Quoteworthy: DICE on Lack of Annual Battlefields

"I think the core Battlefield idea that we're working on at DICE is... We can't build a game at DICE every year," Battlefield 4 executive producer Patrick Bach said during Gamescom according to Videogamer. "You saw with Battlefield 3, for instance, it's not that there's not an urge for more Battlefield. You mentioned Premium we [had] 18 months worth of Battlefield and people want more things during that time. Now it's been almost two years and people feel like they are continuously playing we still have huge amounts of players playing Battlefield 3. So I think in general, people apparently want Battlefield all year round."

The reason that battlefield games just crash out, is cos there are no mod tools to help them grow. That is why I never buy em anymore, no point, no map editor no buy!

Hardcore is a joke. It's either airsoft losers playing "tactical", snipers camping some remote bush or *gasp* skilled players quickscoping everything and one shooting noobs.

Hardcore is fine, you don't seem to know how to play it which is why Normal is there. Enjoy.

I'm not the one whining I can't find any servers.
No, you're just someone that needs to learn to read. The point about populated HC servers was that Bach is full of shit and that the population has diminished very significantly. There used to be hundreds and hundreds of populated HC servers over here back when B2K/AK was released.

These terms you keep throwing out like "whining", "quickscoping" and "airsoft losers" does more to demonstrate how utterly incapable you are of rational thought on the subject rather than demonstrating any kind of point you might have thought you had.

I play this game way too much, I know...

But to reply to that spray and pray argument, currently my favorite weapon is the ACW-R and I never use 1 shot mode. There is no point, even on hardcore, unless you are really really close, getting a first shot head-shot is extremely unlikely, you want 3 to 4 shot bursts. The ACW-R puts out 4 rounds in the time you fire 1. Which means you are suppressed, and I survive. Of course, there is a strong urge to just hold the click for a bit longer, by that time the ACW-R has put out 16 bullets and most of them in the scenery.... so burst fire ftw...

Either way, I am impartial to either modes. I can play good in HC and good in Normal, but the play styles differ drastically. Hardcore requires deep thought as to where I move in what posture and at what speed, in HC I also am usually running a full silenced engineer build, where as in normal I often play Assault or Support...

Silenced ACW-R that is. Sadly engineers don't have smoke grenades..

dude i have twice your time played and I feel like i don't play very often. I pretty much stopped, just waiting for BF4 now.

Well often in -my- scale of course Compared to you I am playing "rarely" ;p Still I don't suck at it, I just get very quickly bored of 1 game. And in case of BF3 there are sometimes weeks in between phases where I want to play again. 400 hours is the magical barrier that I barely reach when a MP Game I really want to play has been out for 2 years. And as you can see, I only recently got above 400 hours, just in time for BF4

I scratched 380 hours in BC2, and now 400 in BF3... when you think about it I guess 400 hours played over 2 years is not particularly much ;p But it's what seems to be my "level of playing" when it comes to MP shooters... although with Shooters, what I really mean is Battlefield.

Until they take the hackers seriously and stop outsourcing their anti-cheat Battlefield will forever be an also ran. Punk Buster is bullshit, everyone knows how to make a mockery of them.

Bring a team dedicated to good server security and good gameplay in-house and maybe you wouldn't be a fucking joke!

Hardcore requires skill and teamwork to succeed, BF regular is for hotdogs who just want to be johnny l33t. Actions have consequences, you run around like a chicken with its head cut off then you get what's coming to you. Regular BF is way too forgiving of bullshit.

And the dig at my skill? Who cares. I'm not great, but I don't suck either. I get killed a lot because I am trying to actually accomplish the objective while half of the team is usually just trying for a good KD ratio.

Right on man, his dig at your skill tells us all we need to know about his play style. All K/D ratio and personal glory, all the time. Not being 'bad' is more important than the team winning.

Like the "team players" that start screaming "THIS TEAM SUXORS!" when your team is losing, and yet are snipers with a 44/5 score who haven't once tried to help with an objective. They're never looking to cover the guy trying to get the MCom or CP, they're looking to get easy kills. But the team sucks.

The lower HP is the least important part of hardcore, even if it does help promote a more tactical way of playing by itself. No 3d spotting, no kill cam, no regenerating health/armor and friendly fire is what makes hardcore and why normal is a joke. I would never have played BC2 and BF3 at all if it wasn't for hardcore. Custom rule servers are too hard to find thanks to these presets and normal just isn't Battlefield anymore.

And yeah, BF4 does make it seem like BF3 was just a giant beta test all along. I'm still hoping for ARMA 3 to be super solid so I can get off this dumb train, but I don't think it's meant to be.

So it's bad to do yearly sequels ala COD, it's also apparently bad to make sequels at all apparently.

From what I've read Battlefield 4 actually has more right out of the box, (maps etc) than 3 did, but EA's only in it to charge you $150 over the course of 2 years while holding a gun to your head forcing you to buy each and every DLC.

Seems to be the consensus I guess.

HC mode is lame, spray and prey and get 4 kills, wahooo. where is the skill in that?

Hahah what, is this opposite day or something? Hardcore mode has weapon lethality, what's the problem there? The skill comes from not putting yourself in situations where you get killed easily. If you just spray and pray you give away your position and are killed more often than not. Also where the hell are 4 people sitting around in the open in hardcore in the first place? It's not like its one sided, you die as easily as you kill other people.

Yeah, you know what happens when you spray and pray in HC? You blast the walls, the ceiling, the floor, and the potted plants. Then the guy who you weren't aiming at kills you with a well aimed double tap.

I can't tell you the number of times I have laughed my ass off while watching some guy unload his magazine at me. Most of the time my rifles are set on single shot for accuracy, and I am good enough to hit someone with the 2 or 3 shots needed to kill them at close range while they spray 20 rounds at the scenery.

And the dig at my skill? Who cares. I'm not great, but I don't suck either. I get killed a lot because I am trying to actually accomplish the objective while half of the team is usually just trying for a good KD ratio.

Skill is just memorizing recoil on FOTM weapons so you can pump 8 bullets into someone to kill them instead of 2 I guess

Well what weapon you use or don't use is a choice you have ,p How good you are with the weapon you choose is your personal skill... of course there is more to this in BF3 than just being able to aim, like knowing the map, using cover properly.. using smoke correctly..

Normal simply gives you more time to do stuff before you are dead.. also normal is the only mode where med packs make any sense... in HC it's faster to just die and be revived ;p
