Steam Greenlights 100 Titles

A Steam Greenlight announcement informs us that Valve has given the greenlight to no fewer than 100 new games, boosting the number of titles with publishing deals from the program to 260. It's no accident that so many titles were approved this time, as Valve explains this is the result of how they've been refining the system: "This latest milestone is both a celebration of the progress we've made behind the scenes and a stress test of our systems. Future batches are not likely to be as large, but if everything goes smoothly we should be able to continue increasing the throughput of games from Greenlight to the Steam store." The large list of new games makes it difficult to list them all properly, so they put together this list to help sort this through.

Yeah I don't get what took them this long. And why 100. If you are going to do curation, do curation. If you aren't, just put a threshold on the damn thing and call it done.

Greenlight is so fricking weird.
Protip: Anything "weird" or lacking anyone sees about valve or any of their products or services is explained by one of these factors:
not fun and interesting
wheeled desks
flat/no management structure
gabe's "obsession" (his word) with employee health.

Curation isn't fun or interesting. Done.
Sorting through lots of drek to find a few good titles isn't fun or interesting, hence greenlight (they admitted as much in their press release about it). Done
Working on steam GUI (aka browse or letting you view library with categories that are already present in database) isn't fun or interesting. Done.
And since its flat/no management, no one to enforce getting any of the above done either.

Keep an eye on NEO Scavenger. I tried the beta last year and it's a very neat and challenging survival game. Picture an early 90's style RPG inspired by Cormac McCarthy's The Road and David Brin's The Postman.

It reads very similarly to Don't Starve.. seems there's a whole survival genre kicking up with indie titles lately?

No Hexxen, and no MechWarrior 2. Damn.

Were those submitted by those that own the rights to them? Random Internet User can't just nominate a game they want on steam...

And I'm going to assume "Hexxen" is different than Hexen (?), as it and it's sequel are already out there...

My guess is someone at Valve headquarters was rooting around the Steam backend and rediscovered the Greenlight program which had been sitting abandoned for months after everyone wheeled their desk over to L4D3.

One week later, oh yeah, here's a stress test(okay?).

Yeah, way too much crap. They need to get a lot more discriminating.

Nah, they just need a better search and browse system, including tabs.
Yeah, pretty much this. Steam already had tons of crap on it before Greenlight even existed (Bad Rats, anyone?). It just needs a way to sort through games better. Amazon.com sells a lot of crappy books but it's still a fine place to buy stuff. Steam needs curated storefronts that people can set up like they can set up lists of Greenlight games. That would help - find someone you trust, and check out what games they recommend.

The point of the greenlight program was so valve wouldn't have to do the not fun and interesting work of sorting through it all themselves. Its accomplished that goal. Valve doesn't much care if a lot of it is kinda crappy, people voted on stuff and they put it on.

New gift option in case the person has Snuggle Truck already?

Don't hate. Super Amazing Wagon Adventure is great.

Anyway, glad to see some much-deserved titles finally getting greenlit.

Just glancing through the list, there are a few stand-outs, but also a lot that just reek of crap. Such is the problem with opening the floodgates. If they're going to continue in this fashion, I think they should have a separate section of the store for Greenlit titles, like Xbox Live Indie Games.

Also, anyone else notice Shadow of the Eternals made it? LOL. Just goes to show you the kind of oversight [not] happening here...
