BF4 Open Beta in October; BF4 Premium & Battlepacks Detailed

EA and DICE unveil Battlefield 4 Premium, a bundle for their upcoming military shooter sequel offering a DLC subscription, early access, and other perks. They also announce plans for a multiplayer beta in October, saying this will be open to all platforms, with three days of early access for those who pre-order the Battlefield 4 Digital Deluxe Edition or who own either Battlefield 3 Premium, Medal of Honor Warfighter Digital Deluxe, or Medal of Honor Warfighter Limited Edition (but apparently not Battlefield 4 Premium). There is a new Paracel Storm multiplayer trailer on the Battlefield Blog along with details on premium and the beta, saying of the latter: "DICE GM Karl-Magnus Troedsson also revealed the Battlefield 4 open beta. Available for all gamers on PC, X360, and PS4, the beta will feature the Siege of Shanghai map in the classic Battlefield Conquest mode. Battlefield 3 Premium members and those who pre-order the Battlefield 4 Digital Deluxe Edition will have access to the exclusive beta early October for three days. Following that, the open beta will kick off. This will be the perfect opportunity for everyone to Prepare 4 Battle before the October 29 launch." They also offer this trailer hyping the premium bundle. Here's a rundown on all of that along with word on Battlefield 4 Battlepacks, and the "all-new layer of persistence and an exciting element of chance" they add to the game's multiplayer progression system:

COLOGNE, Germany – Aug. 20, 2013 – DICE, an Electronic Arts Inc. “Fan reaction to Battlefield 3 Premium has been nothing short of amazing. We are humbled to see more than 4 million people join in,” said Patrick Bach, Executive Producer, Battlefield 4. “With Battlefield 4 Premium we continue to roll out the red carpet, treating our fans like VIPs with a massive amount of new gameplay, exclusive new content and even more benefits at an incredible value.”

Battlefield 4 Premium membership includes five digital expansion packs** featuring new multiplayer maps and in-game content:

  • Battlefield 4 China Rising – Players fight for dominance across the vast and majestic Chinese mainland. Available December 2013.
  • Battlefield 4 Naval Strike – Experience dynamic ocean combat as the Chinese armada takes the fight to the sea. Available Spring 2014.
  • Battlefield 4 Dragon’s Teeth – The US strikes back engaging in all-out urban warfare. Available Summer 2014.
  • Battlefield 4 Final Stand – Bring the war to its epic conclusion. Available Summer 2014.

  • Priority position in server queues
  • New content every week
  • 12 bonus Battlefield 4 Battlepacks
  • Transfer Battlefield 4 Premium membership from Xbox 360 to Xbox One and PlayStation 3 to PlayStation 4

Battlefield 4 Battlepacks add an all-new layer of persistence and an exciting element of chance to the multiplayer progression system in Battlefield 4. Through the course of a player’s multiplayer career, they will receive packs containing random combinations of new camos, dog tags, knives, XP boosts, and gun attachments. In addition to what players will earn in-game through normal play, Battlefield 4 Premium members will receive the 12 bonus Battlefield 4 Battlepacks.

DICE also announced today the Battlefield 4 multiplayer beta*** will start in early October and will be exclusive for Battlefield 3 Premium owners, those that pre-ordered Battlefield 4 Digital Deluxe, and owners of Medal of Honor Warfighter Digital Deluxe and Medal of Honor Warfighter Limited Edition for three days. Following that, DICE will host an open beta for all gamers worldwide and will feature the Siege of Shanghai map on the popular Conquest mode. Players will experience the next level of all-out warfare with a new design concept called Levolution, which creates a dynamic environment that reacts to the player’s every move to ensure no two games are alike. The Battlefield 4 multiplayer beta will be available for the Xbox 360® games and entertainment system from Microsoft, the PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system and PC.

Battlefield 4 will be available October 29 for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC. Battlefield 4 will also be available for Xbox One®, the all-in-one games and entertainment system from Microsoft, and the PlayStation®4 at a later date. I'm still waiting for the next "must have" PC FPS...with the following:

1. User made maps
2. User made mods
3. User-owned and run servers
4. A dev that remembers who got them to the dance, and also remembers how to treat that gamer

If we all could just convince the masses how it could/should be..if only

Ugh, you missed the atrocity.... CLOSED BETA begins sometime in October... Same as open beta... so the 12 or whatever months they have been poaching PRE-ORDER FOR beta access to bf4 strikes again just like last time.. remember bf3, was a 3 day closed beta..... yeah.. expect the same... FUCK EA, fuck em till their dead.
Should be a fucking crime to market a closed beta access, when no details are present... how the fuck is a week or two before release a closed beta...FUCKING SCAM

I really enjoy BF3 and still play it with my mates so this is a sure buy for us. Even at $100 with Premium, that is fair value to me considering how many fun hours I get out of it. Each customer has to decide on their own what their $:happies is.

As for hacking, I don't know what you guys are complaining about. Just play on servers with active admins. When we do see a hacker, which definitely isn't nearly as often as you folks seem to be experiencing them, they just get banned within a few minutes. No anti-cheat system is perfect (least of which is Punkbuster), good admins will always be the best line of defense.

Anyway, to each their own. See ya's on the Battlefield! (or not!)

For me personally ArmA3 seems to be so much more value for the money.

Arma has come a long way over the years, but there are still a few things they need to tweak to make it feel 'right'.

- Improve movement animations/weapon switching to be more fluid
- Overhaul enemy AI
- CPU optimization for online play

Other than that, I got A3 for $32.99 during alpha, a great price for a game that I'll easily put hundreds of hours in thanks to...

Wow, open beta in October? As in, the same month the game comes out? No worries, DICE has been busy building DLC content before the game is even released, no need for an appropriately timed beta if you're just trying to milk people to begin with.

At least pretend to do some tweaking DICE, this is nothing but lip-service to those who haven't wisened up to the fact that DICE isn't the same company that developed Battlefield 1942/2, and Battlefield 4 should be named Battlefield 3.5.

Maybe I just wasn't paying attention, but what happened to the exclusive alpha access that premium players were told they'd get? Maybe I imagined it, but I remember having a Battlefield 4 alpha/beta (can't remember which) game in Origin that was greyed out and said something like 'early access premium'.

In any event, this is the first main Battlefield game (MC does'nt count) that I'm not even remotely interested in. Hopefully it finds it's way to the $5 digital bin in a year or so.

So basically you pay $49.99/59.99 for the game & then an additional $49.99 for the "Premium pack"....Over $100.00 for the full BF4 experience! WOW!
Well, it has been like this since BF1942, with the exception of Vietnam and 2142, as they were'nt successful enough for EAs taste to monetize addons.

God this series went into the crapper! I loved BF1942 & Vietnam. BF2 was slightly meh for me but still a lot of fun with the right people. But every BF game since has just been middling at best and BF3 was godawful for the lack of pretty much everything that made BF2 reasonably enjoyable and the hackers. It would've even been halfway OK if EA/DICE had stuck to their rules about what would get you banned, but they didn't. Even the worst hackers I saw only had their accounts reset, some on multiple occasions. The day I got knifed while driving a tank by a guy who was across the map was the day I uninstalled it and walked away. There a many, many better places to spend money than BF4.

Completely agree. BF3 was fun, but quickly lost that with all the hacking and blatant cheats. I'll care about buying BF4, as much as EA cared about hacks/cheats, which was not at all. Arma 3 looks worthy of consideration.

WOW,Battlefield 4 Digital Deluxe Edition !!! Rolleyes

I put a lot of hours into BF3, and did enjoy it, but the lack of commander, camo rose, and in game VOIP still stuck in my craw, but it was the lack of support against all the hackers that was the straw that eventually broke the camel's back for me. It was like they took the attitude of, "We made our millions, so deal with it or don't play".

I agree that ARMA 3 deservse more of a look and consideration.....

Are they going to let you customize your look beyond your camo and weapon yet? And, uh, totally not bringing this up just because I don't want to play as a large man of color who looks suspiciously like the All State/The Unit guy whenever I use the US assault kit. Yup. Definitely not that.

So it begins... FYI, there are PREMIUM only servers. Thus, even if you have the additional expansions purchases individually, if the server is PREMIUM enabled, you can bet your arse, you ain't getting in. Lame.

I would take the plunge with this title if EA could promise that they would have a handle on the hacking but I know that can't be promised and the rampant hacking in BF3 ruined that game.
Is there a single player campaign for BF4? I'm one of the few that actually want a sp campaign. I thought the campaign for BF3 was pretty good.

Single player is in and they've dedicated a sizable portion of resources in making it more cinematic, co-op got the axe which I actually enjoyed a little bit but on the PC it sucked because you couldn't VOIP with random people.

They haven't detailed out multiplayer game modes, conquest, rush and team deathmatch are a given but no mention of CTF or some of the other oddball game modes that were in some of the BF3 expansions.

You're doubling up on paying for DLC packs twice by preordering if you intend on getting BF4 premium, just like they did for Karkand expansion for BF3.

Once again the "beta" is a joke, nothing more than a demo preview most likely with game code that is divergent from what they plan on releasing, for stability purposes.

I enjoyed Battlefiled 3 for the most part. It is a pretty cod with bigger maps and bit more teamwork. The DLC was pretty good overall. I enjoyed all of it except the last one. I'll wait for the beta to see if Premium will be worth it. These last couple trailers just look like rocket spam fest, which is what I hated about the last DLC for BF3.
