Grand Theft Auto V Map Leaked

Forbes took some time off surfing the 'net for porn to check out reddit and dig up what is apparently a leaked map of Los Santos, the setting of Grand Theft Auto V. The article attempts to give perspective on the vast scale of the game world this map reveals. The console editions of the game are due one week from today. Thanks nin.

That image's map scale is totally out. Compare the houses above the city to similar sized houses on the other maps. Clearly the SA etc maps are half the size they should be. Same goes for the city blocks.

Hahaha what? I can't believe people are thinking this based on a scaled jpeg.

Well he'll own GTA V on Xbox, PS3, PC (whoops no), WiiU, Wii, PS2, PS1, Genesis, SNES, NES and Commodore so on all his systems combined that would make the map much larger?

I don't have WiiU....and I don't think the Commodore works anymore....

How big is the Skyrim map vs. this leaked map? This one seems small. Maybe the city just looks small because of the wilderness area and smaller towns/areas behind it. Is GTA IV bigger or small or same as this leaked shot?

Anybody know why Rockstar is making GTA V for X360/PS3 instead of Xbone and PS4, which will be able to produce much better quality and larger everything in the game?

Can you even run X360 games on Xbone? And PS3 games on PS4?

Here's Here's GTA SA, IV and RDR all scaled on GTA V's map and here's Skyrim.

And as to why launch on 360 & PS3 as contra One / PS4? It's a $250M game, that's why.

And no, there is no direct backwards compatibility on these consoles. Different architecture, different instruction set on the CPU. Nor would emulation be possible since there's not enough power on even modern day PC's to pull it off in realtime.

Scaling looks off.....

Bah, humbug. Open space is there to drive around in a Suburban while being chased by 16 police cars, and have some of the most hilarious crashes/flying-off-cliffs in history.

Here are some calculations that someome did. I think IV was around 10km^2

How reliable is that scale comparison?

'Cuz just at a glance it looks like the V houses are bigger than blocks on the other GTA maps, and there must be some big planes in V so requiring the runways to be about 2/3 the size of entire islands in the other games.

You mean $250M spent on a game needs a large user base, and Xbone and PS4 are not guaranteeing enough sales to make it worth it? You have to think that these new consoles willsell though. Or are console sales decreasing these days?
I think it's pretty much guaranteed that GTA V will eventually be released on the next gen consoles, as well as the PC. Those ports can be easily developed on parallel since the architecture is similar. But a game this huge has to turn profit quickly, and so yea, a large user base is pretty much a requisite for that from the get-go.

And speculating how the next gen will turn profit for the studios at this point is something only Pachter would do. We all know the economy is still in the tank and video game sales have been in decline throughout 2013. Still, your guess is as good as anybodys...

If they are working on PS4/Xbone releases as well, then that would be the reason for a PC delay. Same architecture, really.

Now, if companies with a PC release track record neglect to make PC versions for games that come out for the new consoles (minus exclusives), then they're truly sticking it to PC gamers.

Large empty areas are needed for flying other wise you'd pass over it in seconds.

Cannot speak to Skyrim and RDR maps, but for Liberty and old Los Santos the scale seems off... individual houses in the suburbs of new Los Santos are much bigger than their equivalent in the old one.

Still a big area though. It's going to be awesome if the framerate/draw distance holds up!

Yep, it looked and ran awful on my pc when it came out. Funnily enough, I didn't care that much at the time because I was still enjoying the game.

The people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same way in any country.

Yeah, at least MMOs have learned that lesson. A vast area of empty space isn't fun.

Are you sure GTA IV is to scale? San Andreas was bigger than GTA IV? No way I would guess!! But that guess is only based on that GTA IV came out after San Andreas and games usually get bigger in time I think.

IIRC yes SA was bigger than IV. R* even said that on IV's release.
