEGA will take over the operations conducted by Index, the bankrupt company that applied to the Tokyo District Court for the commencement of civil rehabilitation proceedings effective from June 27, 2013" (thanks Destructoid). According to Kotaku, the price tag for this is 14 billion yen (USD $141 million).

I predict Persona 5 will be a grindy animu waifu simulator. Probably taking place in a high school.

Sounds good to me.

With that out of the way lets go ahead and make some predictions about Persona 5 and when it will be coming out ;).

If you don't like where gaming is heading, stop giving your money to the people who are taking it in that direction.

Does this mean we will finally get a new persona? Fucking travesty that the series skipped the entire current console gen.

Also the third version of the persona fighting game makes sense(when previous licensed fighters from the company never got sequels) since now they don't even have to pay a fee for the licence!

O god hope sega doesn't make the next persona a shitty handheld game like they did the valkyrie profile series. So conflicted by this news.

ATLUS makes some great admittedly niche strategy console games.

It should be noted that this purchase is actually being made by Sega Sammy
No, that's the old news that circulated this morning. According to the press release, Index is being acquired by SEGA Dream Corporation, which is a subsidiary created by SEGA Corporation for this acquisition.

It should be noted that this purchase is actually being made by Sega Sammy, Sega's parent company and they are purchasing Index, Atlus' parent company. This relationship does not make Sega the parent or owner of Atlus in any way and at best Sega is more like a sibling company.

With that out of the way lets go ahead and make some predictions about Persona 5 and when it will be coming out ;).
